Chapter 48 Requiem

Marcus didn't change his expression as he drew his sword to him. They were blatantly disrespecting their honors and they were even trying to destroy their unacceptable peace.

" Do you know what you are doing? You are destroying the lives of many yet you act like this. You are no different from our enemies whether you come from other countries or inside. I won't tolerate such acts anymore."

Hasan nodded at his words, agreeing with his words. He didn't think these men came from the church because he recalled there was a group of assassins that excelled in the battle in the South.

If his predictions were correct, they should be from the middle east. Moreover, he had an accent that was oddly similar to that area people.

" I see. So you choose death over life. Then may God guide you in your afterlife."

The masked man didn't speak anymore before turning his back toward them. It wasn't a taunt, rather it was confidence in his power. He trusted in his strength even when he was in front of great men like Hasan and Marcus whose names were spread across the continent.

" Sera, listen to me. I want you to escape from here if things go beyond our scope. I know they aren't simple people and we might likely be killed here, so I want you to lead a small force and retreat when I say so. Don't try to fight back because this isn't the place for your death."

Marcus threw a golden cross to Sera while looking at Hasan who seemed to agree. Both of them knew they were going to be ambushed here and this was a bad place to fight.

Hasan also muttered something into the ears of his men while praying with his both hands. He gently took off his white robe while holding his reigns.

" Today will be a scorching day, my friend. I hope you are ready for some heat."

Hasan shouted loudly while pointing at the dunes where a large number of soldiers emerged from it. They all wore Middle Eastern armor with scimitar around their waists.

The leading figure was a man with bronze skin and a black beard. He silently looked at them with a calm face while looking at his scimitar.

" For Allah."

He roared with a furious tone, gesturing his men to attack the envoys. The soldiers were born in the sands of the south, thus they moved around it without a problem while both Byzantine and Roman soldiers were unable to show their full potential.

Roman paladins had heavy armor which was the worst thing in the desert while Byzantine warriors were far less in number.

" Oh pitiful souls, may my blade smite these unholy soldiers of thy kingdom."

Marcus chanted his old chant while taking some of his armor. He knew these would hinder his movements in the sand even if they gave the best protection.

" Kill all those bastards."

Hasan didn't chant like Marcus while giving out his commands to ensure that they were in formation.

He was a veteran warrior, so he could spot enemies who weren't just attacking their front. They were attacking from the wings as well to circle them around and this position wasn't a good position for defense. Specifically, they didn't have any ranged units. Hence, he had to take a defensive position.

" Prepare for the impact. The second line charges forward and makes a way for retreat. The first line protects them from the front while we will handle the rest."

Hasan wasn't confident enough to defeat them but at least he had to break their circle for the rest of the group.

" Help those soldiers. Sera and Gabriella, follow their group. Make sure to leave this place. I believe Hasan isn't foolish enough to attack our man."

Marcus said calmly while dashing next to Hasan who nodded at his signal. They both knew this was their end because only they were the strongest in their group, so they had to watch for their rear which was a suicide mission.

" They aren't simple soldiers. They are observing our formation to counter it. Marcus, we have to move fast."

Hasan shifted his toward the commander while thinking calmly. The haste was their worst enemy.
