Untitled Chapter

Melissa's pov.

A new phase of my life starts here. A new chapter of my life also begin from here as well, the person I used to call dad is no more here, the person that used to tell me everything will be fine just left me without giving me a head up, the strongest person I knew on this planet is no other person than this same person, which happens to be my lovely father. The memory of what he told seven years ago strode into my mind, the day I overheard him breaking the sad news to my mom, even though I am still a thirteen years old teenager then but have heard about the word cancer before and many documentation about it. On hearing my mom loud sobbing, I cracked the door open without knocking, fear was easily written on my face, my hand was trembling and my forehead was sweating as I banged into their bedroom. This happened the same year when we left the mansion to get our own apartment, and I must say my parents must have gathered enough money from the Parker's because the place they secured will cost them a lot of money, nothing less than 200 thousand dollars. I don't know why they both agreed to stop living in the mansion, still, their reason is only visible to them, not knowing they will eventually returned to the place they ran from at the end of everything.

" Melissa, why don't you knock before you rush in," My dad's husky voice questioned, giving me an intense look. My mom was lying on the bed, with her head buried into the pillow, and this help her to muffled her sobbing voice from being heard by me.

" Dad, are you sick?" I blabbered out, as a thirteen years old teenager,I don't know how to put my words more than that. His eyes flickered open in surprise, he quickly changed his expression back into the blank face I was staring at earlier, his lips formed a purse and he smiled weakly. He raised one on his finger to signal to me to move closer. Without hesitation I moved closer to him on the black couch he was sitting on. He cupped my cheeks with his palms and smiled widely, not knowing he was only pretending then just to make me feel better.

" What did you hear?" He retorted in a monotonous tone. I look into his smiling eyes,  contaminating in my mind, whether I should tell him the truth or not. Eavesdropping on someone is a bad act not to talk of when the victim here is my own parents.

I gathered some courage and spoke out, " I heard you telling my mom that you are diagnosed with....." I hesitated for some seconds, trying to remember the name I heard before the word cancer, " Cancer" . I finally mumbled the last word. His forehead creased a little, and his eyes widened, his face relaxed at last and his expression changed to the calm face am used too, he grinned, and then carried me and place me on his lap, it feels like am still a baby.

" Is that all?" He asked, by now, the faint voice that was from my mom is no longer heard, which made me assume that she is no longer crying.

" Yes"

" You must have heard about it before, right?"

" Yes, one of the most deadly diseases on earth," I managed to say. He looked at me and sighed, I must have sidetracked him with my words.

" Melissa," he coughed, " You don't have to worry about this, and you are not allowed to discuss this with anybody, hope you understand?" I nodded at his words, and he flashed me a smile. I climbed down from his lap and darted my eyes towards the bed where my mom was lying on when I entered. She was now sitting, her back resting on the bed frame, her eyes were pale and swollen at the same time. I wanted to say something immediately our eyes met, but I didn't.

" Will you be fine?" I asked, now facing my dad again, he looked down for a few seconds before looking up to my face again.

" Trust me, I will be fine, every disease has its own cure" he answered, I glared at him suspiciously, did he really say that? Have heard that curing cancer is very rare and it will take a fortune to manage it, as the case may be, but still, I know he was only telling me this in order to deceive me. I nodded, not wanting to complicate the situation with my question, and then I walked out silently, not even bothering to look at my mom. And since then, I have been praying and also living with this nightmare.

" Melissa," I heard a faint voice and I flinched. I used the tip of my gown to clean my damp place, just to see clearly. I darted my eyes to the direction where I heard the voice, only to be surprised that I was in Draven's car, Melanie was sitting beside me and was patting my back at the same time.

" Where is my mom?Where are we? '' When did I got here" I stammered, looking at Melanie in confusion

" Calm down first, Melissa," she pleaded.

" Answer me!! Please" I raised my voice lightly, fighting back the tears that were about to leave my eyes. She sniffed, while I stared into her pale face.

" The head maid is with your mom inside the hospital room" she sighs.

" You lost consciousness two hours ago, and you just woke up now, also,  we're still in the hospital, "  I stared at her in disbelief. Did I really lose consciousness for two hours? I tried lifting my body a little but I find it hard to even move a finger, my body is stiff.

" Where is Draven?" I whispered when I noticed he was no where to be found.

" He is in the hospital, I just came to replace the person that stayed with you inside the car, because he received an urgent call"

"He?" I retorted, her eyes widen as if she just said a secret that's is not supposed to leave her mouth.

" Don't worry about that, just a friend of mine" she pointed out, her voice was poorly disguised.

" And the person doesn't have a name?, you can just leave me with a stranger in this situation" I muttered with my last strength.

" Not a stranger"

" So?"

" It is....". Sighs, " Bobby"
