Chapter 19

Danny took Robbie back to the kitchen first where they caught up with Jim. Robbie got excited at his first sight of a commercial stove and broiler; steam trays, grill station and the line cooks in action. Jim introduced Robbie to the chef, Marcel, who presided over the kitchen and was happy to meet someone else who had same passion for food that he did.

After fifteen minutes of bonding with Marcel, Robbie realized that Jim and Danny were waiting for him. “I’ll come back when you aren’t so rushed,” he told Marcel, then followed Jim and Danny out of the kitchen to the elevator.

Bull gave them a tour of the dungeons and Robbie ran his hand over the equipment. “It’s all beautifully crafted, but it’s made to hurt people.”

Danny put his hand on Robbie’s shoulder. “Remember, only if they want to be hurt. Some people just like to be bound up. It gives them a feeling of safety. Some people need the pain as stress relief. You can’t judge another’s motives.”
