BEAUTIFUL HELLO : The premier drill

We were only us two when the world was still young. Gomezyani was not only a friend but also a spy on those who gossip of me either myself. "Royd! Royd! Come and eat!" and even though mama called only my name but still sounded like both of us, either on his name. We were very innocent the world sounded very sweet for us our talks and minds sounded only unforeseen dreams we made our parents very proud.

Royd! Royd! This should be Lalisa what must she be up to this time and at this place we slowly moved through the bushes "oh look at them they are two with Joyce"Gomezgani whispered we were very afraid of girls we could only chill with them at school but not at home and at night like this time it was 5pm and were at the bush taking our goats for it was getting dark. The thing that made us more terrified of girls is our parents used to warn us more about girls, school taught us more bad of girls and we could chill bad of girls and I guess those are the things that gave us the load of terror in us on girls.

We took more than five minutes to answer the call yet the girls were very sure we were in the bush because they heard the murmuring noise of us and the grating of the goats showed we were really in. This time it was Joyce who called both of our names "Royd! Gome! Mwatizina??" this was the tumbuka translation which means won't you answer us?at last upon hearing the plead of we finally answered, heee! ninjani kasi? (who is it? )," it's me Lalisa we are coming from your home your mom directed us here, why were you taking too long to answer?"She asked," no were were wondering who was it. No I only missed you so I only wanted to say hi" she continued by saying since you didn't come to school this morning. I couldn't hear what these others were saying but am sure it wasn't of my business so I didn't give them my ear. Unfortunately I left her without a clear response the only thing I could do was to wipe my face like I was washing it and the two lettered murmur"mmmh! uuuh! " til the girls left us in hurry escaping from the group of gang led by mabvuto who wanted Lalisa the most but she was not interested in him and we also hid back in the bush in fear of them we showed up when the gang had passed and we then took our goats home we all wondered why the girls approached us and it was the first time to be up approached by them in fact by any girl except our sisters, the thing didn't surprise us more because we felt we were in adolescent stage as our teacher said and this time we were all fourteen.

It was dark we were all at home, "what is the relish now?" papa asked mom, my mother answered back with a question "what did you want it to be?" This isn't a surprise to us we are used because this is how most of African women do answer their husbands.

Later came my sister to the kitchen "Iwe thoko ndiwo ndichani" my father asked, this now was chewa translation meaning What is the relish?

Thoko is one of my sister and Thoko answered back "Therere " (okra) my father wasn't interested in the kind of these relish though my mother used to mock her saying "you have grown up with the same relish and now you now nagging!" It was then 7pm when my father sent me to go and buy carpenta (parked fish sold in shops) it was raining by the time and there were blackout we are just used with our electricity suppliers in malawi we don't spend aday we without turning off electricity upon approaching the shop I saw joice, Lalisa's friend with a guy am sure it must be brave the very pompous guy one of silver Spooner, son of the richest guy in our village I wondered because the way I knew the girl was very innocent to me such that I didn't expect it from her I couldn't get involved in I did what I came for and left the shop

Few days later I found myself fallen in love with Lalisa and same with Joyce and Gomezgani but very suspicious with Joyce recalling the scene that the day I was at the shop though it didn't worry me much. Few weeks later of our relationship I started hearing the murmur from the number of people seemed like brave wanted Lalisa through Joyce this didn't surprise me much recalling the scene at the shop though trusted her much that she can't free herself from me.

"I heard that your friend Gomezyani is to South Africa??" These words worried me more when mama said them. Gomezyani's parents were in South Africa as most of Africans do especially Malawians and they had called him up to do his secondary school education there I knew I will be left alone.

Things weren't like before Lalisa's character started changing, I started seeing her with the new things daily every day beautiful watches, clothes and necklaces like that of Brave I knew it was a mess to me. In few weeks later Gome departed to south Africa I escorted him with a last goodbye and he left me with vodacom T-shirt which his father had sent him a year ago for us it was almost new because it had none of the torn hole in it because we used to put on torn clothes. It was so said for me for I lost both friend and girlfriend at once and I was left alone.

It took me 3 years without a girlfriend and without a friend icould trust like Gomezgani was.

"who is that guy likes staying alone even at home" Tamanda asked her friends, Tamanda was a girl who had just come in our village from Lilongwe her father was a teacher who had just been transferred to our village.

"Hi! can you be my friend?" Tamanda asked from my back I wasn't sure who she really was asking because I never expected that kind of hello from any girl since I broke up with Lalisa.

It took no more minutes I felt weak again I fell in love with her she was looking very pretty such that I could call her cindirella a certain animated movie I watched at my friend's house. Our love went on smoothly I even forgot there were problems in this universe.

Four years later "wayamba dala uziona wakuba iwe" waziyamba dala uziona wakuba iwe " where the is that noise coming from?? My grandpa asked from his wooden chair before I answered I saw the cloud of people approaching our house, my heart bumped as if I have run 500 miles I thought it was my father who had stolen because he has done this scene for at least 2 times in few past years and the words in their song meant to provoke a thief that's when I saw one young guy called pempho pointed me saying "it's that boy" and the came and arrested me to jail but iwas speechless because I never thought I was guilty of anything.

While at the police station I heard that there was shoplifting at night at Mr Mhonie's shop and the young man saw me by what I wore he suspected me to be the one who had shoplifted and from my father's past scenes nobody doubted it but I swear it wasn't really me it took not too long when Gomezgani return from South Africa but he had really changed this time when he came visit me at the prison I was very delighted to see him back but for him he wasn't that too happy I knew we weren't the same anymore while I was still at the prison Gomezgani fell for Tamanda but Tamanda's heart wasn't on him but anyway she accepted to get rid of the mocking that she was a rober's girlfriend a week later it was revealed by the same young man that I wasn't serving my case they had just betrayed me but it really was Mabvuto who store my T-shirt for them to see as if it was me and the boy revealed this because he didn't get enough share from the gloceries stolen.
