Chapter 36

Inside a spacious office on top of a building, a man wearing a grey suit is busy reading a document on his hand. He carefully read each word so he can fully understand the content of it. Satisfied with the terms and conditions of it, he gets his fountain pen and signed the document. After that, he closed its folder and put it at the side of his table.

The man is none other than Race.

Looking at the time on his wristwatch, Race discovered that he was working for almost four hours straight without taking any small breaks. Sighing, he rested his back on his swivel chair and loosened his tie a little. He decided to take a short break first before he proceeds with his work.

He was about to call his secretary when his phone rang. Race clicked his tongue first before answering the call.

"What is it? I am busy." Race said without even saying hello to the caller.

(Well, hello to you too.)

Then Race heard his laughter on the other line.

(Let me guess. She did not attend the dinner meeting last night under the pretense of catching a cold.)

"...Leon, if you will just tease me, then I will—"

(Bro, chill. You are too impatient.)

The person who called him is none other than Leon, his former classmate and one of Francheska's closest friends.

(I think you made Cheska so surprised to the point that she does not want to see you right away.)

"If you are just calling me just to point out my mistake, then there is no need for that. I am already aware of what I had done."

(Oh, really? Then can I trust you not to do the same mistake twice?)

Race cannot help but let out a sigh. His encounter yesterday was not really a coincidence. Race was there with an intention to see Francheska. Heck. He even prepared a bouquet of flowers for that. Race planned to have a serious conversation with Francheska after her schedule that afternoon.

Race accidentally saw that Cheska was being followed by one of her stepsisters. He did not try to show up since he was aware that Cheska is no longer the girl who needs someone to protect from her stepsister. Race was about to leave when he witnessed how that vicious stepsister of Cheska pushed her. Forgetting his plan, Race ran and saved her from getting hurt.

Since it already happened, Race just played it cool and made it looked like he was 'coincidentally' there when he saw her falling. And that was not yet the end of his stupidity. He even told Francheska that they will be having a dinner meeting with her boss. Maybe he really surprised her this time so Cheska refused to meet him again last night.

When her boss told him that Cheska caught a cold, Race already knew that she was lying. But he did not expose her little lie and told her boss that he is still willing to make Cheska the new ambassador for their company. Even after the dinner meeting and until now, Race can't help but remember Cheska again.

He was aware that Cheska had already changed in a lot of ways. But Race never despite it. He is even proud to see the girl that can easily bully is now a strong and independent woman. Just like what Cheska wanted before leaving their city, she became strong and changed herself for the better.

(Race? Are you still there? Race?)

"I am still here." Race answered before sighing again.

(Oh, good. Okay, pal. Listen to me. We both know that you really like Cheska, but maybe you should not rush her. After all, she just returned and we all know what Cheska is planning to do next. Her focus is not to find a relationship but to seek justice for her mother. So you should take it slow. Okay?)

"I know. I know. There is no need for you to lecture me about it."

(As long as you understand what I am saying. I am both of your friends and I am also thinking that you two are suited to each other. But we should not rush, especially. Everything will be fine, okay?)

"Yeah." Race answered. He does not want to argue with him because if he did, then Leon will start lecturing him all over again.

(But did Cheska agreed to your proposal of making her the new ambassador of your company?)

"Yeah. She agrees to sign the contract with us. After that, Cheska will start working with us next month."

(Then you know what to do next, right? Do not worry, bro. I will cheer for you.)

"Heh. Thanks."

After exchanging a few more words with Leon, Race ended the call. Leaning his back on the chair again, he started to analyze their situation again. Yesterday is a huge failure for him and crying over spilled milk will not do anything for him. Leon is right. He should just take everything slowly.
