Chapter 1: Prologue

Sitting in his office, the ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick is preparing some plans for the future. Ainz Ooal Gown was his name, though some knew him as Momonga because such was how others called him before. This being who was feared by many wore a jet-black academic gown adorned with golden and violet edges. His body was devoid of skin and flesh, showing no more than his bones. This red orb floating under his ribs emanated a feeling of dread. His eye sockets were empty, only a tiny dark red glow could be seen radiating from there. This undefeated being has been titled, The Overlord.

The place was quiet, no sound could be heard. Well, except the noise of papers that were moved around. This silence remained until a knock on the door was heard by the ruler.

"Enter." Informed the undead.

When these words exited The Overlord's mouth, an impeccable beauty came in. It was Albedo. She had lustrous jet-black hair and the face of a goddess. With her golden irises, vertical pupils and those two horns protruding crookedly from her temples. She had two black angel wings on her waist and wore a pure white dress with silky gloves and a golden spiderweb necklace covering her shoulders and chest.

The woman advanced towards her lord's desk, kneeled and said. "Ainz-sama, I had an outrageous thought. Just thinking about it again is... unbearable. Please forgive me." and started to cry.

"Now, now, calm down, Albedo. Tell me what it is." the skeleton responded.

"I-I can't... these words cannot be heard by your grace. I deserve death!" She said, putting her weapon at her throat, ready to slice.

"Wait! Stop." were the words that exited the undead mouth before entering the succubus' ears, which made her stop and look up with teary eyes.

"Tell me what is wrong, then I will decide." he said.

*Few Moments of Silence*

"W-Well, you see... I-I wondered; what would happen if Ainz-sama were to die in battle? These thoughts are a disgrace, never should I be allowed to live after those." she informed.

"Albedo... you shouldn't concern yourself about such things. Ainz Ooal Gown never knew defeat and this won't change." the undead said, which made the succubus a little better.

"Y-Yes, of course!" she said and asked, "D-Do you... still love me, Ainz-sama?".

"Well–" Ainz was going to answer the question, but the door slammed open to reveal two dark elves.

The first being, Aura Bella Fiora, is a dark elf with pointed ears, dark skin, golden hairs and heterochromia eyes (one blue and one green). The elf is equipped with a whip around her waist and a big decorated bow on her back, as well as a watch given by Ainz with her creator's voice recorded in it. She wears reddish-black dragon scaled leather covered by a white and gold vest with the sigil of Ainz Ooal Gown. She also has a matching set of white trousers and gold-plated shoes, with an acorn necklace emitting golden light. Not only that, but she is a tomboyish looking child.

Aura was followed by her brother, Mare Bello Fiore. He is a dark elf with pointed ears, dark skin, golden hairs and heterochromia eyes (one blue and one green). The elf wears a forest green cloak over a blue dragon scale leather full-body suit covered by a white and gold vest with the sigil of Ainz Ooal Gown. He has a matching short white skirt and an acorn necklace emitting silver light. Outside Nazarick, people mistake him for a girl, because of the clothes and appearance he has.

When entering the office, Aura said, "Ainz-sama, we have... an... emergency?"

Albedo and Ainz turned their head to look at the elves.

"Did we interrupt something?" she asked.

"N-No, tell me, what is this emergency you spoke of?" Ainz asked.

"Well, there are imps attacking Carne Village." she said.

"Lupusregina is supposed to be guarding it, so why bother me with this?" the skeleton demanded.

"S-She isn't here now, m-my lord. You s-sent her on a q-quest yesterday, and she is supposed to come back to-tomorrow." the timid Mare informed.

"I see... Well, Albedo?" the undead spoken, tuning his head toward the guardian.

"Yes, Ainz-sama." she said, stood, bowed, and left to help the villagers with the two dark elves.

*Carne Village, Few Moments Later*

It was chaos. The village was on fire, people were running around, screaming and cursing. There were about 75 imps left, the goblin seemed to have already killed around the same amount. Imps are 30 centimeters tall, copper-red skinned demons with a tail and long bat-like wings. There are quite intelligent creatures, capable of following complex orders, so why would they attack the village? Rather, who sent them to attack the village?

Albedo arrived at the scene with the two siblings in tail. She was wearing her typical black full plate armor with her battleaxe in hand. As for the siblings, their equipment didn't change.

The trio advanced towards the commotion, engaging the fight. Albedo swung her battleaxe here and there, while Aura threw punches and Mare spells. The number of imps was drastically decreasing. Not much of a fight for the three, more like a warm-up.

"Mare, go heal the injured villager." ordered Albedo. Even though she doesn't like humans, at all, Ainz asked her to protect the village, thus she obliged. Having too many casualties won't make the ruler happy, and Albedo can't stand a disappointed Ainz. A dagger piercing through her heart, that is what it is when her Ainz-sama is disappointed in her.

Mare nodded and headed towards the refuge. Some villagers died, though the number of casualties was somehow low. However, the number of injured was high. For a village with a few hundred people, more than fifty 'serious' injuries represented an important number.

While Mare was doing his job, Aura and Albedo finished with the imps. There are now only 3 demons left, which is why they are attempting to flee. However, Albedo had other plans, she caught the trio and killed two with a swift slash of her weapon and kept the last one alive for interrogation. She looked at the imp through her helmet with a piercing glare that could send shivers down an almighty god's pine. The imp was trembling in fear and anticipation. It knew that it couldn't flee.

"Tell me, now, demon. Why did you attack the village?" Albedo asked, still with her piercing glare.

The imp spoke in an in-comprehensive language that the succubus seemed to understand. The demon responded to Albedo's question in a somewhat vague manner. 'The devil asked, thus we obliged. Everything is written in the book retracing the story of the almighty god.' it said before killing itself with its poisonous tail. Albedo didn't seem amused by this, on the contrary, in fact, she was enraged. This lowly being's words made no sense.

"Aura, let's finish with–" Albedo started, but got disturbed by the reflection of the light. "Huh?" she said, unconsciously.

"Yes?" the elf asked, "Is something that matter?" she added, after seeing that the succubus was watching the river for an unknown reason.

"Not at all, go help your brother, I will arrive later." she said, earning a nod from the guardian before she left her alone.

Albedo was watching the source of the reflection. In normal circumstances, she wouldn't mind, but she was somehow attracted to whatever was there. Thus, slowly, but surely, she was walking towards the source, close to the river.
