“Ruby, you have to stop the car and take this call,” Meshaye said.
“Why? I can talk on the phone later,” Ruby replied.
“You have to stop now. I think this is important,” Meshaye insisted.
Ruby relented. She turned off the road and parked, before taking the phone from Meshaye. “Hello, who is this?” she asked.
“Hello Ruby,” said a man in a deep, smooth voice. “Why don't you come to the coffee shop next to the German bakery? I have an offer which is ten times better than whatever Mr. Sanders is offering you.”
Ruby was completely confused. “Who is this?” she asked, but the stranger had rung off already.
What was she going to do now? Ruby wondered. Who was this person and how did he know about her record deal? It sounded all wrong.
“What’s going on, Ruby?” Meshaye asked in concern. "This man talked about making you some kind of offer. What is he offering?”
