Hows and Whys

DIANA POV

I left Scott without saying goodbye. Dull and downhearted, I dragged my feet as I leave him sound asleep by the fireplace. My woes increased with my eyes filled with tears all throughout the moment we spent time with each other. I made sure the kisses were deep, the hugs were warm, and the touches were burning to make each moment count. Why is it hard to leave someone you love?

I thought it's best if Scott hadn't known that my death in his hands is the only way for him to escape his curse. Given that he refuses to kill anyone close to him to save himself, I'm certain that he wouldn't take my life in exchange for his, or much more utilize my blood for his benefit. However, I don't want him to suffer like his father in his stories. And, most definitely, I can't just watch him turn to a monster.

Actually, I really have no plans of seeing Scott in the first place. Expecting he wouldn't be home, I took risks to go up to his flat with a little help from Ofir's magic just to borrow his car keys. Sensing something deadly near my home, the lythari elf warned me not to go close by my place so I decided to go to Scott's. However, destiny led our hearts to meet that I almost breakdown at the sight of his lovely smile and tender touch.

After meeting Tamara and knowing the whole truth about her identity and my past, I realized that I had to finish a few chapters of my life. One is finding out if my father is truly alive. Finding him will unravel so many truths about me. And through him, I may be able to know whether he must've found more about the Lockwoods curse and other ways how to break it off. Just like hitting two birds with one stone.

Scott was right. Filling my heart with hatred won't change a thing. Everything have already happened, and it's still great that after being raised by a heartless creature, I knew love - a love capable of giving bountiful affection. And today, I will face my fears and vow to help Scott win his battle.. because I love him.

Yes, I love Scott. Something I haven't told him. When I come back, I'll surely let him know the obvious.

Thus, I needed to leave. I thought, there are certain times that you need to do things alone. And this is one. Concerned if I'm going to survive alone in a world of supernaturals and magic, I planned to take Ofir with me, however my head was spinning that I forgot about him as soon as I'm behind the wheel of my truck that I left with Scott.

On the road lighted with yellow lamp posts, I thought of Scott. He never left my mind, as he run circles in my head. I want Scott to have a fat chance to fight fairly in life, so he can run free under the moonlight without worrying about his savage transformation, and to live happily as he deserves. This is the reason why I intend to find out other ways to break the curse. And if I'm left with no other choice, that's the only time that I will have to sacrifice my life for Scott. To be honest, I am wholeheartedly ready to give up my life for him. Though, I just want to show and prove to him that I did thought of some other alternatives to save him from the curse.

With so many hows and whys, I wanted to find out the things stuck in my head starting with the search for Daniel Woodsworth in no time. I don't want to wait for another full moon to pass. It only leads to more blood to shed. I headed my way to a trusted friend so I can borrow a few clothes and gather the things I need for my trip to the road with dead oak trees, a place where I assume my dad I saw walking in.

"Do you even know how to use this?", she said as she handed me a solid block of high-tensile aluminium alloy revolver with a box of ammos.

"Yes, I do", I said as I check the barrel of the revolver. "Thanks for the clothes too Kate, I owe you a lot", I said with a smile. Kate and I don't match in size but the red fleece jacket, black AC/DC shirt and denim jeans she lent me were comfortable to wear.

"So you're not going to tell me?", she asked with her brow lifted.

"It's hard to explain. I'll let you know when I get back", I replied as I hop in the driver's seat. I secured the revolver in the compartment of the truck. As I bid goodbye to my bestfriend, Kate suddenly went to the other side of the truck, opened the door on the passenger side and went in. "What are you doing?", I asked as she tossed a duffle bag and a back pack in the back and fastened her seatbelt.

"I don't know what's going on but it sure seems dangerous. And I can't just let you go alone. Plus, I am loss out of reasons about extending your leave of absence to Dr. Blackwell! So yea, what am I doing?? I'm coming with you!", Kate said in an angry tone.

"But Kate!!", I worriedly said.

"NO BUTS! Shut up and drive!", she exclaimed as I started the ignition with a forceful smile.

It was almost noon when Diana and Kate reached the road with dead oak trees. Creeped out with the apalling ambience, Kate could just sigh in relief that the sun is so high making the road seem less scary.

"Are you sure this is the place where you saw your father?", Kate asked as she look out of the window.

"Yes, I also had hunches in this place like a gut-feel leading my feet here", Diana replied as she slow down through the rocky road.

"How are we supposed to find him? I don't think there's any address in the forest", Kate asked.

Diana pulled out three large marbles from her pocket. "Ofir gave me these. He said it'll help me throughout my journey here in the Valley of the Falls", she said.

"Marbles? Super helpful. Like we can throw them at the faces of the monsters here", Kate sarcastically laugh in nervousness. "You think werewolves are real?", Kate asked with her face full of worry when the heard an animal howl.

Diana gave her a comforting smile so Kate won't get too scared. "It's not full moon so don't be a chicken" she answered.

A few minutes after they entered the Valley of the Falls, Diana was forced to stop having it known the terrain is too hard the drive in. "I guess we'll have to walk from here", Diana said as she unfastened her seatbelt and took the revolver and ammos from the compartment.

Kate took the duffle bag and tossed the back pack to Diana as they head out. They walked through the thick bushes in between the tall trees, hearing nothing but the sounds of nature. Walking for a few minutes now, Diana trailed the rocks as she follow the sounds of the waterfalls. Reaching the majestic beauty of water falling from the high ground, the two rested for a while as they catch their breaths after the long hike.

"Beautiful", Kate said as she splash some water on her face.

"It is", Diana replied. In a while, she noticed something moving in the nearby bushes. She stood up and placed a finger on her mouth signaling Kate to stay quiet. Kate moved behind Diana as they wait for the creature to come out from the bushes.

As they stare intently directly at the moving bushes, they gasped as the movement stopped. Then, all of a sudden a wild cat appeared and run off startled by their screams.

The two laugh it off. However, it ended soon when they heard aggressive growls and snarls behind them. When they turned around, they saw two wolves ready to pounce at them.

Diana was about to get the revolver as they back away slowly. Then she whispered to Kate, "Get ready to run". Then, in the count of three, the two ran away hand in hand without looking back, leaving their stuff behind.

The wolves followed the girls, as they sprinted off tailing Diana and Kate. Running as fast as they could, Diana and Kate fell down the hill as they tumble straight down to a group of oddly-looking men chopping and slicing their hunted gazelles.

The two held their breaths as they comfort themselves in each other's arms. One of the men stared directly at Diana and said, "I know you".
