One Last Time

Sundays are reserved for families. For Scott, he makes it a point to spend a day with the Devlins at least once a week. He values the concept of family, direct blood or not.

He wanted to take Diana along but, now is not yet the time. In fact, he haven't told the Devlins that he already found his Luna. He is still yet to find out why Stanley warned him about meeting his mate.

"You are early today", Stanley was sitting at the porch facing the lake at the backyard of the mansion. He wasn't even looking, but hearing the footsteps, he knew it was Scott.

"I just thought you are missing me", Scott sat down on the white metal chair beside his old man, noticing that Stanley's hand tremors are getting worse. Stanley chuckled on his remark until he coughed.

"I heard you are having troubles sleeping, and eating. Have you seen your doctor?", he asked with utmost concern. He have never seen Stanley in such poor state.

"Doctors? I never thought I could hear that word from you. What changed you boy?", The old man smirked as he ruffled Scott's hair. "They always say the same thing. Only Alva can help me.", he added with a deep sigh.

Scott grabbed the old man's hand from his head and tapped with his other hand. "I'll see what I can do", he said with a smile.

"The full moon is about to shine with the stars soon. Have you prepared everything in the town?", Stanley asked as he clasp his hands together, trying to control the tremors.

"The pack has been informed as instructed", Scott answered briefly as they both gaze at the shimmering lake.

"There you are!", Priscilla joined the two as she stride gracefully. She is Stanley's wife who has red medium length curls, wears long fake feathery lashes, full make up, adores silk clothing complimenting her round torso.

"Priscilla", Scott greeted her with nod. He never called her mom as requested by Priscilla. She is too young at heart who preferred to be called by her name.

"Stanley have you told him?", she asked as she bend over her husband.

"I was about to but you interrupted", Stanley said tapping his wife's beautiful face.

"I will do the honors then", she laughed excitingly. "Scott, we'll be meeting the Woodsworths tonight. You know, apologize personally and make the marriage happen. I hope you'll join us", Priscilla placed her hands together as her face marks sincerity to pursue their union of marriage.

"Oh.. the Woodsworths?", Scott touched his lips with his fingers, as he couldn't hide his delight hearing the words marriage and Woodsworth in one sentence.

As for Diana, Sunday is just like any other day. Most Sundays, she's at work. Diana and her mother don't usually give importance on specific days to be together. They just get together when they meet in the eye.

"You're back", Diana said as she approached her mother handing the tarot card.

"In the flesh. What is this?", Alva replied as she reached for the card.

"Hendrick saw this in your belongings. I thought you don't believe in such things... where have you been?", Diana asked studying her mother's face. Alva gave the card back to Diana. At this time, Diana could only think of Emilia.

"A business trip as usual. I have no idea how did that crap ended up in my things.", Alva went to the dining room and hailed for coffee to Hendrick. Diana followed Alva sitting on the other end of the table.

"Mother, how did father died?", staring blankly as she opened up this topic for the second time this week.

"How many times do we have to go back to that sad memory, Dee?", Alva leaned back with her fingers on her temple.

"I just want to hear the truth, one last time", she gave her mother a timid smile.

"He died because of his…" before Alva could finish her sentence, Diana cut her off.

"tremendous love for us, I know. But, how in particular?", Diana could not keep her cool and was starting to lose her temper. She's tired of being kept in the dark.

"Why so feisty daughter?", Alva smirked at Diana shrugging her shoulders. "Well, we were being attacked by a wolf. He got bitten while saving us, then he succumb to his death", Diana could hardly breathe seeing how casual Alva entailed the details.

'Why didn't I noticed this before?', Diana thought.

"A wolf? I thought you said they were unreal.", Diana put an effort to look unfazed. "And how did I got my scar?",

"Did I?", Alva gave her a side eye, before sipping on her coffee. "Days Before your father died, you were wandering off the forest.. then you were attacked by a wolf. You father arrived on time to save you. You were bed ridden for days, and was sent to all healers from different towns. One day you just woke up and got all better.", Alva rested her arms on the table.

Diana refuse to believe her hunch. Her mother would never lie to her. But everytime she asks her mother about it, she give different versions of the story. Something that she missed for a long time.

"Why did you collected my blood for a couple of years?", Diana was trying to put together all the details. Her fingers turned white from gripping the table so tightly.

"It was your father's idea, to check if there's still poison in your blood… Is there anything else, my lovely daughter?", she asked as she smiled at Diana.

"That would be all, mother.", Diana smiled as she walk towards the hallway with a heavy heart. Doubts started to fill her mind.

"Before I forget, I'll have a business meeting tonight around 7 in the evening. I need you to be there", Alva stirred the coffee a couple of times.

"I have surgery in the afternoon, won't be done until 8pm", Diana firmly said. Alva never take her in her business meetings, this is the first.

"Diana. Get the surgery done at 7", Alva gritted her teeth, ordering her daughter to be on time.

"It's a heart surgery.", Diana emphasized on the word heart, only means that a delicate operation need not to be done in a hurry.

"I'll be waiting", Alva drew the line ending the conversation.

Diana blinked her eyes at her mother, before turning her back.
