Chapter 35

“You know what?” Chris said.

“What?” Mickey said.

“We need bikes too.”

“Why?”

“So we can go riding with Ted on the weekends. It’s good exercise, and there are plenty of streets in Avondale and Riverside for riding. For that matter, we could ride across the bridge to Ortega.”

“We can’t get three bikes in my SUV, babe. At least, not without a bike rack.”

“I’m not talking about tonight, Mick. You and I can go to a bicycle shop one day and buy bikes there or come back here to Walmart, for that matter. They also have bike racks that mount on your trailer hitch.”

“Okay, I’m convinced,” Mickey said. “Put it on the ‘to-do’ list.”

“You bet I will.”

IT WAS A SUNDAY afternoon, and Ted had, once again, been invited to Anthony’s house to use the pool. This time, both Chris and Mickey were able to accompany him. Mickey was planning to use the pool and was wearing Speedos under his shorts, but Chris, as usual, had no intention of swimming.
