Chapter 16: The Departure

Victor emerged from the depths of the ancient mansion, his senses alert to any sign of danger. The encounter with Lord Draven had been intense, but now that the immediate threat was dealt with, he had other matters to attend to.

As he made his way back through the deserted streets of Stonebridge, Victor's mind raced with thoughts of what he had discovered. The existence of only three vampire kings in the world was a revelation, and it confirmed the magnitude of the threat he faced.

But Victor was not one to be deterred by such challenges. He had faced down monsters far worse than Draven, and he would not rest until he had rid Stonebridge of its darkness once and for all.

As he reached the edge of town, Victor paused, taking one last look back at the looming silhouette of the mansion against the night sky. He knew that his battle here was far from over, but for now, he had other responsibilities to attend to.

Turning away from the town, Victor set off into the night, his footsteps silent on the forest floor. He had barely gone a mile when he heard the sound of approaching footsteps behind him. Whirling around, he was prepared for another attack, but instead, he found himself face to face with the vampire Lord Draven, his form restored and his demeanor once again composed.

"Impressive," Draven remarked, his voice cool and detached. "You may have defeated me this time, but know that I will not forget."

Victor met Draven's gaze evenly, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. "I will not hesitate to strike you down again if you threaten this town."

Draven inclined his head in acknowledgment. "I understand. But know this, half-blood: there are forces at work here far beyond your comprehension. You would do well to tread carefully."

With that, Draven turned and disappeared into the darkness, leaving Victor alone once more. He watched the vampire's retreating form with a sense of unease, knowing that their paths would cross again in the future.

But for now, Victor had other concerns. As he continued on his journey, he came across a scene of chaos—a carriage surrounded by monstrous creatures, their claws and fangs glinting in the moonlight.

Without hesitation, Victor sprang into action, his blade flashing as he cut through the creatures with lethal precision. The driver, a young man with fear in his eyes, thanked Victor profusely as he helped him to safety.

"Thank you, sir," the driver stammered, his voice trembling with gratitude. "I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't come along."

Victor nodded, his expression impassive. "Be more cautious in the future. The night holds many dangers, especially for those who travel alone."

With that, Victor resumed his journey, leaving the driver to make his way to safety. As he disappeared into the darkness, Victor knew that his path was clear. The road ahead would be fraught with peril, but he would face it head-on, armed with the knowledge that he alone stood between the innocent and the darkness that threatened to consume them.
