33. Third Party

Suddenly, a groan.

It was faint, barely audible, but Ethan's heart leaped at the sound. He leaned closer, his eyes wide with hope. "Adrian?"

Another groan, followed by a weak cough.

Adrian's eyes fluttered open, unfocused and hazy.

His mind was sluggish, trying to catch up with what had happened. 

But now, as his vision slowly focused, he saw a familiar face hovering above him.

"E-Ethan…" His voice was hoarse, barely audible. But the relief in his heart surged as he whispered his husband's name.

Ethan, who had been holding his breath in panic, exhaled shakily, his trembling hands cradling Adrian's face. "I'm here, Adrian. I'm right here," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion.
