Beyond Your Eyes

There is an old classic saying, in which our eyes are the window to our soul. Our deepest fears and desires hide within them. For Celeste D’Angelo, she is someone others would consider to be very blessed. As the only child to a vastly wealthy family whose power and influence knows no bounds, nothing stands in her way. With her serene personality she adored by her friends and is even considered among her peers as a glamorous classic doll. But despite that, internally Celeste has her own struggles, desires, and fears that if someone paid just a little more attention - they might mock and be cruel to her. On the surface nothing fazes or bothers her, but as one gets deeper and deeper into her skin a different story is told. Dean Cortez is a man who is a human hurricane. Also hailing from a wealthy family, Dean takes life by the reins and drives off leaving a disaster in his wake. Crass and wild, much like a wild mustang, he is a force that can’t be stopped. For Dean he indulges in doing whatever, whoever, and whenever. Embodying everything people expect from a rich kid especially one of equal status to the Cortez Family. But everyone has secrets, and though everyone gets close to him, no one sees the secrets he hides beyond his eyes and deep in his heart. Through some circumstances the pair end up together, and while they are vastly different from one another, their defining traits perfectly balance them out like Yin and Yang. Follow along to see how they navigate their mid-twenties, familial and societal pressures, the secrets they carry, and their growing affection for one another. authors note: This is my first kind of slice of life novel! Chapter 148 - Expectations

The day of our flight came. And it was also the day of the wedding.

I decided to only respond to the status of my attendance if people asked me directly. If they had my contact information, then it meant that we were close enough to share that with them.

The flight was a red eye flight which while not super convenient it meant that I could stay out of the public eye. So after my parents dropped me off I went into the jet to find Dean already waiting inside. To avoid any issues incase my parents wanted to actually see the plane take off we decided that Dean would arrive first and wait in the plane.

Thankfully they did not try to follow me in and just waved me off from the tarmac.

"Hey princess, its been a while." Dean yawned out his greeting clearly still tired and jet-lagged from his trip. But despite the exhaustion his excitement was still very evident on his face. "Hi, sorry about the early wakeup call, you can sleep while we fly over. We have all week to catch up."

Inside the jet was a few seats and a couch which can be converted into a bed. For takeoff and departure we would need to be in the seats but once in the air then we would be able to take down the bed and sleep if we wanted.

I planned on doing that as I was also quite tired from waking up early and it was an easy way to pass the time. "Hey its no problem this solves the jet lag I have so I will be bright eyed and bushy tailed for our trip." He wagged his finger at me and tapped my nose.

"Ha lets hope that energy lasts. For now rest up as much as you can." Once in the air I got the crew to pull down the bed so Dean could rest. I planned to read a bit before also sleeping but I was unsure of where to sleep. I could share the bed but I suddenly got shy and embarrassed about it.

"Are you also not turning in?" Dean was sitting in the bed already pulling the covers open to allow me in. I hesitated on what to do and just held up my book sheepishly. "Oh I was um planning to read for a bit." I expected him to give up but he patted the spot next to him. "Just read here. It will be more comfortable. Trust me I am a heavy sleeper, so I won't be bothered by it."

He patted the bed again and I decided to just not fight it and read. I got in and adjusted myself to get comfortable and Dean just lied back down and closed his eyes. His breathing evened and he soon fell asleep. I peeked out from the side of my book to see his relaxed face. He truly was exhausted.

The cabin was quiet and combined with the sheets being warm from his body heat the atmosphere was perfect for sleep. The fatigue was taking over quickly and I felt myself nodding in and out of sleep.

I felt my head sway a few times as my eyelids got heavier. However a pair of hands guided me to the pillow and I fell asleep. When I woke up again I was cradled in Deans arms. One of my arms was free and it was the one closest to my phone so I pulled it to see the time.

Our flight left at four in the morning and it was already noon. A full eight hours from when we departed to now. "Jesus just how tired was I." I glanced over and Dean was still in a deep sleep. His face was fully relaxed and his breathing was still the same. I figured I should be able to slip out without disturbing him since he was not up but with one tug I realized the position we were in.

He had his arm wrapped around my stomach and tucked under me. His grip was tight so even if I wanted to get up I could not. I wriggled trying to loosen myself but no to no avail I could not.

I did not want to break his sleep so I figured that I would just see if I could sleep again. I tried getting comfortable to sleep again but now my brain was alert and I was hyper aware of all my surroundings.

I had no choice but try to get Dean to release me. I tried pulling his fingers but he pulled me closer. "Oh you have to be kidding me." With some effort I managed to turn around and decided that if he needed more rest he can fall back asleep after. "Dean... let me get up." I tapped and pushed his face and finally after some nudging he started waking up from his deep slumber.

His grip did not loosen but he pulled me up so we could be sitting in an upright position. "What time is it?" He rubbed his eyes and then pushed his curls from his face. "Its noon. We slept basically a good chunk of the flight."

He did not seem as surprised about the time and instead just started getting out of bed. "Oh ok then lets get ready and eat." He had put on the pajamas provided by the flight so he grabbed his clothes to change into and grabbed a toiletry bag.

"Do you need the bathroom? You can go first if you need to." He left me the option to go first which I gladly took. We took turns and after getting cleaned up and more presentable they served a brunch menu.

We ate in a comfortable silence before Dean broke the silence. "Man that sleep was exactly what I needed after that flight from Spain. I don't even think I dreamed I just slept." His cheeky smile showed the dimples he had and the eye crinkles he had from smiling.

This moment in time felt like the dreams I had of my future husband where aside from the success and glory, the softness was what I wanted the most. This moment in time was like looking in a film, he was especially beautiful. And the expectations I had for this trip soared even higher.
