Chasing Butterflies in Another Life

[ Mature Content ] Kang Minnie was a stubborn anti-romanticist, an eyesore for the goddess of love who was coincidentally fulfilling her punishment as the temporary watcher of the gates to the afterlife the day Minnie unexpectedly died. And so to quench her thirst for entertainment, the bored goddess, Aphrodite, decided to play with Minnie’s soul and trick her into an agreement. One that contained the promise of another chance at life, which the desperate and naive soul of Minnie immediately accepted without any further questions. Due to this mistake, instead of the mundane Earth that Minnie was expecting to return to, she found herself waking up in a completely different world where magic exists and love was the ultimate source of everything, including life. Would the anti-romantic Minnie finally find a reason to open her heart and find love? Or would her stubbornness ruin everything including her one and only last chance of getting back to Earth through completing Aphrodite's quest? __ Please support and add to library if the story is to your liking! Sweet Revenge

In the middle of a black marble table, surrounded by girls from the most beloved Section A, there spun a green bottle that would soon halt spinning and point at the totally wasted Kang Minnie, in the middle of their reunion party.

"It landed on Minnie!"

"Truth or dare, Minnie?"

"H-Huh? Is it me? Oh, it's me again," Minnie glanced at the empty bottle pointing at her and then laughed dryly.

"Truth-"

"Not truth," Virginia, her most trusted friend since the age of diapers, looked at her directly in the eye and said while shaking her head slowly, "You're drunk."

"Not truth it is," Minnie agreed to her and continued to laugh with the ladies as they decided on what kind of dare they would make her do, given this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make the uptight Minnie do something, preferably reckless.

"Let's make her kiss Jay B, we all know they're still not over each other right?"

"Great idea," the girls whispered amongst each other and giggled while the two stayed behind, Virginia trying to snap Minnie back into reality and take care of her at the same time.

"We got a dare," Chika, the last person to be chosen before her, said while signaling the other girls to spread the news to the other table where the boys were at.

"We dare you… to kiss your ex for five seconds, Minnie," Chika added with a giddy smile on her face, followed by loud cheering from the girl and boy's table, to which Minnie immediately answered with another shot of tequila as a sign of rejection.

But before the shot glass could even reach Minnie's lips, Virginia's hands were quick to cover her mouth and push the tequila back to the table as aggressively as she could, saying, "That's enough drinks for today, Minnie. Get up, let's go home."

"Virginia's right! You've already maxed on your passes, Minnie. It's just a kiss!"

"What? That's not what I meant-" Virginia tried to defend her words but the other girls were not listening.

"I have to kiss my ex? That guy?" Minnie shot her eyes at the other table while wondering to herself if she should do it.

"That a-hole," Minnie muttered under her breath while sharing eye contact with the guy who was just drinking his alcohol comfortably while being pressured by his overly excited friends to play along with their dare.

"You're gonna love this…" Minnie's attention to him was cut when she overheard her seatmates gossiping at the men's table about how they adored their relationship back in high school and how they could still have a chance if she would just go for it.

"This could be an opportunity… for me," Minnie sluggishly muttered while getting out of Virginia's hold, trying to sober herself up if she wanted to do this right.

"Are you seeing what I'm seeing?! She's going to do it!" a friend shouted.

"Who wants to see Minnie, mackin 'on Jay B??" The active crowd cheered as Minnie strode through the black marble floor with trembling feet and her heart on her sleeves.

"It's just a kiss. It's just a dare. If this doesn't go with my plan, then it's no big deal. But if it does, then we'll have ourselves a deal," Minnie gritted her teeth secretly and grabbed a glass of wine from the boy's table, playing with it as she came closer to approaching Jay B's seat.

"Gosh, why is he staring?" Minnie rolled her eyes secretly at the person in front of her before flashing a smile and acting as if she just suddenly lost balance.

Jay B was then quick enough to grab her on the waist to save her from the fall, "Now that's a romantic pose," Minnie flashed a charming smile to Jay B before sipping all the contents of the glass she was holding and putting it down on the table before facing Jay B properly.

"Don't you have a girlfriend?" Minnie said teasingly while tracing the collars of his shirt.

"Because the last time I remembered, she was fooling around with my neighbors," Minnie said with a playful smile before clenching her hands and leaning in for a hot kiss with Jay B that sent the whole place in butterflies and loud exclamations.

"What did I tell you?! WHAT DID I TELL YOU?! They still have feelings for each other!"

"Damn right! Our high school sweethearts are back!"

"Mmhm," Minnie moaned and pushed Jay B away softly, "I think five seconds are done," she laughed and tried to hide her face, conscious of what she had just done and their now controversial position in the spotlight.

"Is it?" Jay B smiled with her, softly tracing the skin on her face before giving her another soft kiss, "I don't have a girlfriend," he added in between which just made Minnie even more flustered by the situation.

"Did you hear that folks!? Jay B is free and so is Minnie!! We got ourselves a couple here! Cheers!!"

"T-That's good then," Minnie then finally said as they were both catching their breath, still hugging each other.

"Now get a room lovebirds, we ain't got all night here," Jay B's buddy said and gave him a thumbs-up before leaving with the girls to get more drinks from the bar.

"Room 943, left side on the ninth floor," Jay B whispered to Minnie before moving away to face her. They were now the only ones left in the area besides their totally wasted classmates who were already asleep on the couch.

"That's my room and here's the key," he added and handed Minnie a black key card of the hotel above the bar.

"You're not coming with me?" Minnie pouted and stared at the card with confusion. "Why?"

"I just need to finish a couple of deals before I go back. Promise it won't take long. You can even stay here with your friends if you want," Jay B said with mellow eyes, "I missed you."

"That's okay, I can wait," Minnie said and flashed him the best smile she could muster at the moment as she found herself sobering up from her craziness.

"This is it. His room must be reeking with evidence. I can already almost taste it. I just need to get there first and do my business. This is perfect," Minnie thought to herself.

"Good, I'll see you later then?" Jay B said and handed the black card to Minnie, even leaving a reassuring peck on her forehead before standing up and disappearing out of Minnie's sight almost immediately.

"Later," Minnie whispered as a final goodbye while caressing the prestigious black card between her hands, "That was so stupid. What reckless plan was that Minnie?! Now I need to sober up more before proceeding with the investigation- I mean flinging with him tonight," her thoughts added which just made Minnie's blood flow go all up to her head.

"Is he still a good kisser? Or are you the better one now?" Virginia suddenly popped beside Minnie, startling the heck out of her which almost sent the other girl to the floor from the shock.

"What the hell Virgie! I almost had a heart attack! What are you doing here?!"

"Umm, helping you?" Virginia said as if it were just common sense, to which Minnie easily agreed with.

"Hmm, I guess I'm not the only one who's doing this tonight," Minnie shrugged and took the glass of water that Virginia was holding to help sober her up.

"So my question is, what the heck just happened back there?"

"Omf, you would not believe what that guy just gave me," Minnie almost spit the water out of excitement as she showed her best friend the black card from her hands.

"A black ca- IS THAT FOR HIS ROOM??"

"Yes shhh!"

"Oh my god, how did you pull that off!? You sneaky sneaky little witch, I thought you were going to bite him nasty?! What happened?!"

"I couldn't. I had to be smart about this or else I'll just cripple the mission."

"Yeah right, you and your life-long mission of making his life miserable. I just wish you were half as passionate about other things in your life then this. Revenge is just not everything, you know?"

"But for me it is. Just wait and see, he'll be in jail soon enough," Minnie smirked as the thought of her ex rotting in hell popped out of her mind again, to which Virginia only shook her head, like what she always does.

"So when are you meeting up there?"

"Actually, I just need to sober up, then I can go ahead and wait for him there. I doubt he'll be there anytime before twelve, we'll just see."

"And? What do you need me to do?"

"I need you to run data on the stuff I'll be sending tonight. I want him in handcuffs as soon as possible," Minnie smiled while growing another horn on her beautiful forehead just by thinking about it.

"Promise me you won't take long?" Minnie said after snapping out of it and facing Virginia seriously.

"Promise," Virginia said and noticed Minnie put the empty glass of water in her hand as she excitedly ran off to the elevator.

"That reckless girl," Virginia shook her head with a proud smile before heading out of the party to aid her best friend in the highlight of her ever-miserable life.

A carefully cooked sweet revenge.
