The death forest

The wind swept in long gales over a towering mountain. A group of six intrepid individuals stood at the high ridge, their eyes fixed upon the distant forest, gazing over the vast expanse of the large forest. Among them, a man held a telescope-like device to his eye, straining to discern the secrets hidden within the depths of the colossal trees.

"Did you find anything? Just what is happening out there?" asked the man beside him as another tremor passed below their feet.

The man with the telescope lowered the device, a hint of frustration in his eyes. "No idea. The forest is just too vast, and the trees are too big to see through. It's impossible to see what's happening on its ground below... all I can see is shaking trees every now and then."

"Shall we venture forth ourselves, then?" The woman standing beside him proposed as she came forward.

She had raven-black hair and captivating emerald eyes, along with her curved figure, they gave her a quite beautiful appearance. While her striking red robe and crystal-adorned magic staff served her with an aura of palpable power. But hearing her arrogant statement, the leader of the group raised a cautionary eyebrow. "Do you have a death wish?" He said as if heard something ridiculous. "Your artifact may possess great might, but the Death Forest is no place to tread lightly," he said as he pointed over the ridge.

Following his finger, the women gazed down the ridge, where the forest's immense canopy seemed to stretch into infinity just a few inches below their feet, and they were standing on the mountain here. 'Just how big those trees are?' A thought coursed through her mind, before see can retract her gaze though, a sudden tremor passed through those giant trees once more.

Just watching those trees tremble sent shivers down her spine. She instinctively took a step back, momentarily daunted by her own audacity moments ago.

"Its reputation precedes it," chimed in the elderly member of their group. He wore light armor, with a dark robe enveloping his body; his wrinkled face gave away his elderly age. While his artificial eyes served as a testament to his thrilling adventure in his youth, but it was the the remaining eye that caught everyones attention, it displayed a distant look as if reliving a memory.

"The Death Forest earned its name for a reason," he said. "Many a foolhardy mages had met their end there in pursuit of adventure."

One of the other members, armed with a gleaming spear, interjected, "If these trees really are that huge, then what could cause such colossal trees to shake so violently?"

The old man looked at him with a frown, as if just asked a foolish question, but in the end, he still answered, "The Death Forest still hasn't been explored completely. It has many mysterious places, many secrets hidden within it's marrow. Some lurking inside... some buried into the depth of its ground."

After glancing at everyone one by one, he subtly added, "It is the residence of the most horrifying creatures. Maybe creatures of myths, too, reside there..." his words made everyone gulp down the saliva, causing a fear to even look toward the daunting forest again.

The leader nodded in agreement and added, "We are only here to observe the borders of the forest. Let's not do anything unnecessary and simply report the anomaly we had just witnessed." Then, he instructed the group of their return, and everyone started preparing for their departure.

Not too far from those departing adventurers, deep within the Death Forest, an awe-inspiring spectacle unfolded. Towering pillars of wood and bark dominated the surroundings, even the smallest of them exceeding thirty feet in height, their trunks bore a width of a small house. Each supporting a labyrinth of colossal branches as they jutted outwards like hungry snakes, interweaving in a ceaseless contest for space with branches of other trees, forming an intricate web of greenery that obscured the sky completely.

Beneath this wooden dome, the forest's floor lay cloaked in perpetual twilight. Sunlight, like golden threads, trickled down through openings within the web of leaves and branches above, casting light shadows upon the forest floor, illuminating the thick roots that spawned over the forest floor like sinuous tendrils.

Then, as if Nature herself had summoned it, a thunderous shockwave erupted from the distance once more. The force coursed through the colossal trunks, setting even the mightiest of trees trembling for a moment, causing a rain of leaves and small branches from the hold of the towering trees, just for the silence to claim its dominion again.

In the wake of the previous shockwave, the once-leafy branches had been stripped bare, and signs of a fierce struggle painted the forest's interior completely. The neighboring trees displayed deep wounds, their trunks scarred and disfigured, blasted by the act of pure violence.

At the heart of this tumultuous battleground lay a colossal serpentine beast, sprawled lifeless on the ground, its dark red blood mingling with the wet and muddy earth.

Resting atop the creature, the hilt of a gleaming sword was visible, its blade buried deep within the monster's head. The sword's presence told the tale of a fierce confrontation, an encounter of immense proportions amid the towering sentinels of the Death Forest.

With sudden movements, a hand reached toward to reclaim it. With deliberate grace, the hand drew out the blade, revealing the entire weapon now dripping a deep, visceral red of its prey's blood. A river of the serpent's lifeblood streamed from its edges.

The man held the sword with a calm resolve, impassive to the macabre spectacle that lay before him. With fluid and practiced motion, the blade was sheathed, a powerful symbol of victory over the towering behemoth that now lay dead beneath his feet.

He stood there, on top of the fallen beast, one hand resting on the hilt of his now-sheathed sword, his long crimson hair fluttering in the passing wind like a cascade of red flames. His light crystal-red eyes watched the surroundings as if looking for his next prey.

Draped in tattered garments bearing the scars of countless clashes, his obsidian cloak drenched in the crimson testament of a fierce struggle, Orion stood triumphant.

In his hand, he cradled the pulsating heart of the serpentine foe he had vanquished, its vitality still pulsating amid a haunting red glow. Surveying the aftermath with an aura of stoic indifference, Orion exuded the essence of a victorious warrior, a victory marked by the spoils of his conquest.
