With that, Rael entered the chamber alone, his sword hidden behind his back. He put on his most convincing act, approaching Donovan and the guards with a friendly smile.
"Hey there," Rael greeted them casually. "I heard you guys might need some help. We've been surviving out there, and we thought we could join forces."
The men were quickly alarmed seeing someone appear so suddenly inside the gymnasium.
Donovan, a burly man with a stern expression, eyed Rael suspiciously. "Who the fuck are you?"
Rael quickly concocted a story. "I'm Rael, and I'm here with my friends, Maria and Ron. We've been navigating this place for a while and figured it's safer to stick together. We heard you might know a way out of here."
Luckily for Rael, no one seemed to know Ron, since the guy himself said he was here to visit someone before the Apocalypse began. But then things weren't normal anymore, and Ron was thrown into this new apocalyptic world, his luck was that some guards saved him. But they were now dead, killed by Rael…
The guards exchanged glances, uncertain. "How can we trust you?" one of them asked.
Rael's response was interrupted by a sudden crash from behind him. A group of zombies had stumbled into the chamber, attracted by the noise. Without hesitation, Rael drew his sword and lunged at the approaching undead, swiftly dispatching them one by one in a matter of seconds.
Donovan and the guards watched in awe as Rael demonstrated his combat skills.
"Impressive," Donovan finally admitted. "Maybe we can use someone like you."
Rael hid his triumphant grin. It seemed that his plan to infiltrate Donovan's group was working. Now, they are one step closer to achieving their goal of eliminating the guards and securing some food for the moment they will escape from the prison.
Rael's plan was very simple, he was going to wait until some zombies made their apparition, before reaping the guards from behind, in total silence.
Some may say he was devious, or had an evil mind, but what wouldn't one do for his survival?
Would some stranger's life affect Rael so much as to drive him into a sea of guilt and despair? If someone asked him, he would answer with a definite 'no'.
As Rael continued to gain Donovan and the guards' trust, he kept a watchful eye on the chamber's entrance. His plan was simple: wait for the perfect moment when the zombies would make their appearance. The chaos and distraction they would bring would be his opportunity to eliminate the guards without a sound, securing his group's escape.
The chamber grew tenser with every passing moment. Rael had to maintain his friendly façade while being prepared for the impending danger. Just as he had hoped, the ominous groans and shuffling footsteps of the undead grew louder, echoing through the corridors.
'They're here. Perfect.' His eyes gleamed with a ferocious glint in them, Rael was ready to bring doom not only to the zombies, but to Donovan and his group as well.
Suddenly, over a hundred zombies poured into the gymnasium, their hollow eyes fixed on the living. The guards panicked, realizing they were now vastly outnumbered. Donovan shouted orders to his men, instructing them to hold the line and protect the civilians.
Rael's moment had arrived. While the guards were preoccupied with the relentless horde of zombies, he moved with deadly precision, drawing his sword and silently approaching the unsuspecting guards from behind. In the midst of the chaos, Rael struck swiftly and efficiently, taking down several guards without them even realizing the danger they were in.
As the guards fell one by one, Rael couldn't afford to keep an eye on Maria and Ron anymore.
Survival in this situation had forced his hand a bit too much, and he had no intention of letting anything stand in the way of his ambition.
Amidst the screams, groans, and clashes of steel with undead flesh, Rael continued his silent assault, making sure that every guard who posed a threat was neutralized. His friends, Maria and Ron, fought alongside him.
In the end, Rael knew that the world they now lived in demanded a certain level of cunning and ruthlessness. As he made his way among tens of dead bodies, Rael could only hope that there won't be any mishap occurring.
'What are those?' Much to his delight, Rael spotted a few zombies that were completely different from the others.
They were a bit taller and bulkier than normal zombies, but what caught his attention was their skin.
Most of the bullets that came in contact with the zombie's skin were repelled.
"Fall back! Throw grenades!" Donovan quickly organized his men, and not only that, he even ordered them to launch grenades at this new type of zombie.
"No! Wait! Leave them to me!" Left without any choice, Rael was forced to step forward and personally take care of these dangerous undeads.
He didn't want to lose his XP after all.
"What are you doing?! They're too dangerous, go back and wait for us to-" Donovan's words were stuck in his throat when he saw how easily Rael managed to cut one of the zombies that couldn't even be hurt by bullets.
'Is he a monster too?!' Not daring to believe his eyes, Donovan raised his hand and stopped his men from throwing up their grenades at Rael who was basically their only vanguard right now.
There were a few guards amongst those remaining who could fight the zombies with a weapon, they were those who had an idea about the System they received.
But the majority of the guards were still 'normal' people who only put their trust into the gun in their hands.
After quickly finishing the most dangerous mutated zombies, Rael pretended to be tired and got behind the guards.
Donovan quickly approached him, "That was amazing! You're a true talent. It's a pity that old folks like me can't be even half as good as you are."
"Thank you for your praise. Just let me catch my breath for a few minutes before I'll help you guys kill the rest of the zombies."
Said Rael, his earlier remark also implied that he won't back down after this, and would instead continue to kill their common enemy.
"Haha! There's no need to worry about that! Since the most dangerous zombies are dead, we can take our time dealing with the others."
Seeing Donovan turning his back to him and going back to command the guards, Rael finally had time to check his System, he seemed to have received a weird notification.
(Ding! You're the first human to kill over a 1000 zombies! New title received.)
(Ding! Congratulations on receiving a new title) - [Slayer]
Since it was known that curiosity killed the cat, Rael quickly checked his new gains.
[Slayer] - +1 to all attributes when equipped, experience received and damage dealt when fighting a mutant or zombie is increase by 10%.
'This shit is good!' Exclaimed Rael inwardly. He was very eager to try his new title against the zombies, but he couldn't.
He was forced to stay back for a while and recover.
This was tugging at Rael's heartstrings, to see so much XP wasted didn't sit well with him.
