Moments of helplessness- I

Micheal Ford.

One of the men that her father had her meet during The time that he was scouting out people that marry her.

Michael Ford was standing in front of her, and her house with a huge bouquet of flowers in his hand and a smile on her scary face.

Instead of him, it could have been anyone. Her father, her brother or any other member of the family but it had to be him.

"Hello," Joyce greeted him politely. No one was standing with them. That could mean one thing, which was they were meant to be alone.

Her worst nightmare had come true.

"Miss Sullivan," He nodded back. "How have you been since her last visit?"

"Good." She answered. "And you? How has everything been with you and the business?"

Translation: I know of the business but I will never ask for details. Just like every other woman who was not involved directly, Joyce just asked if it was good or bad.

"As good as it can be." He answered before handing her the bouquet. "I noticed that your house has a beautiful garden. Would you like to take a walk with me?"

If she said no, there was not much that he could do about it. But it was her father that scared her. He would literally kill her.

"Yes, why not." She whispered before handing the bouquet to the maids standing near the door.

Michael helped her come down from the stairs before taking his hand away. Touching was not exactly forbidden, but touching without reason was not looked upon kindly. Especially the people who were devout Catholic and culture would not allow it.

They silently walked on the stove and put in the garden which was huge because it just came with the property. Joyce silently waited for him to say something.

Why was he here anyway? if he wanted to say no, he could have done so with her father alone and if he, unfortunately, wanted to say he has, then the result could be carried out the same way.

"you must be aware of the fact that your father is looking for a suitable hand in marriage for you."

Finally, he began to talk but not what she wanted to hear. "I do," she answered as she gave him a glance before looking forward.

"I met you last week. Do you remember?"

"Yes," she whispered hoarsely. Joyce knew exactly where this was coming in as much as she hated this, she knew that people were watching from the house.

"And there was a reason for our meeting."

She nodded, unable to allow words to come from her mouth. If she let herself say anything, it might turn out to be the worst thing to happen.

Michael stopped and stepped ahead of her to face her. His hand reached into his jacket pocket and he brought out a velvet box.

He opened the box and she saw a diamond ring, with the princes cut in it. " Joyce O'Sullivan, would you do the honor of marrying me?"

And becoming his second wife?

"Yes," she whispered, smiling through the small amount of dampness in her eyes. " yes, I would marry you."
