Do you belive in God?

As such, I went back to the hospital room and threw the doctor and the girl an embarassed look. The police officer followed me closely and explained why I had ran away to the doctor. The girl let aout a giggle when she heared it.

"Do I really look like a kidnapper to you."said the doctor, waveing his black hair appart.

"Not really..."

And he really didn't. If not for his height, he would be mistaken for a child. The police officer sat next to me and put me trough a series of basic questions, like 'Where did the explosion come for?' or 'Where were your parents at that time?'. For most of them I knew the answer, but when we got deeper into the past I realized that my memory was blurry. For example when he asked me if my parents had made someone angry, I failled to remember anything past a few weeks. Even then, the memories were foggy.

"Kusher! Kusher! I asked if you remember this elephant plushie."

I stared blankly at the pink elephant, not bigger than my twelve year old palm. A small click was heared in my head and a flood of memories took my feeble mind by surprise. Unfortunately, they were only regarding Mr Chipmunks, the small plush animal. He kind of went everywhere I was, or better said, I took him with me.

"Yes, I think it was a gift from my parents at an early age."

"Regarding it, it seems that it remained unharmed by the explosion so we thought that we should take it to the lab."

"No!"

The answer came a bit louder and harsher than I expected. Followed by a awkward silence, the officer left after a few plesantries with the doctor. After taking a few medicines, I went to sleep and my mind instantly relaxed.

A ineffable darkness surrounded my scrawny body. Where am I? Realizing that I was speaking my thought, I quickly shut my mouth. Even then I could hear my words echoing through the liquid darkness. I gave up on trying to find an explication to the inexplicable event and changed the scope of my mind to the strange lucidity that I had in this dream.

Suddenly, multiple arms ,tantacles and limbs streched out of the darkness. I didn't try running away from them, because my mind didn't seem to perceive them. I totally could see them but it was as if the information failed to reach my brain. In contrast to the straching limbs, a faraway star emited a warm, yet cold light and faint murmurs. I failled to comprehend what I was seeing, but the darkness seemed to give me more comfort, so without realizing I dived towards the dark wave of limbs. I breathed in relief as I left the musmurs and the light behind. I was alone in the darkness again, but that thought only made me fell at ease.

As I woke up, the memories of the dream as quickly as butter on a hot pan. I yawned and a voice startled me.

"Good morning!"

I looked at my right, half expecting the girl to be there, but surprisingly it was an old couple. Of course it was rude to call the couple old, they were in their fortys, but their clothes were briming with elegance, seemingly unfit for the twenty first century. That trait made them look way older than they actualy were. The girl peeked from behind them saying a soft 'good morning'.

"I see you already met our daughter, Tamara Verlice."

"She's your daughter?"my jaw dropped looking at the stark contrast between their clothes. Tamara had old and strained clothes, and the couple looked like they were from the noble era.

"Actualy, our foster daughter. We actually adopted her two days ago after her family had an accident. You see, we are pretty old so we are unable to make a child anymore. Our only child died a few years ago so we thought that adopting would be a good idea."

"You seem pretty young!"I said trying to hide the bitter taste in my mouth. I realized that I was basicaly an orphan. Even thought I don't really remember my parents, I know deep in my heart that I miss them more than anything else...

"Yes, we are basically a thousand years old!"said mister Verlice teasingly.

Lost in thought, I waved away his joke and thought more in depth of the gravity of the situation.'Don't I have a sister? Why has the doctor only told me about my parents.'

As the Verlice couple left the room together with their daughter, an old man with a long dark robe and a warm smile entered the room. He exuded a loving aura and the doctor hurriedly followed him and made the presentation.

"Alec, this presentable gentelman is Father Jozef. He came here to lodge an application to adopt you, but he would like to see you first."

I felt slightly relived that I already had someone trying to adopt me.'It seems like I have to make a good impression. He looks like the kind of man I would call Father easily.'

"Alec Kusher, you look slightly different than what they told me."

"What do you mean Father ?"

A slightly confused expresion could be seen on my face. I looked different? I quickly checked the mirror and saw that they were indeed right. I remember having ashen blonde hair and green eyes, but now I had a light ashen brown hair and my eyes were a dark green. The difference wasn't that striking, but it was still there.

"Your hair is lighter and your eyes are slighlty green. Those weren't like that before, weren't they?"

Before I could speak and tell them that it was the opposite, the doctor interupted me.'Fair enough, I already did it twice.'

"We know that his shades were supposed to be darker, but we suspect that it might be the effect of the high heat that he was exposed to."

I wanted to complain, but the words seemed to remain stuck into my throat. Why won't I say it? Wait... Was my hair colour really blonde and were my eyes really green. When did I come up with such a stupid idea...I always had brown hair and brown eyes. It must have been thanks to that damned explosion.

"I don't know when did my hair and eye color change."

"It doesn't really matter any way boy, you are just more exotic for the girls."The old priest winked.

'Is he really a priest?!' Even if I was thinking this I just felt like he became more and more likeable. The tense atmosphere around us disipated and I felf a relief that didn't last long.

"I have one last question, son. Do you belive in God?"
