Chapter 22

I blinked my eyes several times before waking up. That night was by far the best night I had spent in ages. I met his eyes as soon as my eyes were opened. We had slept tight in my childhood bed. And there I woke up my head on his chest.

"Hey you?" he said while raising my head to deposit a kiss on my lips.

"Good morning" I answered him and sat down. "How are you, did you manage to sleep on this small bed?"

"I slept very well." he sat down in his turn. He looked at me grinning, and then he kissed me. I closed my eyes and dwelled in the moment.

That's what we've been doing since yesterday when he decided to stay, we had not gone further than kissing, but each time that his lips touched mine, I felt like I was melting inside.

I don't know what was going to happen between us, if this was just an illusion I was making up. What I knew was that I needed it. And that it was doing me the greatest good. I have decided to shut down the voice that kept on telling me that what we were doing was insane.

We were interrupted by the doorbell. I kept my eyes closed as our lips separated.

" That must be Sean" he told me.

He had sent him the address to bring him a change of clothes.

"I'll go." Then he got out of bed. He had kept his jeans and T-shirt he wore the day before.

I stayed there wondering what was happening to me, usually I was not that kind of girl who gives in easily to her impulses. But now it was as if he had a power over me, which made it impossible for me to resist him. At the same time, how could I have resisted him with the way he was gentle and considerate with me.

"Meghan" he called me from downstairs. That was the first time I've heard him say my name. I smiled stupidly and got out of the bed and ran up the stairs, stepping over them one by one and into the living room.

I was surprised when I saw Drew standing next to Greg at the entrance.

"Drew!! what are you doing here? Did something happen to dad?" I did not expect to see him so, the only thing that crossed my mind was that he was bringing me bad news.

"No, your father is fine." he reassured me. "I just dropped by on my way home to see if you needed something"

"Aaah" I glanced at Greg who was glaring at Drew. "Uh, that's nice of you . Come in." I walked past him and led him to the sofa and he followed me leaving Greg at the entrance.

"I'll leave you." Greg left the room.

Drew waited until he was gone and gave me an inquisitor look. "I didn't know you..." he paused for a moment and rephrased, "Are the two of you dating?"

"Oh no no! We're..." I felt embarrassed, it wasn't the kind of discussion we had with his ex. "We're not dating at all. He's just stayed here to keep me company." he looked at me like someone who didn't believe me.

"I know it's none of my business but even though we're not together anymore, I still care about you Meg, so please take care of yourself. I don't know what's going on with you and this guy but I don't trust that kind of guy."

"Thank you so much for worrying about me. And yes I will take care of myself."

"Otherwise, how are you? You know I'm worried about you, it must not be easy for you to see your father like that too."

"I'm trying to hold on and hope he gets better."

"I hope so for you. Anyway I'm glad to see you again." He said that as he got up to leave and I got up too.

"It's the same for me." I told him smiling at him.

I accompanied him to the door and opened it. By opening I noticed that a taxi stopped in front of the house. Sean came out.

"Thank you so much for stopping by." I say to Drew as Sean walks towards us.

I could see very well that Drew wanted to ask me who it was but he restrained himself.

"You know I'm here for you anytime, right?" I nodded and we hugged. I watched him descend the few steps, and headed down the small alley that led to the road. He and Sean stared at each other when they met. I stayed at the door waiting for Sean to arrive.

"Hello Miss Wyatt." He greeted me as he walked up the stairs.

"Oh come on Sean what did I tell you. There's none of that between us." he laughed as I let him in and closed the door.

"Hello Meghan." he corrected himself.

"How are you?" I asked him.

"I'm fine, I'm sorry about your father."

"Thank you Sean, and thank you for coming."

"I'll let him know you've arrived." I told him telling him to go sit on the sofa and before I went to warn him Greg ran down the stairs.

"I'm here. Sean what's up?" I let them talk and went to the room. I took the opportunity to go take a shower. I hurry to let Greg take a shower too because there were only one bathroom. When I left I found him in the bedroom. He was back to the door and talking on the phone. I entered slowly so as not to interrupt him.

"Cancel all my appointments today and tomorrow I won't be there, if someone asks me find an excuse." he listened to what his interlocutor was saying and answered.

"I don't know when I'll be back. But tell no one I'm not in New York."

I was careful not to make a sound but I tripped over my suitcase, and Greg turned and looked at me.

"No Ash, especially not to my mother. Now I have to leave you, my phone will be off if you need me contact Sean." then he hung up and approached me.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to interrupt you." I said to him while sitting on the bed.

"Don't worry you didn't interrupt anything, it was just my assistant."

That's when I thought that for a man as busy as him, with so many things to manage, it shouldn't be easy to be away from his business.

"I imagine you had other important things to do, I wouldn't want you to miss them because of me." he crouched down in front of me and put his hands on my knees.

"Believe me, I had nothing more important to do that could keep me from being here." he kissed me and got up. "I'll take a shower and we're going to have breakfast before going to the hospital?!"

I nodded and then he went to the bathroom.
