The Beginning [I]

In the vast space of the universe, a medium-sized spaceship named Raven, was traveling at a medium pace. It was a common model in the Golden Empire. Most middle-class noble families would have such a spaceship for daily use, especially for short-distance travel purposes.

The owner of the spacecraft, Baron Wilbur Raven, was staying guard over his pregnant wife, Laura while their six-year-old daughter, Angel, was watching the starry sky outside through the dark window in the observation room of the spacecraft.

"Honey, are you feeling better now?" Wilbur asked his wife in a lower tone.

"I feel much better. I thought the baby was coming just now." The wife replied softly.

"How can I be so careless? I should have known better." Looking at his wife's pretty face, Wilbur felt a dull pain in his heart, and said self-reproachingly. "You shouldn't be in space, giving birth, but in a proper hospital."

"It's not your fault, Wilbur. You know, this decision was made by the two of us together. So you don't need to blame yourself. When we made this decision, I had already thought about the current situation in advance." The wife comforted her husband in a low voice. .

"I understand, but I could have done better." Wilbur leaned over and kissed his wife on the forehead. "You must rest for a while, and don't worry, I'll be staying by your side."

Laura slowly closed her eyes, the labor pain just now was really unbearable, but she knew that only the beginning. With her current situation, she was certain the child was about to be born, and she needed to reserve enough strength.

Although Wilbur Raven was a baron, he only inherited the title. It was hereditary in the empire. But to the aristocratic class of the Golden Empire, for thousands of years, a baron represented the common people.

Initially, the Wilbur family lived in New Athens, the capital of the Alpha system. To continue the tradition of his ancestors, Wilbur wanted to find a job in the capital, in the government department, but since his father's death, his pretentious uncles now regarded Wilbur as a stranger, and no one was willing to help him find a good job for him to have a successful life in the capital.

Seeing that his inheritance was almost spent, Wilbur accepted the advice of his cousin who was living on the planet Meruta 3 on the edge of the Alpha Galaxy and decided to move his family to Meruta 3 to become a manor owner there.

Before leaving, Wilbur had already remitted the remaining inheritance to his cousin, asked him to purchase a manor on his behalf, and then boarded the Raven with his wife and children. The only non-family member following them was Bob, the old butler who had served the Raven family for almost fifty years.

They would be traveling in The Raven, a spacecraft that belonged to Wilbur's father, Old Baron Raven. In the old Baron Raven era, The Raven was a very fashionable aircraft. The black shell and streamlined body looked like a soaring raven from a distance.

Unfortunately, during Wilbur's time, the Raven had become the most ordinary of the spaceships. Compared to the current, most advanced aircraft, the speed of The Raven was nothing to write home about. However, Wilbur was still very satisfied with the spacecraft. At least it was privately owned spaceship. Although the speed was half-way slower than the more advanced spacecraft, their family were not in a hurry to reach their destination.

Since they were traveling slowly in the universe, they could also enjoy the beauty of the cosmos. At least Wilbur's wife and children didn't have to join the line of many civilians on public flights.

Due to its speed, the Raven flew in space for about nine months at a speed of one-third the speed of light, and passed the last transfer station ten days ago. Meruta 3 star would be appearing soon.

Laura found out she was pregnant shortly after boarding the spacecraft. Wilbur suggested returning to New Athens and waiting for Laura to give birth before heading to Planet Meruta 3, but Laura insisted otherwise. Now that she was about to give birth, the labor pains were three times more than before. But for her comfort, the medical robots on the spacecraft were getting ready to aid her.

Wilbur didn't know when he fell asleep. He was awakened by his wife's cries. Laura felt labor pains again, and this time she was actually going into labor. The medical robots and nursing robots on the spacecraft were busy, and related preparations were also being carried out in an orderly manner.

The entire birth process was relatively smooth by the set standards. During this period, Wilbur sat beside his wife's bed, holding her right hand tightly with both hands, and saying "come on!" to his wife from time to time. Looking at his wife's painful appearance during childbirth, Wilbur also felt distressed.

Fortunately, Laura was not giving birth for the first time, so she had some experiences. Finally, nearly an hour later, a loud baby cry spread throughout the medical bay. A boy was born.

Wilbur took the child from the medical robot with great excitement, and held the baby in front of his wife. Looking at the crying baby boy in front of them, Laura and Wilbur looked at each other and smiled knowingly.

"Oh! I have a little brother!" Little Angel shouted excitedly when she saw the baby. "What's his name?"

"We'll call him Linley. This is your grandfather's name." Wilbur looked at his wife and said to his daughter, and his wife smiled and nodded.

"Hey, little brother, did you hear that? Your name is Linley." Little Angel said to his brother.

Little Linley seemed to have heard what his sister said. He clapped his hands and cried louder than before, as if he was also expressing his happiness.

"Master, on this memorable day, please allow me to take a photo of everyone!" Bob, the old butler, came to Wilbur with his camera.

"Of course, and you too, Bob. Let's take a photo together as a family."

With a click, the family's happy smiling faces were permanently printed on the picture.

When the family was immersed in joy, suddenly, the spacecraft's alarm sounded a piercing siren sound.

Wilbur quickly rushed to the intercom in the cabin and said, "Control Center, what's happening?"

"Alert, a large warship was spotted in front of us at 2 o'clock. After identification, it is the pirate ship Phantom, which is wanted by the aviation center. The spaceship has discovered our location and an encounter is expected in 15 minutes!"

"Ah! Pirates!"

"Oh, God, this is bad."

"Yea, it's really bad."

After hearing the cold reply from the computer in the control center, the family fell from the peak of joy to the depths of despair in seconds.

"What do we do?!" Laura asked in apprehension.
