Chapter 31: Shocked? I Can Transform
The shadows behind him surged, covering Lu Li like armor, forming a three to four-meter-tall shadow giant. Shadow energy roiled in his hand, manifesting a long spear as thick as a pillar. With a mighty leap, he plunged it into the dragon's body.
With a roar, the dragon whipped its body, flinging Lu Li away. However, the shadow spear remained lodged in its flesh. At Lu Li's command, thorns erupted from the spear, tightening around the dragon. This single attack consumed a quarter of Lu Li's shadow energy. Although the dragon's appearance brought dark clouds and rain, which blocked out the sun and allowed his energy to recover quickly, the shadow energy was still insufficient for a prolonged fight.
In its fury, the dragon caused the waters of the Yixing River to surge, submerging most of Lu Li's shadow giant. Zhou Chu and the Shadow Assassin were completely swallowed by the water, disappearing from sight. Lu Li sprinted through the water, his body appearing full of holes that created an illusionary effect as he moved. The wind passing through these holes produced a wailing sound.
The dragon turned, its massive maw dripping with black saliva, lunging towards Lu Li. As it spat a glob of saliva, Lu Li dodged to the side. The dragon's jaws snapped shut just as a large mass of shadows separated from the shadow giant, transforming into a spiky ball that thrust itself into the dragon's mouth. Seizing the moment, Lu Li dove into the water. Just then, Zhou Chu burst out from beneath the surface, climbing onto the dragon.
"Catch this!" Lu Li called out, conjuring a shadow spear and hurling it towards Zhou Chu, who grabbed it mid-air. With a swift motion, he plunged it into the dragon's body.
The dragon, shaking its head in anger, coated the spiky shadow ball with saliva and spat it far away. Lu Li tried to dissipate the shadow but found it difficult due to interference. This dragon was indeed intelligent, making it tough for Lu Li to continue without his shadow.
At that moment, a purple-red torrent surged in, and Lilith swam up beside Lu Li, silently directing dozens of massive purple-red snakes towards the dragon.
"The snakes are on our side!" Lu Li shouted to Zhou Chu as he exchanged a glance with Lilith and dove back into the water, following the shadow's trail.
Zhou Chu glanced at Lilith's half-human, half-snake form, nodded, and gripped the shadow spear tighter, climbing towards the dragon's head.
The purple-red snakes bit down on the dragon, sucking its life force and growing larger. The dragon roared, whipping its tail to smash several snakes into pulp, but the others continued their relentless attack, tearing at the dragon's flesh.
The dragon roared in pain, diving into the water. Zhou Chu, sensing danger, drove the shadow spear deeper into the dragon's flesh and clung on tightly.
As the dragon swam frantically, the water's force tore at the snakes and Zhou Chu. Some snakes lost their grip, while others were knocked unconscious by the current. Zhou Chu, holding his breath, clung to the spear until the dragon's speed slowed and it reached the riverbed. There, the dragon's tail lashed out at Zhou Chu.
Feeling his breath running out, Zhou Chu considered surfacing for air but was struck by the tail, vomiting blood. To his surprise, the dragon's disgusting yellowish blood contained air. He bit into the dragon again, drinking its blood for oxygen.
With veins bulging, Zhou Chu forced the shadow spear into two, using both halves to climb the dragon like a mountain. Drinking the dragon's blood to stay alive, he fought on.
The dragon thrashed in madness, but a large shadow suddenly fell from above, wrapping around its tail. Lu Li, having freed his shadow, had returned, using shadow energy to create thorny bindings that anchored the dragon to the riverbed.
Lilith, controlling the remaining purple-red snakes, directed them to attack the dragon relentlessly. The dragon charged at Lu Li, who transformed his shadow giant into a seven to eight-meter-tall behemoth, colliding with the dragon head-on.
The impact scattered the shadow giant, but Lu Li's shadow energy, mixed with his greed, had increased its size. Zhou Chu, taking advantage of the dragon's distraction, rammed the broken spear into its eye, driving it in with a powerful kick.
Clutching the dragon's horn, Zhou Chu was thrown off as the dragon crashed into the riverbank. Zhou Chu landed hard, coughing up blood, but the dragon was worse off. Its eye gouged out, its horn broken, it glared at Zhou Chu and the emerging shadow giant with rage.
"You pathetic mortals! I am a mighty dragon, your god! You can't defeat me!" the dragon roared, its body oozing yellowish blood that formed a protective membrane over its wounds.
