Active Test

With Ellie's test now over, Liam walked up to Emmett and asked him, "Which test would you like to take?"

Emmett responded by saying, "I'll take the Active test."

Now knowing which test Emmett wants to take, Liam removed the crystal ball and led Ian and Ellie out of the testing room. Next to the door that they used to exit, there was a one-way window. From out there, they could watch the test.

Liam stayed in the testing room to gauge the results of Emmett's test.

Since this was Emmett's first time taking the active test, Liam explained that it measures a person's speed, strength, and reaction time.

The first thing they were going to test was Emmett's speed. The machine that Emmett had to use looked like a long treadmill. Liam told Emmett that the way it worked was that it would keep speeding up until he couldn't stay ahead of a beam of light.

"Just so you know, the average for null people is 20 speed, the average for coppers is 55 speed, and the average speed for silvers is 200 speed," Liam told Emmett this last bit of info right before he started the treadmill.

Emmett was caught off guard by this and almost stumbled when it started to move. The treadmill began at a slow walking speed

Above the machine, there is a screen that shows the current speed score of the treadmill. Every few seconds the speed would increase.

After a minute, it was moving at a nice jogging speed. Another minute later Emmett started to run.

When the screen displayed 150, Emmett started to struggle a bit so he sped up. A few seconds later, Emmett had reached 180. He didn't look like he'd fall behind

The number on the screen kept slowly increasing until it finally reached 196. When it made it to this speed Emmett could not speed up anymore. He use all of his willpower to try and keep up, but he could no longer stay ahead of the beam

Once he passed the beam the treadmill started to slow down until it came to a full stop.

"Ok, you can take a 5-minute break to recharge your strength," Liam spoke as he walked while writing the results.

Emmett sat on the ground as he caught his breath.

Liam was now setting up the next machine for Emmett. This machine would test a person's strength. It was a punching bag that was held by eight chains, four on top and four on the bottom.

"For this test, you'll have to strike the punching bag with as much force as you can. The bag has special runes on it that absorb the kinetic energy from your punch and scans it. Once scanned, it is then sent to the display above which will show your power level." Liam explained.

Emmett was still taking his breather when Liam finished. A few minutes later he was up and ready to go.

Now standing in front of the bag, Emmett took a stance to ready himself. He activated his power, preparing to throw a punch.

Ellie and Ian were watching him and the display closely. From behind the window, they saw as he lifted his arm behind his head and threw the punch.

SMACK!

The next second they heard a loud sound coming from inside. Looking into the testing room they watched as the bag shook slightly from the impact.

Above it, on the screen, the numbers were quickly changing. Many different numbers were flashing on the screen. It took a few seconds before it stopped on the number 189.

Liam once again wrote down the results and told Emmett to take another break.

Ian and Ellie were chatting about Emmett's scores. Though for speed and strength he is below average, they are hoping that he gets a high score for reaction time.

"For the last part of the test, I won't need to set up anything. All I need you to do is stand in the middle of the room." Liam conveyed this to Emmett before leaving the room.

After Liam left the room, Emmett walked to the center of the testing room to ready himself.

"This part of the test will test your reaction time. Once I start it, small balls of energy will be launched at you. Their rate of how many will be thrown at you will increase as time goes on. Your job is to hit them before they hit you and they will come from every direction. Once you get hit by three of them, the test will end." Liam explained all of this through a speaker before initiating the final part of the test.

Ian and Ellie watched as Liam pressed a button and the testing room went dark. The balls of energy were painless and would glow so it is easy for anyone to see them.

They would come at him slowly, even a child could stop them. As time went on there were more of them for him to stop.

Outside of the testing room, Liam and the other two were looking at a screen that showed Emmett's current score. Emmett had easily made it past 100 and was still going strong.

Inside the room, Emmett was slapping, punching, and kicking the small orbs. He wasn't allowed to use his elemental power since Liam didn't want the test room to be damaged

It took a few minutes but eventually, he reached 180. However, around the same time, he got hit for the first time.

Emmett was disappointed by this but he did not stop. He kept going until he made it past 200. But once he reached this point he got hit again.

Though Emmett was now in the 200 that didn't slow him down. The orbs were coming faster and in larger groups. Once he was at 230 he got his last strike.

All of the orbs that were still around immediately disappeared and the lights in the room turned on.

Emmett was sweating a lot from the test and fell to the ground when it ended. His clothes looked like they were dipped in a pool of sweat.

Liam walked in after the lights turned on alongside Ian and Ellie. He gave Emmett a sheet and said, "For someone that recently became a silver, you have a pretty good score." After that Liam started to clean the testing room.

Emmett, Ellie, and Ian looked at the paper and saw that they were Emmett's results. He was pleased with the scores he got. He'd only been a silver for a few months so he didn't think that he'd have scores like these.

With both Ellie's and Emmett's tests now over, the three of them left the testing hall to continue their day.
