chapter 10: Rescue in Nakuri City

It had been a few weeks since Yami had taken his place as the 4th Seat of the 10th Division. The transition had been smooth, and he found himself adapting quickly to the division's rhythm. The tasks assigned to him were varied, ranging from leading patrols to overseeing training exercises for the lower-seated officers. Yami handled these responsibilities with ease, his calm demeanor and precise decision-making earning him the respect of his peers.

Despite his growing involvement in the division's affairs, Yami never neglected his personal training. Each night, after the division had settled into its routine, Yami would retreat to a secluded area where he could train in secret. He had increased the gravity on his Kido seal, pushing his body to its limits. The strain was immense, but Yami welcomed it. The constant pressure made his movements more deliberate, his strikes more powerful, and his control over his spiritual energy more refined.

During these sessions, Yami would practice his swordsmanship, refining the techniques he had learned over the years. His swings were precise, each one cutting through the air with deadly accuracy. He also spent time honing his Kido, focusing on controlling the immense spiritual power within him. The seal made it difficult, but that was the point. Yami was determined to master his abilities, to become stronger than he ever was before.

Working in the 10th Division had been a surprisingly enjoyable experience for Yami. The camaraderie among the officers was genuine, and despite the occasional tensions, there was a strong sense of unity within the division. Yami appreciated the structure and discipline that the division provided, and he found satisfaction in fulfilling his duties.

One afternoon, Yami was in his office, organizing mission reports. The room was quiet, the only sound being the rustle of paper as he reviewed the latest patrol logs. He had sent a squad out to patrol the outskirts of Naruki City earlier that day, and he was awaiting their report. As he worked, his mind briefly wandered to his training sessions, contemplating the next level of difficulty he could add to his Kido seal.

His thoughts were interrupted by a sudden knock at the door. Before he could respond, the door swung open, and the 8th Seat, Reika Takahashi, hurried in, her face pale with worry.

"Yami-san!" she exclaimed, her voice tinged with urgency. "The squad you sent to Naruki City—they've been attacked by Hollows!"

Yami's expression hardened as he set down the report he was holding. "How many?" he asked, his voice calm but with an edge of seriousness.

Reika shook her head, her eyes wide with fear. "I don't know the exact number, but the reports say there's a particularly strong one among them. They've already taken down several of our men…"

Before she could finish, Yami was already moving. He grabbed his Zanpakutō, the familiar weight of the blade reassuring in his hand, and disappeared from the office in a blur of movement, using Shunpo to head directly toward Naruki City.

The outskirts of Naruki City were usually peaceful, but today, the scene was one of carnage. The once serene landscape was now stained with blood, the bodies of Shinigami scattered across the ground. Standing amidst the carnage was a Hollow unlike any Yami had ever seen.

The Hollow's body was elongated and covered in segmented armor-like plates, emphasizing its skeletal structure. Its face was partially masked with a bone helmet that had long, sharp horns, giving it a fearsome appearance. The Hollow's hands and feet were blackened and clawed, adding to its menacing presence. On its back were cape-like appendages, resembling wings, that fluttered slightly as it moved. The Hollow's aura was terrifying, an oppressive weight that bore down on the few surviving Shinigami who stood trembling before it.

The Hollow lifted its bloodied hand and let out a deep, guttural laugh that echoed through the air. "Pathetic Shinigami," it sneered, its voice dripping with malice. "I'll savor each and every one of you."

The surviving Shinigami flinched at the Hollow's words, their fear palpable. They had fought bravely, but the Hollow's power was overwhelming. Each of them bore wounds from the battle, their bodies bruised and battered from the relentless onslaught. The sight of their fallen comrades only added to their despair.

One of the Shinigami, a young man named Saito, struggled to his feet, his hand clutching the hilt of his Zanpakutō tightly. His face was pale, his breaths ragged, but there was a spark of defiance in his eyes. "We won't let you… take us without a fight!" he shouted, though his voice trembled with fear.

The Hollow's eyes narrowed, a twisted grin spreading across its face. "Oh? You still have some fight left in you? Good… I enjoy it when my prey struggles."

Without warning, the Hollow disappeared, moving with a speed that was almost impossible to track. The Shinigami barely had time to react before the Hollow reappeared in front of Saito, its claws raised to strike.

But before the Hollow's attack could land, there was a sudden burst of wind, and Yami appeared between the Hollow and Saito. With a single, swift movement, Yami punched the Hollow, sending it crashing through the trees and deep into the forest.

The surviving Shinigami stared in shock, their eyes wide with disbelief as they realized what had just happened. Saito, who had been bracing himself for death, looked up at Yami with a mixture of awe and relief. "Y-Yami-san…"

Yami glanced around at the carnage, his eyes briefly lingering on the bodies of the fallen Shinigami. A sigh escaped his lips, a quiet sound of regret for the lives lost. He then turned his attention to the surviving Shinigami, his expression softening slightly.

"You've done well," Yami said, his voice calm and reassuring. "Rest now. Tend to your injuries and gather the bodies of the fallen. Return to the 10th Division and report to Captain Benjiro . I'll deal with the Hollow."

The Shinigami nodded, their relief palpable as they followed Yami's orders. They began to gather the bodies of their comrades, their movements slow and solemn as they worked in silence. There was a sense of gratitude among them, not just for Yami's timely intervention, but for the calm and composed way he had taken control of the situation.

As they began to retreat, Yami turned and used Shunpo to follow the Hollow he had just punched into the forest. The trees blurred past him as he moved with lightning speed, his senses sharp as he tracked the Hollow's spiritual pressure. The creature was strong, but Yami knew he was stronger.

It didn't take long for Yami to reach the spot where the Hollow had landed. The creature was struggling to its feet, its segmented armor-like plates cracked from the force of Yami's punch. There was a look of shock and fear in its eyes as it stared at Yami, clearly not expecting such a powerful opponent.

Yami landed softly in front of the Hollow, his Zanpakutō still sheathed at his side. His expression was calm, but there was a glint in his eyes that hinted at the killing intent simmering just beneath the surface.

The Hollow's fear was palpable as it stared at Yami. The oppressive aura that had earlier crushed the spirits of the Shinigami now weighed heavily on the Hollow itself. It could feel the raw power emanating from Yami, a power that dwarfed its own.

Yami stared back at the Hollow, his voice cold and even. "You've caused enough harm. It's time to for you to die ."

The Hollow snarled, its fear quickly turning into desperation. It lunged at Yami with a roar, its claws extended, aiming to tear him apart. But Yami didn't move. He remained still, his eyes locked on the Hollow as it closed the distance between them.

Just as the Hollow's claws were about to reach him, Yami unsheathed his Zanpakutō in a single, fluid motion. The blade flashed through the air, and in the blink of an eye, Yami's sword cut through the Hollow's attack, severing its claws with a single strike.

The Hollow howled in pain, staggering back as it clutched its mutilated hand. Blood oozed from the wounds, staining the forest floor. It looked up at Yami with wide, terrified eyes, realizing that it was hopelessly outmatched.

Yami's expression remained calm, his eyes cold as he slowly walked towards the Hollow. Each step he took sent a wave of terror through the creature, its instincts screaming at it to flee. But it was too late. The Hollow had nowhere to run.

"You attacked my comrades," Yami said, his voice low and deadly. "You killed them without mercy. And now, you'll pay the price."

The Hollow let out a desperate roar, charging at Yami with the last of its strength. But Yami was faster. In a blur of motion, he closed the distance between them and struck. His Zanpakutō cut through the Hollow's armor-like plates with ease, the blade slicing cleanly through its body.

The Hollow froze, its eyes wide with shock as it realized what had happened. For a moment, it stood there, trembling, before its body began to disintegrate, turning to ash as Yami's spiritual energy overwhelmed it.

Yami watched silently as the Hollow vanished, its existence being erased from existence, but as the hollow was disappearing we see a small purple flame in the center of the hollows disappearing body. which Yami calmly looks at before softly muttering the words...
