First Breakfast

The loud blaring of the horn jolted Riley from her drool induced stupor. "Holy Carp Monkeys!" She face planted right on the floor.

"It is time for Breakfast." said the intercom.

Riley groaned "Can I skip breakfast and just go back to bed instead?" she asked the camera.

She did not receive a shock but the door opened with a hiss nonetheless. Riley's shoulders drooped and she stared longingly at her bed. This time she did receive a small shock and with that she trudged her way to Breakfast. Wait a minute...Breakfast? How long was I asleep? Riley walked out of the room and found Tanesha.

"Hey! Tanesha!" Riley said running quickly to her. Riley received a shock.

"No running in the facility." the intercom stated.

Riley growled and walked briskly.

"You done with your coma I see." Tanesha said as they walked into the cafeteria.

"I feel like I haven't slept in a year." said Riley.

Tanesha chuckled and assessed her slowly, "You do know that no one has ever found their powers in a day before. I'm surprised they aren't studying you more." Both girls got in line for food.

"The fact that people are stuck in that Hell hole for more than a day is what disgusts me." Riley got a shock.

"Careful, if you speak ill of them you just get unnecessary punishment. Only say something that angers them when it is necessary." Tanesha hissed.

"And here I thought I was giving sound advice." Tanesha sighed and got her food when they got to the front.

Riley picked up her tray and found a bowl of black balls.

"Uhh what is this?" Riley asked

"Caviar. Very salty and I prefer it with crackers to be honest." she said and she grabbed a box of crackers and a bottle of water. Riley followed her lead and did the same thing.

"I don't think I've ever had caviar before." Riley said.

"Oh get used to it, you eat it for breakfast everyday. Adah told me we are put on a peskitarian diet according to the database. It is supposedly good for us or something. June cried when she realized she wasn't gonna have bacon anymore." Tanesha said with a smirk as they walked up to the table with Lisa already sitting there.

"Honestly, I just miss ice cream." said Lisa.

Riley was in the middle of sitting down when she froze. "Wait….no ice cream?"

"I know right? I get they are a cruel government organization but taking away ice cream is a special kind of mean." Lisa hissed.

"I'm still right." Lisa tugged on her collar.

Riley looked at Tanesha "What food do you miss."

Tanesha shrugged her shoulders, "Nothing."

Riley narrowed her eyes, "Surely you miss something."

"I miss fresh air. I could care less about food."

"I miss pasta. I'm a walking Italian stereotype." Adah plunked down and looked down at the caviar.

"Specifically I miss shrimp scampi with butter cream sauce. Right. Now." Said Adah.

June  came from behind the group and slapped her plate down. "French Fries are life and I miss my potatoes. The closest they give us to real carbs is rice or saltine crackers."

"I'm Irish man, telling us we can't have potatoes is a sin worthy of burning in Hell."

Both girls tugged on their shock collar.

"Uh...where is Cyndi?" asked Riley.

All the girls looked at her with an Are you stupid expression.

Riley realized they practically projected that thought to her.

"Dude, she is in her power assessment. Most people take at least a week. Until you, Tanesha had the fastest time of 4 days." Tanesha spread her caviar on a saltine cracker and took a bite.

"Fun fact, most under a week cases went through a serious trauma before the change. Tanesha-" Tanesha shoved a cracker in Adah's face without hesitating.

"Riley doesn't have a trauma. She is spunky and too observant for her own good."

Riley looked at Tanesha, "What makes you think I don't have a trauma?"

"Because you miss unimportant things."

The whole group went silent and ate their food.

"You know, not all trauma makes you like that." Riley said as she finished her meal.

"Trauma isn't always physical you know." Riley walked away from the group to go to class.

Look I don't know what you went through but I do know that I don't miss having a psychiatrist that's for sure. Thought Riley as she went to the trash can.

Foster care. I really don't like to talk about it...er or think about it. Tanesha responded.

Good luck in class. I hope you and Lisa can pull it off. After dinner can you please connect us all telepathically? That's when everyone chills in their room anyways. Tanesha asked

Sounds like a plan to me. I guess I'll let your mind go? I'm still trying to figure out how it works....Practice makes perfect I guess.

Riley zoned back into reality and walked her way over to Lisa.

"So when do we have class?" she asked.

"That isn't until after lunch. After breakfast is Anatomy, Psychology, Mythology, and History." said Lisa.

"Uh...Why?" asked Riley. To her it seemed like a strange lineup.

"Anatomy to understand our new bodies and how different we are from humans. Psychology to understand our new minds and do weird psychological tests on us but call it a test. Mythology, to see if we display any defining similarities to monsters all over the world. History to see if we existed before the first recorded case. Most of it is just us sitting at a desk all day reading computer material they wrote for us." responded Lisa.

"It honestly sounds kind of cool," said Riley. Lisa shrugged.

"It gets old fast. Anyways, I'll see you in class." Lisa rolled away to her separate ward.

It must be isolating being separated from everyone else. Riley thought.

I got over it.
