"don't tell me" Sandra snapped at him, cutting him off. She was angry.
James smiled gently. He was extremely satisfied with the way Sandra had reacted. He then had the urge to tell her more on the dragon legend. "dragons si…" but was cut off once again
"what do you know?" Sandra widened her eyes as she asked. " don't tell me the rubbish in your head. You know nothing." She was still angry that he treated her like she was a dummy and still had the guts to try to show off. 'show off what? Your grades aren't even close to mine', She murmured but could be heard clearly.
James smiled "grades? Grades doesn't measure the level of someone's intelligence. It's just a little scheme the academy developed to measure varying levels of achievement in a course." He smirked at her and added "you have a lot to learn".
Sandra didn't utter a word. He had completely made her look stupid. She looked away and paced towards the dragon topiary angrily, leaving both Liam and James behind.
"so listen" James went after her grinning. He derives pressure from annoying her. she neither waited not looked back, indicating that she won't pay attention to him. he continued knowing fully well she could hear him. "dragons signifies chaos and destruction. Therefore they are creatures of chaos and destruction that could bring down a whole city using their pure flame of fire which is very hard to distinguish. 20 centuries ago according to the book of legend 1. The dragons were destroying cities with their flames. Burning down everything they came across. they were among the strongest creature and it was hard to take them down due to the scales all over their body". He narrated walking behind Sandra while Liam was lagging behind staggering as he walked but they didn't notice.
He continued "only few managed to control the dragon and they were called the pure souls." As he spoke and noticed Sandra secretly looking at him, showing that she was interested. He smiled with a gentle and delight look in his eyes. He cutely shaked his head "in the city of vikians where it was rumored that the last alpha of dragons dwelled in. There was a young boy who could communicate and control dragons. He was the grandchild and only blood line of Siezan, the chief of the vikians and leader of Vikings. He had lost the rest of his family to the flames of dragons. he swored to wipe out every last one of them to get justice for his family and people even if it was the last thing he did. Him and his fellow Vikings risked their lives and fought endlessly whenever they encountered a dragon or discovered their hideout. At first he tried to stop his grandson from communicating with dragons but didn't succeed, before he decided to use his grandson to discover the location of the last dragon alpha. When his grandson discovered that he was being deceived, it was already late, the alpha has been slayed. In process to protect the rest the of the dragons he ended up dying along with them. Mr Siezan and the other Vikings made the cave to collapse not being aware that his grandson was inside. So that was the sad history of dragons."
"So his grandson was a pure soul. What made him a pure soul? " Sandra asked curiously. She had reduced her pace unconsciously and was already walking side by side with James to hear him clearly.
"I don't know. The book of legend didn't say or mention it. It might be that he had a kind heart." he replied totally unsure of what he was saying.
"Does that mean he was the only citizen of vikians that had a pure heart?" She looked at him. His reply was quite stupid. "The dragons didn't mean to bring harm to any of them but they did it to protect themselves. It's just a misunderstanding and they recorded that they brought chaos and destruction" Sandra stated defending the dragons. "From which grade's book of legend did u see this?" Sandra suddenly asked with a soft voice.
"Grade 12" James replied naturally
Sandra looked at him with bewilderment before she spoke with a high pitch voice "and you dared to belittle me like I was dumb. I am yet to be in that grade. How do you expect me to know that?"
"You claim to be smart. Of course I expected you to read ahead." he gave her a mischievous smirk and looked forward. they were already at the end of the dragon topiary. He brought out the map and went through it. "two more turns and we are there. Liam, you claimed there was danger ahead, has anything happened since?" He asked still looking forward. He didn't hear any reply and just smiled.
"Liam?" Sandra had turned back and found him resting on the dragon's leg with his hand on his chest. He was still shirtless. She walked back to him worriedly and noticed a slight purple color on his chest where he placed his hand. It was like he was bleeding internally. She carefully removed his hand and saw that it's was not just a slight purple color but thick a purple color on his skin above his heart.
Liam could no longer bear the pain. He was already groaning.
"What's wrong with you?" Sandra asked gently and worriedly. She had already remove Liam's hand from his chest. She did not know whether to touch it or not. It might hurt him if she does.
"I am fine." He replied weakly trying to suppress the pain. He has been holding in for long expecting the pain to stop like when the grass had cut him before but it didn't. It remained at that same level of pain ever since he crossed that plant and it slowly made him weak.
"Why is your chest purple?" Her eyes were averting as it moved from his chest the to his eyes which narrates how much pain he was going through.
James turned back when he hasn't heard Sandra's voice for a while and was surprised to see them at the feet of the dragon. He couldn't see Liam properly. He only saw his legs stretched out on the floor while Sandra's back faced towards him (James)covering Liam.
Why did they go back? They were following him, Sandra was walking step by step directly next to him while Liam was behind them. "What's going on?" He stood their and shouted. "Chicken Liam, are you at it again? You want to back out again?" He shouted carrying hints of anger on his voice. "What have you seen this time?"
"Liam is not fine? He is sick." Sandra shouted. She was at the blink of crying. Watching Liam in that state made her feel he would die anytime soon. His chest looked so bruised, he was lowly groaning in pain although he tried to suppress it and it seemed like it was really diffcult for him to speak.
Judging from how Sandra spoke and the tears in her eyes. It seemed serious and might not be one of Liam's plots. He walked back to them and was stunned to see Liam's chest purple."What's going on? How did this happen?" James asked Liam.
"I'm fine just tired we have been standing for so long. I needed to rest." He replied dully. He knew all along that it was because he had crossed the elephant grass which made him feel like crap.
"Liam you look like shit." Apart from the purple chest he had cuts and bruises all over his body. James eyes were fixed on his chest wondering why his chest looked beat up. "The elephant grass, right? That's it." He concluded because ever since they started the journey to obtain an unknown item the only danger that was a treat to health was the elephant grass. "Why are you so storburn? If you had listen and stayed back this wouldn't have happened. Eversince we came here have we encountered any danger?" James asked. Liam looked really in pain no matter how much he tries to hide. And what annoys him more was Liam was still trying to it.
"I'm fine. Stop nagging me" he replied as tries to stand up. "I just wanted to rest for a bit and you won't let me. Let's go." He groaned and stumbled back down. With reflects James quickly assisted him up again.
