Chapter 61

Annoyed by all the meaningless chatter going around, Don decided to stay at the bar as he waited for the important guests to arrive.

His job as a journalist is to cover the events of the party and get a word from those special people such as Luke Fox.

He ordered a beverage from the bartender to ease his nerves.

As he waited, he didn't realize he's already on his third drink.

Just when he was about to take a sip, somebody bumped his arm causing him to spill a little bit of his drink. Annoyed, he turned around to give them a piece of his mind, but he widened his eyes instead when he found out that it was Carrie Kelley.

"Hey." Carrie smiled.

Don sighed and smiled back. "Hey."

"You look like you're having fun over here." She pointed at the empty glasses in front of Don.

"I mean, I had to because these rich folk all just like to babble about nonsense." Don chuckled. "You alone?"

"No, I came with the commissioner." Carrie pointed at Barbara Gordon in the distance who nodded at them.

Don just did a little wave in greeting.

"Have you seen Terry, yet?" Carrie asked.

"Not yet. He's going to be part of Luke Fox's entourage, I presume."

"Speaking of the Devil." Carrie turned her eyes near the entrance.

Wayne Enterprises just made an entrance. Each member of the board came one by one starting with Luke Fox.

The next ones to enter were their division managers. And along with them was a face all too familiar with the two.

When Terry's eyes met theirs, Carrie and Don waved at him.

Terry smiled at them and gestured them to wait as he greeted everyone he knew along the way.

"Man, I'd hate his job." Don said.

"Yeah. Criminals are more interesting to talk to."

"Because you have the same wavelength as them." Don teased.

"What do you mean by that? You were a criminal too."

"And that's why we're pals." Don ate an olive while grinning at Carrie.

Carrie chuckled through her nose. "Geez..."

"How's Max btw?"

"Well, she's doing really well in her job at WayneTech. Even though I say that, she gets frustrated a lot because her competition is high. She was used to having it easy back in GCU."

"Yeah...the world is just that big after all."

"What about you, Mr. Hotshot journalist? Have you decided to marry Blade yet?"

"..." Don stared at his glass filled with liquor as he swished it. "It hasn't been going well."

"Why?" Carrie furrowed her brows in concern.

"Blade is...I don't know. She keeps distancing herself from me."

"What did you do?"

Don laughed bitterly. "I don't know..."

"Hey, guys!" Terry finally came over. Sensing an uncomfortable mood, he asked what happened.

"It's nothing." Don waved it off and smiled. "How's everything?"

"Well..." Terry was still suspicious but he decided to respect Don's privacy. "It's very stressful at work. I bust my ass everyday and haters just try to sabotage me all the time."

"I can imagine..." Carrie remarked. " How are you and Dana?"

"Dana? She's doing great. We're doing great....you could say it's too great."

"What do you mean by that?" Don asked as he gave a glass of wine to Terry.

"Thanks." Terry grabbed the glass. "It's just too suspicious for a relationship to be this long without any major problems. I think she's hiding something."

"Well, you're hiding something too." Carrie rolled her eyes.

"I know, that's why I can't get suspicious because of my guilt."

"Maybe it's about work. She works at Arkham with Chelsea, right? Have you tried asking Chelsea?"

"No, she says eveything is great. Even Chelsea's story matches up with her."

"Then why worry? Stop being too pessimistic about it."

"You're right..." Terry took a sip from his wine glass. "Maybe I'm just being too paranoid."

"Hey, It's what makes you a great Ba-OW!!" Don massaged his arm.

Carrie pinched him and was glaring at him.

"Sorry...I guess I've had too much to drink and was being too comfortable." Don said.

Terry laughed and Carrie shook her head.

"I have to go to work now." Don got off his seat.

"You better watch yourself this time." Carrie warned Don.

"Don't worry. I'll be the one asking questions anyway." Don said and set his eyes on the crowd of people. Among them, a beauty happened to catch his eye. "Hey, Carrie. Who's that talking to Commissioner Gordon?"

Carrie narrowed her eyes to get a good look. "I don't know."

"Why? What about her?" Terry asked.

"She looks like someone important."

"Hey. Maybe that's why you're having problems with Blade." Carrie glared at Don.

"What? I'm very faithful to her. I just got curious because it's my job."

"Well..." Terry fiddled with his smartwatch. "Matching her face with the party's guest list, her name is Diana Prince, an Archaeologist."

"Since when did Commissioner Gordon have a friend Archaeologist?" Don raised a brow. "It probably has something to do with 'that' world." He is referring to the otherworld-like life of superheroes.

As they were talking about the mysterious woman named as Diana Prince, Barbara Gordon made eye contact with Terry and gestured with her head to come over.

"See." Don shrugged.

"Looks like your hunch is right, Don." Terry said before leaving his wineglass on the counter and walking towards Barbara and Diana.

"You processed all that with just one look?" Carrie praised Don but she would soon regret it.

"Hah." Don scoffed and looked at Carrie. "I'd probably be a better detective than you."

Annoyed, Carrie tried to punch Don on his arm but Don successfully evaded it and ran away to do his job.

----

"Barbara..."

A sweet alluring voice made Barbara Gordon turn her head. A woman with luxurious black hair and sharp facial features wearing a red gown accented with Gold accessories was there.

"Wo...Diana?" Barbara uttered.

"Hi." Diana Prince smiled.

"Did you come back to the league?"

"No." Diana furrowed her brows. "I'm here on personal business."

"Will you tell me if I asked you what it is about?"

"My job is an archaeologist. Of course, you would see me in a museum, dear."

Barbara made a faint smile and got what Diana was really saying. "Just don't cause a big mess."

"You're really strict now. You used to be livelier than this."

"I guess I've matured."

"You have turned into a beautiful woman." Diana held both of Barbara's arms and felt it. "A diligent woman worthy of being called an Amazon warrior."

"That's high praise, princess." Barbara replied with a smile. "Meanwhile, you haven't changed."

"Only on the outside, Barbara..." She made a smile that carried loneliness behind it. "Anyways, I want to meet your new champion."

"?" Barbara tilted her head. "Oh, you mean..."

"That's right." Diana made a faint smile.

"What for?"

"I feel like I have have a say if he is worthy of Bruce's title."

"Even Superman recognizes him." Barbara said.

"Superman..." Diana made a troubled expression mixed with hate. "Please don't mention him to me again."

"Oh. S-sorry." Barbara was frightened a little bit by the Amazon Princess' scowl.

"No worries." Diana waved it off and fixed her expression to a friendly one like before. "So, can you set up a meeting for me with him."

"You can meet him now." Barbara said before looking towards the bar where Terry was talking to his friends.

Terry noticed her and proceeded to walk up to them.

Diana's face slowly turned into shock and awe as Terry drew nearer.

When Terry arrived to where they are, he got a bit awkward as Diana was still staring at him.

"Terry, this is Diana Prince. Diana, Terrence McGinnis."

Diana quickly grabbed Terry's face.

"?!"

Terry and Barbara were shocked by the sudden action of Diana.

"Um-" Terry tried to say something but Diana turned Terry's face. Terry didn't even get to fight it.

"So...uncanny..."

Then, Barbara finally realized the reason for Diana's reaction. "They have their differences but he does look like him. He's Bruce's biological son."

"?" Diana widened her eyes at Barbara then, removed her hands on Terry's face. "Sorry."

Terry turned to Barbara who just revealed a major secret to a person he doesn't know. "Barbara..."

"It's okay...she was once part of the league."

There were many people that had already left the Justice League since it was established so, Terry wouldn't be able to guess who Diana was easily.

"She's here on personal business. Or so she says." Barbara said.

"You still doubt. I'm telling the truth."

"We'll see..."

BOOM!!!

The entrance of the museum suddenly exploded.

Out of the smoke and debris, multiple armed men came forward.

"Everybody! Get on the ground! Now! This is a robbery! Bring us the eye of anubis!!!" One of the armed men said.

Terry turned to face Barbara and Diana to ask permission to leave, but when he turned, Diana already wasn't there.

Looking at Terry's helpless face, Barbara felt the need to explain. "She already left. Stand back and watch for once. Let's let her handle this.

"I said! Bring the eye of anubis out now-!!"

The man shouting was suddenly pulled by a golden lasso and got thrown onto a wall.

A woman with black hair and a gorgeous face wearing golden bracers and a tiara stood up on a table to make her presence known.

"Surrender now." She said with a commanding tone.

Terry turned around to face Barbara with amazement.

"She's Wonder Woman." said Barbara.
