Chapter 8• Once More

Last Chapter:

Wanting her to sleep for a bit more, I slowly got up and got out of the room, closed the door gently, scared that I will wake her up. Then I made my way to the activity room.

Chapter 8• Once More

27th March, 9:27 AM

There was a piano to the right of the room. This is perfect, I haven't touched a piano for a while now. Since Byeol's still sleeping, I might as well practice a bit.

I flipped the cover of the dusty piano open, sweeping the dust off with my hand. I place my hands on the keynotes and started playing.

Suddenly, I see a small figure opening the door to the room I'm in, it's Byeol. She's rubbing her eyes, obviously not fully awake.

"Is it Jimin?" She asks using her milky morning voice.

"Oh, you're awake? Come sit down." Seeing this cute side of her, I can't help but smile softly at the sight.

She sits down next to me softly as light as a feather while I keep playing the piano. Just then, something falls onto my shoulder. And I see it from the corner of my eyes, it was Byeol's head resting on my shoulder, eyes closed.

End of Jimin POV

Byeol POV

I open my eyes to the sight I see all the time, darkness. Sometimes I think to myself, will I wake up one day, to see the light, the colors, the scenery? Will God pity me and let a miracle happen? But it has been years, I have already gotten used to this life.

I pressed on the white object on my bedside table on the left. "Good morning Byeol-ah, the time now is 27th of March, 9:25 AM, 22 degrees Celsius, Spring. You woke up 32 minutes and 38 seconds later than yesterday."

This is the first voice I hear every day, Suzy gave me this smart housekeeper as a birthday present, Snowie. Normally when Suzy isn't here, it will accompany me and have little discussions with me and help me solve small problems. But I do those less now.

Because I have Jimin.

Even though I woke up later than usual, I'm still very tired. After watching a movie with Jimin last night, I secretly watched another movie and then went to sleep at midnight.

I took another short nap for 5 minutes, then a melodic piano piece woke me up. I got up vaguely and followed the music. The sound got louder and louder by seconds. There is a door on the right, I pressed my ear against the door. It really is here.

I opened the door, a familiar smell of flowers welcomed me. "Is it Jimin?" I asked inaccurately.

"Oh, you're awake? Come sit down." It's him. I sit down beside him assured.

He keeps playing, every key, every note, as if he was talking about his past, flowing from the keys like water, every note that he plays flows into my soul.

The sound of the piano along with his aroma is like a drug, it's fascinating as if it's hypnotizing me. The next moment, my eyelids felt heavy, and they closed completely, my head falling towards the left unconsciously.

End of Byeol POV

27th March, 10:00 AM

The girl fell asleep with her head on Jimin's shoulder. While Byeol was sleeping, Jimin didn't leave her for a second.

Without knowing how long it has been, the girl opened her eyes slowly. Realizing the situation she's in, her head sprung up from Jimin's shoulder.

"I-I'm sorry, I fell asleep leaning on you for a long time." Byeol apologizes, wiping her drool off of the corner of her mouth.

"It's okay! I'm not bad of a human pillow, am I?" Jimin said while patting his shoulder, talking in a playful tone to calm the frustrated girl.

"I slept for a long time... Do your shoulders feel sore?" Byeol asked. Jimin decided to joke around, and he put on a pained expression.

"Ahh...ahh, it's really sore. Do you plan to make it up for me? Help me massage it please?" "Okay okay okay!" Byeol couldn't help but to smile when she heard him say that. She stood up and cooperated with him.

"You play the piano so well, it should have taken years. You must have suffered a lot." Byeol said while massaging him.

"I haven't touched a piano for a long time. I was forced to learn how to play the piano when I was young." He said embarrassingly to the fact that he was praised.

"Ever since I was 12, I've stopped playing the piano. After I got to 5th grade, because the fees were too expensive, my family couldn't afford it so I stopped taking lessons, but I did borrow the school's music room secretly to practice. Then came the car accident, so it's impossible to be the same again." She said regretfully.

"What do you mean 'impossible'? Nothing is impossible. If you don't give up, it's possible before you die." Jimin spoke seriously as he turned around and stood up agitated.

The words he said made Byeol feel shook. She never thought that Jimin would say words that serious.

"Come on, sit down. I'll teach you."

"Hah?!" Byeol exclaimed after hearing what the boy said.

"Come on." The boy said surely.

Byeol POV

I put my cold hands on the keynotes. It's a familiar yet unfamiliar feeling. Although I remember the skills, it has been a while since I've played the piano, adding on that I'm blind, I have to get used to everything all over again.

During the process, I made a lot of mistakes, but Jimin taught me patiently, not minding that he had to say the same thing again and again. I keep on making the same mistakes on the flat and sharp keys because of their small surface area, so it was difficult for me to play the correct note under the situation of being blind.

"Feel this. You have to be one with the piano, your hands as your eyes." Jimin said patiently.

He took my hand and placed it on the black keynote. "This is a flat or sharp note. It's about 10cm, okay?"

I froze at the skinship of our hands, haven't responded to him yet.

"Byeol-ah? Are you okay?" Seeing that I didn't respond to him, he called me.

"I-I'm fine." I responded.

"Let's do it one more time then we can rest, come on, don't play it wrong!" Jimin spoke with expectation.

I breathe in deeply, putting my hands on the piano, and started playing. I recalled what Jimin taught me, and kept on playing and playing, the note I keep on mistaking is near.

'This is a flat or sharp note. It's about 10cm, okay?' I recalled.

I stretched my fingers and pressed on the note. I finally got it right.

Just then, a sound of one octave lower joined in, it was Jimin. Even though he didn't practice, he adapted to my rhythm, music finishing smoothly like flowing water...
