Vera and Mike were so tired of digging that they had gone to bed immediately after dinner. They had spent a little chatting but soon fell asleep in the midst of their conversation.
When Vera's phone rang, they were both startled.
«It's the agency,» she said, turning under the cover. She reached out to the bedside table and touched around before finding the device. She didn't need to read, to know who could be so bothersome.
«Now I understand why you turned it off,» Mike murmured, covering his ears with his hands.
They had even forgotten the lights on.
They truly needed some good rest.
«Hello?» Vera said, finally answering.
«How is the mission going? Are you done?» asked the General.
«Aren't there policies at the agency about the calls? It's late, General.»
«It's barely nine. Now, report.»
«We're almost done. There's one more grave to take care of and three to check, but I highly doubt those three were infected.»
