Beyond Your Eyes

There is an old classic saying, in which our eyes are the window to our soul. Our deepest fears and desires hide within them. For Celeste D’Angelo, she is someone others would consider to be very blessed. As the only child to a vastly wealthy family whose power and influence knows no bounds, nothing stands in her way. With her serene personality she adored by her friends and is even considered among her peers as a glamorous classic doll. But despite that, internally Celeste has her own struggles, desires, and fears that if someone paid just a little more attention - they might mock and be cruel to her. On the surface nothing fazes or bothers her, but as one gets deeper and deeper into her skin a different story is told. Dean Cortez is a man who is a human hurricane. Also hailing from a wealthy family, Dean takes life by the reins and drives off leaving a disaster in his wake. Crass and wild, much like a wild mustang, he is a force that can’t be stopped. For Dean he indulges in doing whatever, whoever, and whenever. Embodying everything people expect from a rich kid especially one of equal status to the Cortez Family. But everyone has secrets, and though everyone gets close to him, no one sees the secrets he hides beyond his eyes and deep in his heart. Through some circumstances the pair end up together, and while they are vastly different from one another, their defining traits perfectly balance them out like Yin and Yang. Follow along to see how they navigate their mid-twenties, familial and societal pressures, the secrets they carry, and their growing affection for one another. authors note: This is my first kind of slice of life novel! Chapter 129 - Not Even A Photo

"The president downgraded so much from his former fiancé."

Though everyone was speaking low in my ears they might as well been yelling. I checked my phone to see what they were talking about and a video was circulating online of Sol crying in the street and another attached video showing her trying to get into Celestes office.

I felt my blood boil at seeing this. Celeste made it perfectly clear that she did not want anything to do with us. She has humiliated Sol for her transgressions against her. And despite knowing that Celeste is capable of giving back what is served to her, she continues running back for more.

I had an inkling of why she would look for her. It likely had to do with the prenup and she wanted some help, but a small devil on my shoulder was instigating that she wanted to leave and needed her help to do so.

Not being able to stand the whispers anymore I got my PR team to take down any videos and bar any conversations from my employees. I left at lunchtime to find Sol and get to the bottom of what happened.

I knew she would not have returned to my house so the only other place she could go was her family. Her parents were the only family she had nearby. Her older brother Victor and his family lived abroad so they only came down to visit every so often.

Sure enough her car was in the driveway.

Her family home was quaint. Just a small family home in an unassuming neighborhood. My car stood out for being flashy compared to the minivans and small four door cars the other neighbors had.

Obvious of the wealth disparity between us.

I knocked on their door and her father answered. From the few pictures I have seen of her family, she resembles her father the most. The blonde hair, height and nose were distinctly his side of the family. Her eyes and lips came from her mother.

"Can I help you?"

We had not met before. Despite our engagement she never really discussed her family much and with everything happening in my life, we never got around to meeting. I was not even sure if they knew of me. Her relationship with them seemed complicated.

But despite that, I knew she would run here if she needed help or support. I sucked in my breath and stuck out my hand. "Sorry to drop in on you but my name is Felix Carter. I am not too sure if your daughter Sol mentioned me but we are engaged and I wanted to see if she was ok. I belive something happened while I was at work."

His eyes which were guarded shifted to shock. He stuck his head out slightly to get a better look at me. "Excuse me? Engaged?" His hand went to his hair as he pushed it back in distress. Obviously unsure of what to do and what to say.

"Ah yes, again so sorry to drop that on you considering we just met but I promise to meet you and your wife formally. I just wish to see Sol to make sure she is ok."

He finally seemed to snap out of his thoughts and narrowed his eyes at me. Guarded once more. "Give me a second." He slammed the door shut but I soon heard of what his next move was. "I NEED AN EXPLANATION RIGHT NOW YOUNG LADY!" Loud stomping was heard before a door was slammed open and shut. Some muffled noises soon followed after before hurried steps were heard and the door opened again.

Sol looked like a mess. She had been crying so her eyes were red and puffy. Her lips dry from her tears. Her hair was a mess and splayed all over the place. Despite her messy look, she still appeared dazzling to me.

"Felix!" She ran over to hug me before dragging me to my car. "Lets talk in your car, my parents will not give us privacy if we go in." I saw from the corner of my eye the window shades flutter and two sets of eyes peered back at us.

Her parents had come to the window to see what was going on between myself and her daughter.

Once in the safety of my car. The talk I expected to come did not. We sat in silence for a few minutes and I was not sure what we needed to address first. While I came to talk about why she sought out Celeste, I was now concerned over why her parents knew nothing about who I was. Sure we never met in person, but not even a photo?

"Thanks for coming by to see me." She broke the silence. She sniffed and peeked at my from the curtain of hair which cascaded from her side and she bent her head forward in sadness. "It means the world and more to me."

Suddenly the incident from earlier did not matter. But I wanted to understand more about what I learned from her father. "Of course I am your future husband, I care about your wellbeing. But speaking of that, why did your parents not know who I was?"

I don't think she thought I would ask as her body stiffened and the eyes I could see from her curtain of hair looked like a deer caught in the headlights. "I-." She stopped and took a shakey breath. "They have very strong opinions about wealthy people. Especially those in your circle. It has caused us some issues so to keep the peace the less I tell them the better."

Strong opinions? I knew some people had a mentality of 'eating the rich' that those of us with money do not deserve to be treated with respect due to our income. It was a thing among young people but I did not anticipate her parents feeling that way.

"Oh. I see. But when we get married what would happen then? I doubt they would sit still and let us be if its a strong enough opinion." She just shook her head in disagreement. "Trust me, it will be fine I would just not mention anything else to them unless I am present."

I did not want to further aggravate her so I let it slide for now. "Ok sure. So now that we have discussed that, why don't we go over what had happened with Celeste." This time she did not stiffen but just slumped over in defeat. "I am sorry for seeing her but you left me with no option. You know how I feel about prenups. I can't sign one when I know your mother will make it difficult for me."

I could not argue for that as she was right. My mother will whittle herself down to the bone so as to make Sol miserable. And the prenup was just the beginning.
