Chapter 2: The Good Devil

The serene view of the grassy plains in the outskirt of the village was replaced the billowing smoke coming from the burnt wood and flesh, the smell of death penetrated the air, the villagers and militia men were desperately trying to stop the rampage of the goblin horde.

The village chief and several militia men were swinging their swords tirelessly, as the village chief cut another one of the goblins, a young man ran towards him and said breathlessly, "Chief! There's another horde coming from the forest, I can't count all of them but based on their size they are around at least a thousand!"

The village chief turned pale, "Hurry and evacuate the villagers, women, children and old are to escape in the main exit with several armed men, the rest will hold the goblins as long as we can, also send a messenger to the next village and to the lord earl."

The young man left, following the orders of the chief. The battle continued with more ferocious goblins coming from the forest, the villagers was easily overwhelmed, a goblin manage to sneak in the ranks of militia men and dash towards the village chief, a crude knife impaled the village chief on his left shoulder, the village chief grunted but fired back swinging the short sword with his right hand beheading the goblin.

More and more goblins poured inside the village, the village chief and his men were exhausted and demoralized, as the horde slowly killed men after men, a wave of intensely hot flame shoot towards the horde of goblins, the poor creatures screamed the flames engulfed and consumed them, their flesh getting melted and charred.

Two more waves of fire blazes shoot towards the goblin horde, the ridiculously large blaze of flame burned the entire goblin horde, the villagers and the chief were baffled, but quickly recovered as they pushed back the goblin remnants, after ten more minutes, the entire goblin horde was neutralized, piles of charred and ashes from the goblins littered across the once peaceful outskirts.

The village then looked outside of the village walls, there on a small hill, handsome young man stood, a scarred face, red eyes and dark hair, wearing a set of red tunic clothes and a dark green cape, there were also other people with him, a butler, two maids and three guards, without a second thought, the village chief and several men approached the group.

...

Klaus and his group was about to the approach the settlement Albert pointed to him, however, when they finally saw the village what they saw was an ongoing carnage as more than a thousand of short and ugly green creatures were besieging the village, the creature itself was weak but when the goblins bonded together, they are pretty much a problem, if your weak that is.

Since the villagers were crucial for information, Klaus deiced to help them as he manifest his fire magic and using three [Firestorm] spell, the goblin horde were utterly incinerated.

"I apologize for the inconvenience Lord Klaus, it seems I have kicked out these goblins too far from their den thus they reached the village." Albert bowed deeply and apologized for his mistake.

Klaus waved his hand, "It's fine, Albert. It already happen, aside from the small inconvenience we can still ask them for information now that I cleared the horde, and oh look at that, they are now approaching us."

He pointed to the group of armed men and an old man, the village chief arrived at the group, he quickly bowed deeply as a sign of respect, "On behalf of the Arya village, I thank you kind sir for your help, if you did not killed the goblin horde with your powerful magic, we would be facing certain death right now."

"No problem, we happen to cross this village anyway and the goblins will block our way." Klaus patted the shoulder of the old man.

The village chief smiled, "Oh where are my manners, I am Carl Gaston, the village chief, please let be our guess Sir?"

"Klaus Crimson, we shall accept your hospitality Chief Carl."

Carl then guided Klaus and his group, they had to step off the carriage as the path towards the village entrance was blocked by the pile of goblin mess, Klaus as they entered the gate stumbled upon a large village, the village was circular in nature, there rows of wooden houses for common folk and some stoned house for those who afford it, despite the carnage brought by the goblin, only the front part of the gate was destroyed sparing many houses and lives.

They walk on the main road of the village, heading straight for the village chief's residence, they then reached their destination, the chief's house was much larger than the others, it was a two story building made out of a mixture of wood and stone. The small manor was designed to house guests and delegates.

Before the group entered the house, the village chief issued his orders first to begin the cleaning operation and returning the evacuated villagers from their homes.

Klaus and his group then found themselves gathered in the manor's dining room, they were served by the servants with modest food such as boiled whole chicken, some beverages, fruits and pastry.

"I apologize for the lack of fancy food on the table Sir Klaus, we were originally preparing to welcome a delegate from the Earl of Barlowleigh for the official recognition of our village as a town since we now house more than 2,000 people."

"It is fine Chief Carl, this hospitality is much appreciated, we could also not bother you anymore after what you went to." The group then proceed to have talks here and there while enjoying the food served for them.

"By the way Sir Klaus, I don't want to delve too much to you personally, but are you perhaps a nobleman?" Carl asked.

Klaus shook his head, "No, I'm not, you see, were travelers from a foreign land faraway from here, my family fell from the conflict in our country, I'm the last one of our family members and these people with me are my servants who I also consider my family now."

Believing the fabricated story of Klaus, Carl quickly apologized, "Oh I'm sorry about that Sir Klaus!"

Klaus chuckled, "Don't worry about it, Chief Carl, it has already happened, what I only concerned about is where do we seek asylum, I am in need of crucial information right now, perhaps you could help us Chief Carl?"

"Sure thing, I own some books that may include some information you ask, as for the other I will just tell you, for now, you should rest, you are free to spend your time here in my humble house."

For the next three days, Klaus and his butler spend the time learning about the place they currently in and information about the world.
