Chapter 16: Greg's POV

"I will beat you for the return match." I laughed at Max's words. That's what he always said every time I beat him at a game of tennis, and that was all the time.

"I beat you, when it had been almost three months since I had played, if you didn't beat me today you will never beat me." I told him as we were leaving the field to go to the locker room.

It's been a month since I left Miami, I had to stay to show the shareholders that running the company was my priority. Which did not necessarily please them.

"So? What are you going to do with Macy?" Max asked me while opening a bottle of water and drinking it. I took one too.

"Nothing, I'm going to let her realize on her own that I'm not going to change my mind."

Ever since I told Macy the wedding wouldn't take place, her behavior had completely changed. She hovered around me more than usual and came to the office almost every day, when she almost never set foot there before. I had made her understand that I hadn't liked the reply she had posted on my twitter announcement. Then she had sulked for a few hours before coming back to see me in my office and trying to seduce me. Which hadn't worked.

Obviously my decision did not please anyone, My mother even less. I had to make it clear to her too that marrying Macy or not was my decision and no one else's. She too was still trying to convince me to change my mind to no avail.

I had also discussed it with Don, Macy's father. He was angry because according to him publicly announcing that we were getting engaged soon and then calling it off was a disgrace to his daughter. I had made it clear to him that I had never asked for his daughter's hand which meant that I had no obligation to her, of course he didn't take it well.

"Are you sure it won't bring wars in your families, or worse within the company. Don could easily turn the other shareholders against you."

"It seems that Macy's mother doesn't talk to my mother anymore, even though they were very good friends. But you know me, I'll deal with it when the time comes." I took sips of water while Max looked askance at me.

"Who are you and what have you done with the Greg I know."

I didn't answer him and just smiled.

"Seriously, I'd like to see that girl. Does she know she completely blew your brains out?" he said that on his way to the club showers.

I had told him about Miss Wyatt. And he still couldn't understood how a girl could have such an effect on me. I still didn't either.

While he was going to take a shower, I took my phone out of my gym bag. It said it was 11:37 a.m. I noticed that I had a missed call from Gina. I called her back and she answered on the second ring.

"Hi bro where were you?" she asked me while picking up.

"I was playing tennis with Max. Have the new furnitures arrived."

I had ordered new tables and chairs for the Skylight. And I thought that was why she had called me.

"Yeah, they are installing them right now. But that was not why I called you." I heard some noise on the other end of the line as if she was moving fast.

"What did you want to tell me then."

"Wait a second." the noise continued for a few seconds and then it stopped.

"So listen, I know Meg is going to be mad at me for telling you. But I figured you'd like to know."

"What? What's wrong with her?"

"She left this morning for Idaho, she received a call telling her that her father was seriously ill in the hospital."

"Who is she with?"

"No one, I would have voluntarily accompanied her but I only found out after she left."

"But she can't be alone in a hospital."

"Do you think she had time to think about herself when her father is seriously ill?!"

I remembered her that day at the hospital where she had seen an injured child and she had felt unwell, I imagined if she had been alone. And now she was.

Right there, nothing else mattered. I quickly grabbed my bag as Max got out of the shower.

"I have to go ?" I informed him on my way to the exit

"Where are you going like that?" he asked me confused.

"I'll tell you later." I had to shout for him to hear me. I put my phone that I hadn't hung up on my ear.

"Are you still there ?" I spoke to a phone.

"Yes, what are you doing?". I didn't answer but asked her another question in return.

"Do you know what hospital her father is in?"

"No, I asked Flo to keep me updated, I can call him and ask ."

"Send me a message as soon as you know."

"That's my brother." Gina said before hanging up.

She had understood that at the moment, I had just sent everything to hell to go there.

Once in the car, I dialed Sean's number and put the loudspeaker before driving off. On Sundays, Sean was always off, he always spent it with his wife and son and I resented myse for having to disturb him.

He picked up right away.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but I need you"

"Tell me!"

" I want you to prepare the jet, we have to go somewhere."

"Okay, where are we going?"

"In Idaho. I'll explain to you later. We have to take off in two hours at the most."

"Got it!."

That was why I loved Sean, he never complained.

Once arrived in my residence, I took a shower and prepared a small bag. I put on some clothes and then got ready. I was ready for about fifteen minutes when Gina texted me the name of the hospital. Ten minutes later I was heading to LaGuardia airport. The plane took off an hour later, it was 2:10 p.m.

We landed at 4:40 p.m. Idaho time. Sean had taken care of renting a car, and when we arrived, it was ready and they gave us the keys. I took the car and Sean took a taxi with the bags to go and book for us rooms at the hotel.

I entered the coordinates of the hospital in the GPS. It said that I was going to be there in 20 minutes except that it took me five more minutes to get there.

In the hospital lobby, I walked over to the receptionist. She was a little lady with glasses.

"Good evening madam."

"Good evening to you sir." she answered me without looking up from the computer.

"I'm looking for a patient who was admitted here. His name is Wyatt." I didn't know Miss Wyatt's father's first name, so I tried with his last name.

She typed on the computer keyboard, chewing hard on her gum.

"Bayron Wyatt?" she asked me.

"Yes that's it !" I was hoping that was the only Wyatt in the hospital.

"Go ask the emergency room."

I thanked her and follow the signposts to get there. Along the way, I was thinking that in the emergency room there was a greater risk of seeing injured people than anywhere else. And she was there alone.

Arriving there I asked a nurse I met on the way.

"Can you tell me where Bayron Wyatt is." at least I knew his first name, I said to myself.

She told me to go and ask the nurses who were behind some sort of a desk and I walked towards them.

"Excuse me! Could you tell me where I can find Bayron Wyatt?"

The nurse who was behind the computer answered me right away.

"Box 13, third box on the left." On my way there I heard another nurse say. "I know that guy somewhere."

"Hope you won't know from where." I muttered as I headed towards box 13.

I found it without any problem, and there, I saw her.

She was sitting in an armchair beside the bed, her head next to her father's legs. She had fallen asleep. I gasped. How can she manage to remain so beautiful even in these conditions? She had a strand of hair that had escaped from her neglected bun and fell in her face. I approached to put it back in its place as gently as possible. Except that she moved as I reached out and woke up.

I long to have your thoughts about the book.
