24- The Worst Job

After the fodder were knocked out, Noah undid his dragon surge.

"That was one hell of a spell brat" - Yami

"Thanks" - Noah

"Alright, now that is all done, I'll go back first. Clean this up" - Yami said as he signaled for Finral to come closer.

Finral, who was hiding somewhere, came running and opened a portal for his captain.

"Don't you dare to leave Yami!" - Jack

"We came to rescue you, you ill-mannered man. The least you can do is help clean this up" - Charlotte

"What should I expect from a foreigner" - Nozel

"You have this brat, he'll help on my behalf!" - Yami said before he jumped into the portal. Finral jumped after Yami and the portal closed

The three captains looked at Noah,

"*sigh* Fine, I'll help" - Noah knew he can't run away from clean up duty.

Noah walked around collecting the grimoires from all the knocked out people. He then tied them all up, which took some time. After he was done with tying them up, a spatial portal opened up near the entrance of the cavern.

"Hello there captains, I hope I'm not late" - A blond haired middle aged man in mage robes walked through the portal. Using his spatial magic, Noah had moved the prisoners one by one.

Afterwards the spatial mage was kind enough to send Noah to the base.

Noah opened the door to the base, and saw that everyone was asleep. Some were toppled over mountains of food, while another was laying among countless bottles of liquor.

Noah didn't want to wake them, so he just snuck away to his room.

*Next Morning*

While everyone was doing their own thing after breakfast, Yami called Noah. Noah went to Yami, he can see a serious look on Yami's face.

"Listen kid, I have to say. I'm sorry you got stuck doing this job" - Yami Said his face still looked very serious.

"What job?" - Noah asked as he was concerned

"The worst job a magic knight has to do. You might have to kill yourself at some point. This will be dangerous, and taxing, so steel yourself. I would recommend you take very type of precaution you can think of. Prepare for every scenario you can think of. This will e very difficult and quite frankly I don't want you to die out there" - Yami

"Holy shit, captain. Just what kind of mission am I going on?" - Noah

"The worst kind kid. *sigh* I would've sent Finral there, but a mage can't go around without his method of transportation. This job requires focus, so Gauche, Venessa, and Charmy are out of the question. It also requires proper handling, so Magna, Luck, Gordon, and Grey are also out of the question. If this mission didn't require mana, I would've sent that loud mouthed midget over there." - Yami

"Just what is that you want me to do" - Noah was very nervous right now.

"Mage HQ requires a member from each squad to fill in. For the first time in a while, they asked the Black Bulls to do that. It usually goes to the lower squads like Green Praying Mantis, or the Purple Orcas. Anyway, it came down to us, and I have to send you" - Yami

"Fill in for what?" - Noah

"Fill in to take emergency calls" - Yami

When Yami said emergency calls, the entire call went quite

"Nooooooo~ Captain, you can't send him there, he's too young for that" - Venessa yelled from the other side of the room as she ran over and gave Noah a hug

"Woah now captain. You can't send the new recruit to do this. Can't we decline this?" - Magana

"No! This came from the wizard king himself" - Yami answered as if he considered this already.

"Sorry, man. It looks like you'll have to go" - Luck looked at Noah

"Just why is everyone saying that?! Just say it, why do you all hate this?" - Noelle couldn't take it anymore

"You see, this is where you would sit in a small office and answer different communication devices. They're mainly for emergencies and calls for help" - Magna

"Just how many people own communication devices anyway. Besides out of all of those who own them, how many would get in trouble?" - Noelle

"That's the point! Only nobles have communication devices, and they don't hesitate to call the magic knights at all. When I did this a year back, I had this noble who called me, when they saw my Black Bull's cape, they cursed me out. Then they told me to send help, they didn't forget to make sure it's not the black bulls. The issue was, a commoner opened a door to a shop, but didn't hold the door open for him." - Venessa

"That's not the worst of it. They call for every small detail. Like this one time when I had to convince a lady that communication devices will not record her after we end the conversation. She was so convinced that we spy on her" - Magna

"STOP! We don't want to scare him. Just go, I can't wait to hear the stories you'll bring us at the end of the day" - Yami laughed when he said the last part

'Just how bad can it be' - Noah thought as he took the mission details from Yami, before heading out of the base.

Noah made it to the mage HQ soon after. Once he got there he reported to Marx.

"You can follow Denis, he'll take you to the station" - Marx said as he pointed at a young man in mage robes

Noah followed the young man, until they got to a big room with many chairs. Each chair has a magical communication device in front of it. On one side of the room, there was a map that had the location of the magic knights' bases. It seemed dangerous to have those locations marked on a map that can be stolen, copied, or even memorized by enemy mages. But it also helped the dispatchers to know which squad was the closest to the incident.

After scanning the room for a moment, Noah walked up to Denis.

"So, you're new here. It's pretty repetitive. When someone calls, ask them what is the issue, and where the issue is. Then call the nearest magic knight squad and let them know, that's it" - Denis said with lifeless eye.

"Thanks" - Noah said before he took a seat where he can see the map clearly and waited for the communication device to ring.

Not even a minute after Noah sat down, the communication device started ringing. Noah picked it up. A hazy light blue projection appeared, Noah can see the face of a fat woman on the other side

"Help! Help! My maid tried to kill me!!" - The woman screamed

"Calm down ma'am. Are you in a safe place right now?" - Noah said seriously

"Yes, I'm in my estate, specifically in my dinning hall" - The woman

"Then where is your maid?" - Noah asked skeptically

"She's standing right in front of me" - The woman

'Bruh'

"Then how did she try to kill you?" - Noah's serious tone was gone

"She jumped on me with a glass of wine, trying to kill me with it" - The woman

"No madam, I just tripped and fell while holding the wine glass. I swear that's all" - Noah can hear the voice of a young girl in the back ground

[She can't be serious...right?] - Draco

[Sadly, she is] - Noah

"Maybe it was an accident like she said" - Noah tried to reason with the woman

"Are you saying I'm lying? How dare you! Do you know who I am? I can have you kicked out of the order of knights!" - The woman

"..." - Noah didn't know what to say

[HAHAHAHAHAH. I'm sorry Noah, but humans are very stupid. She has no idea who you are, and she even threatens you. How does she think this will work on anyone? HAHAHAHAHA] - Draco was laughing uncontrollably. Even without transmitting his own thoughts through, Noah can feel Draco laughing, that's how hard Draco was laughing.

"Alright ma'am, just give me a name and an address, I'll send someone over right away" - Noah

"Humph! You should've listened from the begging" - The woman proceeded to give Noah her name and address. Noah looked at the map. The city she lives in is between the Purple Orcas, and the Aqua Deer.

Noah then hung up with the woman, he made a call to the Aqua Deer base and let them know the whole story. He then asked them to send someone to solve this issue.

Once that was done, Noah left the room he was in, and walked straight towards the exit and left the entire mage HQ.

[Where are you going?] - Draco

[Fuck this! I'm not dealing with this shit! I'm a ROYAL! I don't do this kind of shit] - Noah

[You seem to use your royal title when you don't want to do something] - Draco

[That's exactly the point for having a high rank, is to use it when you don't want to do something] - Noah

A little while later, Noah was walking in the market shopping for some new clothes.
