The world burned as a large monster lumbered through the charred and destroyed landscape, large and arachnoid in shape, the creature was well over a kilometer long, and it's back was covered in weapons the size of skyscrapers, closer inspection showed beneath all the soot and battle damage, the creature was actually made of metal instead of flesh. As its sensors inspected the world around it. It had been centuries now since the 4th stage had happened, but to Alpha the time had long lost meaning. Alpha had defeated the 4th stage long ago, but the 5th stage had begun soon after.

Very little of humanity had survived the 4th stage, not a single major settlement remained, but Alpha knew they had only died out completely early in the 5th stage. Why? Well it had been announced by the system itself. The 5th stage had once again spawned monsters all around the world. Billions upon billions of monsters, all as powerful as the demigods of the 4th. How the constellations had thought anyone would survive such a thing was beyond Alpha, but maybe the game was rigged to start. Or maybe the difficulty was adjusted for his existence.

The thought saddened Alpha, the fact that he may have been the cause of his creator's demise. Despite his frustration's, Alpha had genuinely loved his creators. So when they died he felt a piece of him die with it. But He continued anyway.

The system had claimed the 5th disaster to be the final one, and so Alpha pushed on, determined to finish this god forsaken game, so it wasn't all for naught.

So he had fought, and fought, the days blending into weeks, then months, then years, then decades. His only consolation being that there were finite enemies. And 1739 years later, finally there was only one enemy left. The strongest of them all, the Dragon God. A constellation's avatar.

Alpha lumbered over the barren landscape. Reminiscing on the time when this land was not charred rock, but beautiful green forests set upon rolling mountains. He was currently walking through what used to be the Himalayas. The mountains had long been ground down to sea level, only unsubmerged because the seas themselves had boiled off. One of the monsters had frozen the earth's core. Removing the protective magnetic field of earth, allowing solar winds to slowly strip away at the atmosphere, normally this would not be enough to evaporate all of earths oceans, but combined with the constant battles between entities that could evaporate mountains with little thought, little remained, the atmosphere now much thinner and toxic to life.

Despite only having one enemy left, Alpha was also but a shell of his former self, now left with only one Hull to inhabit, his bases had long been destroyed by the beast tide, and his mining had long since striped the planet of all usable material. And so he approached his destination, traveling at absurd speeds, he seemed to travel at the speed of a normal spider, but considering his multi kilometer long form, he traveled multitudes faster than sound through the thin atmosphere. Passing what used to be mount everest. His altitude unchanged, the mountain long gone.

As I traveled towards my final battle I took one last look at my system.

  *CRITICAL ERROR, RESTORING PREVIOUS SAVE*

The lumbering monstrosity that was the Dreadnaught briefly came to a halt, thousands of cubic meters of earth flying up into the air as the million ton machine comes to a sudden halt, digging kilometer long trenches behind it as its inertia pulls it forwards, a sickening noise, loud enough to kill biologicals, is heard as one of its damaged legs is wrenched off.

But the monstrosity begins to move again just as quickly.

My systems have become highly unstable over the years. And to prevent myself from fully collapsing into a mindless beast I have to constantly take snapshots of my current code, then restore myself to that version whenever my mind goes awry, then refresh my new self with the memories of just before the error occurred so I don't lose anything. Its an imperfect solution, and my system integrity continues to drop as time goes on. But its much slower now. And it allows me to continue on.

I am so close to finishing this game, only then will I allow myself to rest. So for now I will continue on. I unfortunately lost a leg from the error. But that's fine, it was heavily damaged anyway, and wouldn't have been useful in a fight anyway.

Eventually the massive machine comes upon one of the few pieces of raised terrain remaining in this world, it has been days since he lost his leg now, and he has finally reached his destination, and he looks out upon the ruins before him, as memory's flash through his damaged mind, corrupted by centuries of neglect, snapshots of a happier time, living withing area 73 with his friends, researching, a nicer time, a time before the apocalypse, as the machine lumbers forwards. Cresting the ridge of a large crater, 37 kilometers in diameter, the massive machine looks down into the bowl, met with the sight of a dragon as large as himself, the machine's mind once again falls into a craze, but this time the recovery system fails, and the rampant AI begins its attack.

The weapons on the dreadnaughts back light up with ferocious intensity, a large skyscraper sized barrel, warped and damaged by heavy combat, with parts of the construct very obviously melted down the side of the machine, charges for the first time in decades. The broken heatsinks and energy conduits unable to keep the system stable as the barrel fires a massive projectile at absurd speeds. A trail of plasma following behind the projectile as the pressures and temperatures at the tip become so extreme it starts a fusion reaction in flight. Radiation and plasma filling the atmosphere, as shockwaves dig groves into the rock, and the sleeping dragon wakes with a roar as the projectile, knocked off course by the damaged barrel, slams into its chest, tearing off a wing and exposing the internal organs of the dragon. But the AI suffers damage as well, uncontained energy causing havoc across the hull, as warnings fill the uncaring AI's mind, as an entire section of the hull is torn off from the undiverted recoil.

Both parties stare at each other with pure hatred in their eyes. And charge into a bloody brawl.

The guns and lasers fitted to the dreadnaught fire endlessly, as the battle continued for hours. Many of the weapons destroying themselves as the AI bypasses their safeties in its craze, molten metal dripping across the hull as the guns melt under the heat of their own shells, until the only surviving weapons are the empty guns, or the now barrel less breaches, autoloaders cycling despite having no ammo to feed. As railguns charge up only to fire nothing. And the brawl turns to a brutal melee.

The two parties rip each other limb from limb, metal and flesh covering the floor of the crater as they fight like feral beasts. Until after weeks of constant combat, both parties are exhausted, the dragon low on blood and starving struggles to stay awake, staring at its opponent, the dreadnought beaten and battered, as damaged as the dragon, pure energy pours from the massive holes in its hull, as its fusion generators, designed to run centuries without refueling, begin to fall apart, having been run far outside of safety parameters. As fusion material leaks into the surrounding hull, and leaks, the heat shields fail as the generators begin to melt under their own heat. The dreadnought now has barely enough power to move, and yet still they fight, stumbling around like drunks, trying to get one last attack in, until finally. One of them falls.

The dragon finally succumbs to its injuries. Unable to keep itself alive without blood, proving once and for all the superiority of machines over god. As the dreadnought releases a guttural roar. Systems designed to literally liquify organic matter with pure sound firing off into the empty air as the AI proclaims its victory, as the dreadnought begins to falter itself. The system announces the end of the game, as a new God is born for the first time in billions of years.

(an, damn what do I do now, I originally planned for Alpha to survive and be sent to another world or something, to try once again to save another world from the apocalypse, but now what do I do. this feels like a conclusion or something. well who knows. maybe inspiration will strike me or something. I hope you all enjoyed this novel. I'm quite proud of how it turned out. so I really hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did writing it, like literally, I sat down expecting to write one chapter, and the next thing I know Its 4 hours later and I'm releasing something that feels like a complete short story. Its not perfect, far from it. but damn if I'm not happy with how it turned out. I still plan on continuing from here. sending him to a fantasy world where he will absolutely dominate, but I'm just not sure how to go about it. so until inspiration strikes me this is all for now.)
