Chapter 3: Number 1

Yamamoto continuously flash stepped out of Harukas reach, and each time he did there was a short stop to allow Haruka the chance at improving his own flash step. Needless to say that as a real prodigy his own mastery over the flash stepped had already improved exponentially by the time that the duo had reached the academy.

Yamamoto with his usually poker face finally stopped the continuous flash steps and began to walk with his old man cane towards a large building in front of them "This is where you'll be staying until you graduate...boy" spoke Yamamoto without turning around

"You know, you're quite the boring person old man" Haruka replied putting an emphasis on old man making Yamamoto'a eye twitch slightly

"Well at least I should thank you for helping out with my flash step" said Haruka as he let out a pirate-like loud laugh. "Help? as if I did such a thing you learned it all by yourself." Yamamoto replies before stopping in front of a room and opening the door

As the two stepped inside the room that was filled with chatter everything immediately came to silence as Yamamoto spoke "This boy will now be attending the academy. I expect great things from him" After saying that Yamamoto turned around and walked out of the room

Haruka scratched the back of his head with a nervous laugh " Nice to meet you guys?"

A tall yet gentle looking man made his way towards Haruka and patted his shoulder before speaking " welcome to the class, this is Zanjutsu training your schedule will consist of Zanjutsu, Hakuda, Hohou, and finally Kido. Call me instructor Tennin or instructor for short"

Haruka smiles and gave the instructor a thumbs up "Will do instructor, but uhhh is there any way I could get a change of clothes?" After he said that the students finally broke their silence and began to laugh, some of theme muttering the words 'peasant' and 'homeless' which did not go unnoticed by Haruka.

After the instructor gave Haruka his blue change of clothes Haruka stood at the front of the class and introduced himself as Haruka Tsukahara and having been come from the rukongai district. Of course because many people do not normally come from those places and are instead usually from noble families, his origin was looked down upon and this earned him some remarks

With an angry face and a red angry emoji popping up on his forehead Haruka attempted to ignore and almost broke. Until the instructor spoke out.

"Well since Haruka here is new and has yet to know the abilities of his classmates why don't we have a light spar between him and one of you" this sentence caused a slight joy in the students hearts. They wanted to pummel the peasant. However instructor Tennin only wanted to know what would cause the captain commander to give the boy a compliment, he who very rarely every gave one, the look of curiosity was plastered all over his face as he subconsciously looked at Haruka.

"Volunteers?" Asked the instructor and a lot of students raised their hands in the air but Haruka had already chosen an opponent and he pointed out to a handsome individual in the crowd who had a small resemblance to Byakuya "I choose you" he yelled out in a very Ash like manner.

Murmurs and whispers where heard in the crowd "this kid just picked the top student in our year"

"He'll be pummeled for sure"

"Shh, don't let the instructor hear you"

The young male stepped down in front of Haruka and on to the Mat. The classroom itself being very large and allowing for such a spar to take place, it was basically like a larger karate dojo.

"My name is Kai, Kai Kuchiki. I'm going to crush you you loser" said Kai with a smug, prideful look on his face.

"Yeah yeah, cmon young master" sighed Haruka and pointed his asauchi at Kai. 'Man this guy is just like some kid from a cultivation novel' thought Haruka. Getting into a stance he nodded at the instructor and got ready. "Begin!" Yelled they instructor and signaled for the beginning of the match.

The students made a circle around the two with the instructor amongst the crowd and began to cheer. For Kai of course.

"So what if the captain commander complimented you? You're just... a worm!" Kai lashed out at Haruka with a vertical swing coming from top to bottom.

"I'll show you who's just a worm" Haruka wore a grin on his face as he clashed with Kai, and though Kai expected to overpower Haruka quite easily he instead got the opposite and was pushed back by Haruka a good few feet away causing the students to gasp in surprise

"Did you see that? The new kid pushed Kai back!"

"So then he must be pretty strong right?!?"

The students continued to cheer, some even beginning to cheer for Haruka.

The fight continued on for a few seconds after Haruka had knocked Kai back. Though they seemed to be equally matched this was only the case because of harukas own Reiatsu, as he was subconsciously using it to push against Kai who was consciously using it himself. It was a known skill. The truth however was not what the eyes could see, in reality, Kai had the edge on Haruka because of his higher expertise and experience in Zanjutsu and therefore was still getting in more hits then Haruka.

However after the minute mark passed Haruka's monstrous adaptation ability had already engraved into his body the experience and the technique, allowing his body to subconsciously break down Kai's own technique bit by bit and making him learn the weaknesses and openings in Kai's combat. But that wasn't all. This allowed Haruka to make the technique somewhat his own to further improve his own, like he was doing during the fight between himself and Kenpachi he was using the fight to further improve his own technique. And it showed.

After the minute mark it only took Haruka a couple of seconds to completely overpower Kai and have him on his ass, disarmed, with an asauchi pointed down at him. "I believe this match is over" said Haruka with a smirk on his face earning him a Tch from Kai and a look of disdain.

'Amazing, the the students it looked like it was an equal bout and yet it couldn't be more clear. The kid was using the fight and got better and better as it progressed. Kai, who was been training as a Kuchiki for years and has what seemed to be more knowledge was bested in a mere minute, he's a monster. No wonder the captain commander himself brought him here'

"I now declare the winner to be Haruka Tsukahara"

Announced instructor Tennin which was followed by a loud cheer from the students.

Haruka sighed in relief and looked down at Kai, his smirk fading into a genuine smile as he extended his hand to Kai intending to help him up. Kai looked at him in disdain and surprise at the same time however still refused the hand and instead slapped it away. "Don't touch me" he angrily remarked and at stood up himself disappearing into the crowd.

"What's with him? Oh well." He turns towards the students and opens his mouth yelling " IM HARUKA TSUKAHARA, AND FROM TODAY ONWARDS ILL BE THE TOP SHINIGAMI TO EVER HAVE LIVED"

All the students paused and looked at him stunned, it was after all a very ambitious claim. Even Instructor Tennin looked over but instead the surprise was overtaken by a smile and a thought 'These are the type of people the Gotei 13 need among their ranks'.
