Chapter 142: Eliminate the Target
Creak~!
The door opened, and the room was dimly lit.
Roch yawned and said, "Prepare some bathwater. I'm going to get a good rest tonight."
There was no response from behind him, but the footsteps coming in were more than one person's.
Roch suddenly became alert.
Looking up, he saw three figures slowly walking in.
They weren't Wen Mansa or his subordinates—just unfamiliar strangers.
Roch's heart skipped a beat, but he forced himself to stay calm, slowly rising as he said, "Gentlemen, coming to the Spikes Gang, is there something you wish to discuss?"
"Chief Roch doesn't recognize me?" Wu Heng asked with a smile, as Barson closed the door behind him.
"And you are?" Roch squinted his eyes.
"Well, Chief Roch sure has a short memory. Gone for a few days and you've already forgotten about me," Wu Heng continued.
Roch's expression changed, "You're that guy from Squad 12... no, you're not..."
"Were you about to say I didn't notice you? Do you think you could've come back if I hadn't pretended like nothing happened?" Wu Heng smiled coldly.
Roch's face grew darker.
He had thought the other guy was just a greenhorn who wouldn't investigate further and would give up.
But he hadn't expected him to be this cunning, setting a trap to lure him back.
Forcing down the rising panic, Roch took a deep breath, forcing an ugly smile, and said, "Captain, it seems there's been a misunderstanding. I was deceived back then, and that's why I acted the way I did. Now that I know who you are and your strength, I wouldn't dare oppose you."
Wu Heng sat down on a nearby wooden chair, "Oh? Is that really what you think, Chief Roch?"
"Of course." Roch continued, "You're a captain in the Guild, and I'm just a small gang leader. How could I ever go against you? I hid away these past few days because I knew I was wrong."
Roch no longer carried himself like a gang leader, instead presenting a humble and meek appearance.
He painted Wu Heng as powerful and himself as weak.
"But didn't Fisher just discuss your next steps with you?" Wu Heng said again.
"Damn!" Roch cursed and suddenly lunged to the left, drawing an iron sword hidden in the cabinet, "You'll die here tonight!"
At this point, he had no way out.
The other side knew everything, and it was clear how this was going to end.
Today, only one of them would leave alive.
With a roar, he charged forward fiercely.
His momentum was brutal.
Bang~!
The sharp sound of a gunshot rang out. At less than three meters away, the hit was guaranteed.
As Roch screamed.
Blood spurted from his chest.
Bang bang bang~!
Three more shots followed, hitting his chest and abdomen.
Roch's face contorted, and he looked down at the blood pouring from his armor.
His teeth clenched.
He changed direction, rushing toward the door, shouting, "Where is everyone? Help! Where are the men outside?"
Bagdong quickly stepped in front of the door and delivered a powerful kick, sending Roch stumbling back.
At the same time, Barson moved in, circling behind Roch, stabbing a short blade into the gap below his armor at the waist.
"Ahh!" Roch screamed in pain, staggering even more.
The other side was fully prepared.
He had no chance of winning.
Roch collapsed to his knees, his face twisted in agony as he said, "It was all Fisher's idea! Go after him, spare me!"
"If you had been the one who won, would you spare me? Don't worry, Fisher will be joining you soon enough."
Bagdong stepped forward, about to finish him off.
Roch suddenly sprang up, gripping his iron sword again, and lunged at Wu Heng.
Barson blocked him, while Wu Heng calmly fired two more shots, hitting Roch in the body and head.
Roch's eyes widened with unwillingness as he collapsed to the ground.
"Strip him, search his body!"
Barson crouched down, removing his outer armor, and found a coin pouch containing two gold coins and several hundred silver coins.
Unexpectedly, he had quite a bit of money.
Creak~!
At that moment, the door opened, and Wen Mansa walked in.
She glanced at the body on the floor, her face paling slightly.
If she had been slower last time, she might have met the same fate as Roch.
"Master!" Wen Mansa called softly.
"Hmm."
"Some people were drawn by the noise, but I sent them away," Wen Mansa said as she stepped forward and clung to Wu Heng's arm.
It was probably the sound of gunshots that attracted them.
But in the outer district, it wasn't a big issue.
Gangs fighting at night wasn't uncommon, and as long as there was a plausible excuse, no one cared.
"Hmm. Now that Roch is dead, what's your plan?" Wu Heng asked, his arm still resting on her shoulder.
"I'll tell everyone Roch left again, and I'll temporarily take over leadership. Gradually, I'll replace some of his people with my own and gain control of the Spikes Gang," Wen Mansa replied.
Wu Heng nodded, "Alright, as long as you have a plan."
He glanced at the body again, "Drag him out to the yard."
Barson dragged the corpse to a patch of dirt in the courtyard.
Wu Heng cast [Raise Skeleton], and the flesh peeled away as a skeleton slowly stood up.
Wen Mansa's face paled further, and she instinctively took two steps back, hiding behind him.
Their contract relationship couldn't be erased, so her trust in him was ingrained.
[Skeleton Warrior (Level 10)]
Roch really was a Level 10 warrior.
Looking at the stats, they leaned toward strength and constitution—standard warrior attributes.
Nothing special about it.
Wu Heng explained, "I'm a necromancer. He's now my undead servant. Scared?"
"No, I've seen worse in the Spikes Gang. I'm not scared."
"Good. Then he'll stay by your side to protect you for now," Wu Heng said.
Wen Mansa glanced at the skeleton, then at Wu Heng, and softly asked, "Master, aren't you staying the night?"
Wu Heng pinched her cheek, "I have other things to take care of. Handle things here, and I'll come find you later."
"Alright, Master."
Wu Heng nodded and left with Barson and Bagdong.
Wen Mansa began cleaning up the traces left in the room.
......
The night deepened.
The sky was like a shroud, pitch black, with no light in sight.
Outside a residence in the inner district.
The Iron Guard Knights on patrol yawned as they passed by the building, gradually walking away.
A hand appeared out of the darkness.
It set down a censer with three burning incense sticks on the edge of the building.
Wisps of blue smoke curled up and drifted into the building.
This was a tool from the Spikes Gang called [Hallucinogenic Censer].
When the incense was burned and inhaled by living creatures for a certain period, it caused exhaustion and dulled the senses.
The smoke lingered for a while, and everything remained quiet.
The skeletal hand reappeared, lifting the iron sewer cover on the roadside.
Rustle rustle~!
The sound of countless feet crawling echoed.
In the next moment, a massive swarm of rats surged out of the sewer, flooding toward the building.
The swarm of rats poured into the building.
Soon after, there were the shrieks of rats and agonized screams.
Lights flickered on in the surrounding buildings.
After a short while, the screaming stopped, and the rats swarmed back out of the building, disappearing into the sewers.
The skeletal hand retrieved the censer.
Disappearing into the night.
......
Morning, at the scene of Fisher's death.
In the small room, Steward "Gomez" stood to the side, barely containing his anger.
"A senior captain dead in his own home." Gomez glared at the others, "This is an embarrassment to the entire Guild! How are you captains maintaining order?"
Across from him stood all the captains of the Guild.
They hung their heads, not daring to speak.
Early that morning, Wu Heng had been summoned to the scene.
Fisher's body was gruesome, as if it had been torn apart by countless mouths, covered in bite marks.
Fisher's death was gruesome, as if he had been torn apart by countless mouths, his entire body covered in dense bite marks.
Around him were remnants of animal flesh and fur.
A Guild captain dying like this.
It wasn't a proud moment.
If word got out, it would tarnish the Guild's reputation and authority.
However, the captains felt somewhat wronged by the Steward's scolding.
After all, maintaining order at night wasn't their responsibility—it was the job of the Iron Guard Mercenary Corps.
But with the Steward in a rage, no one dared to argue and risk making things worse.
Gomez continued, "Aside from the squads assisting the Knights in dealing with the 'Warhammer Gang,' the rest of you will investigate this incident. I expect detailed reports in three days, or you'll all lose a month's pay."
The captains exchanged quiet glances but remained silent.
Seeing them still standing there with their heads down, Gomez gritted his teeth and said, "Dismissed! Get to work."
The captains began to walk out.
Gomez turned his gaze toward one figure in particular.
"Wu Heng, stay behind."
