Chapter 35: Uncovering the Truth

Daniel, also known as "Dong," my brother-in-law, took it upon himself to intervene with Fang, the factory director, upon learning of my father's discovery of the accounting irregularities. Regrettably, instead of addressing the issue, Fang dismissed it as a mere bluff, leading to my father's tragic demise.

One misstep led to another, compelling the need for more bloodshed to conceal the truth, leaving Daniel with no choice but to continue down a treacherous path. While Daniel orchestrated these events, Fang turned a blind eye to his actions. Upon learning of this, Vernon promptly mobilized his team to apprehend Daniel. However, Daniel managed to evade capture and went into hiding.

As the situation unfolded, Devon became increasingly agitated, urging me to remain safe and refrain from venturing out unnecessarily.

"I know it's still you, worrying about me," I teased him with a smirk.

When Devon suggested accompanying me to the police station to provide a statement, I quipped, "You'd be waiting outside anyway. What's the harm if I go to the police station? Just let Balley drive me."

At that moment, he received a phone call, likely related to a company matter. After hanging up, he still appeared uneasy. I couldn't help but find his nervousness endearing.

"You're busy. Vernon said I'll be done soon, and you can pick me up then," I reassured him.

He nodded and prepared to leave, but I stopped him. Turning to face him, I thanked him and planted a kiss on his lips.

"Silly, what are you thanking me for? I promised you, so let's be good," he responded, gently rubbing my hair. Despite the good he had done and his genuine care for me, memories of the harm he had caused lingered in my mind.

Was I being genuine with him, expressing my gratitude and emotions, or was it all just an act? The uncertainty left me feeling conflicted.

Pushing aside these thoughts, I changed into suitable attire and asked Balley to drive me to the police station. As we approached the station, I instructed Balley to stop the car, intending to exit while he parked. However, before I could make my move, a van suddenly appeared, and I found myself being forcefully pulled inside.
