Chapter 23:Greg's POV

I couldn't bear to see her like this. I could see that whatever was happening was beyond her strength, but she was doing her best to cope. Taking her in my arms I felt that she was doing her best to contain her tears and I couldn't find the right words to comfort her. I felt helpless and I hate it. I wanted to help her, but I didn't know how. She broke away from me after a few minutes.

"I need to be alone for a while." it was not a very good idea for her to walk around alone in a hospital. She saw that I was going to protest and she brushed my arm and whispered. "I'll be fine." then she pulled away. I watched her go down the hall then closed the door behind me as I entered.

Bayron opened his eyes to see who it was.

"Where is she?" he asked me.

"She needs to be alone." I walked around the bed to sit on the chair.

"Thank you for watching over her." he says to me and I smile at him.

"Your daughter is an exceptional person. She really cares about you."

"I know it."

"Then why do you want to keep her from doing her duty as a daughter by taking care of you."

"Because that's not her duty, that's my duty."

"Yes, and I have no doubt that you have done it wonderfully forever. But now you are no longer able to do it."

"That doesn't mean I have to be a burden on her."

"You are her father, do you think she would be able to leave here leaving you in your condition?"

"I just want her to be able to live her life without worrying about my health problems. It's enough that she has to worry about buying the insulins which are way too expensive."

That's when I realized that was the reason for his two jobs.

"It is to your credit that you want to preserve her, and I understand that as a father you think it is the best thing to do. But also think of yourself, you need help , and who better to bring it to you than the person you mean the most to in the world. Please don't deprive her of that." he looked at me thoughtfully and hesitantly so I kept trying to persuade him. "Look, agree to go to Miami with her, and I promise you that I will make sure that your daughter does not put her life aside because of this." I hoped I had managed to convince him. So I got up. "I'll let you think about it." he nodded and I left.

I found Meghan sitting in the waiting room with a magazine in her hand. I walked over to her, she was lost in her thoughts. I walked towards her slowly and sat on the seat next to her without saying anything. She turned her head to look at me, we exchanged glances then she went back to her reading to which I was practically sure she hadn't read a single sentence. We stayed there without speaking. We were interrupted by a ringing telephone. She took it in her pocket, it was a video call so she picked up. From where I was sitting I saw Flo's face popping on the screen.

"Hey buddy, how are you?" he says as soon as she picks up. "Oh shit what is this face?"

"Old Bay refuses to come to Miami."

"Oh no, don't tell me that! With his stubbornness, that doesn't surprise me too much, but what are you planning to do?"

"I don't know, I'm still confused, maybe I'll start looking for a job here." I was following the conversation and I thought to myself that I had succeeded in convincing him.

"No No and No, I refuse that you leave me here alone"

"Believe me, I won't be doing this lightheartedly. But if he continues to persist w like this, I won't have any other choice."

"Be more stubborn than him, there's no way you're going back to live there. I have to leave you my lunch break is almost over."

"I'll keep you updated. Bye." then the connection was cut.

She turned and addressed me.

"I should go back to see him." and she got up.

"I am coming with you." I got up and followed her.

We entered the room, there was a nurse with her father. It was the one who thought she recognized me yesterday.

"There she is." Bayron says to the nurse. "Sweetheart, I was telling Gloria that I was going to live in Miami, she had lived there, she was suggesting me places to visit." when he said that, my first response was to look at Meghan. His eyes lit up as soon as he finished saying Miami. She was smiling so hard I had to curb my urge to kiss her on her dimples. She approached her father.

"That means you're okay to come with me." Bayron glanced behind his daughter to look at me then returned his attention to his daughter.

"I thought it would be a good opportunity to spend some time together." Meghan rushed to hug her father. The nurse stood aside, and smiled at the scene.

"Thank you Dad" she gave him a kiss on each of his dad's hands.

"It's going to be time for his dialysis. Are you going to stay with him?" asked the nurse.

"No! My daughter can't stand the sight of blood. You should go home and come back in the evening."

"I can wait for the session to end outside."

"Honey it's four hours. Plus Gloria will be there to keep me company and after the session I'll probably be very tired." then Bayron addressed me. "Do me a favor and get her out of here and don't come back until dark."

"You won't have to tell me that twice. Say goodbye to your father, and we'll go." I say to Meghan who rolled her eyes and hugged her father.

"Am I dreaming or does my father like you?" Meghan said with a smile once outside the bedroom.

"It's normal everyone likes me." I joked.

"Yes, I saw that. Gloria also only had eyes for you." she teased me as we got to the elevator.

"And I only had eyes for your smile." her smile faded and she blushed. The elevator opened, there were three nurses inside who looked at us. We entered and the elevator closed, silence reigned in the elevator. Until it reopened and the three nurses came out. Only the two of us were left . She didn't dared to look at me, what I had just said to her must have stayed on her mind. I felt the tension all over my body, and my urge to kiss her was greater than ever. I slipped my hand on her waist and pulled her against me, she jumped in surprise. Our eyes met, she was holding her breath and I saw the fire in her eyes, so I leaned towards her,my lips brushed hers and she closed her eyes. And then the sound of the elevator opening sounded, she broke away from me and walked out in front of me.

Damn that elevator!!
