Planta's strategy of pretending to die to surprise Merlinus had worked more than once. It seemed the arch wizard was so damn arrogant and confident on his supreme magic that the thought of someone surviving from getting eaten by a black hole was never in his mind.
And well, it was quite normal too, not many people would ever guess anyone could survive that to begin with, but Planta worked and played around with her trump cards, using them one after another to rapidly gain an advantage over her foe when they least expected it.
