Bone and ash

"Stop it now!" Another one says, blocking himself from her relentless insult of attacks.

All I need is one, the rest of them mean nothing to me. I was after that girl. My eyes land on the golden-eyed girl trying to defend herself with weak attacks. I see… she is still weak, but I still don't know what creature they fought to reach here, so I can't judge her capabilities.

Looking at her carefully, I try to discern her, going beyond the mask she's putting up. She looks drained and tired and she's even shaking if you look closely enough.

Everything about her is weird and timid. Yet, I took one step to make my presence known: the floor rumbles, and the walls tremble, letting loose rocks fall as the whole dungeon shakes from the earthquake that suddenly emerged.

All their bodies stiffen, and even mine, as before them, a wolf stands tall. Its four legs, each the size of one of them, support a massive body cloaked in dark, matted fur. Its eyes glow an eerie crimson, like embers in the darkness, and its form is both terrifying and majestic.

Jagged spikes protrude from its back, and its maw is filled with teeth sharp enough to rip through steel.

"Shit." I mumble. I didn't expect to see those aspects at work yet. I see it makes things suddenly happen which makes even if I go back in time unpredictable.

One of the men backed away, terror filling every fibre on his face. "How the hell-" He says but just as he was about to finish his sentence, his body is sweeped away from in front of the wolf and already merging with the wall at the side of it .

His flesh and blood converge with the wall and all the air from my lungs escapes, leaving me stunned at the power of the wolf before me.

"Fuck!" The mage says, jumping back and resting her hands on the floor, trying to conjure up a spell. Without a minute to spare fire accumulates into a tornado and charges right for the wolf.

"No!" I shout on reflex, while stepping out from my hiding spot, not exactly as I had planned but it's still something.

All their eyes were on me.

Astonishment fully corroding their eye and faces just as the tornado comes hurling my body jumps into action as I dashed my way over to the girl with the golden eyes, moving her out of the way just as the fire tornado collided back with the girl and remaining members.

The air was thick with the piercing symphony of screams as the flames hungrily consumed everything in their path. First, their clothes were reduced to smoldering rags, then their hair ignited in fiery wisps.

The heat intensified, searing their skin away, leaving it to bubble and blacken before disintegrating into ash. Finally, the inferno claimed even their bones, turning them to brittle fragments that crumbled to dust, leaving nothing behind but bones and ashes.

"What are you-" The girl in my arms asks, her voice breaking as tears threaten to roll down her cheeks.

"I am not him." I say sternly. "So keep your emotions in check." I extend a hand as I rise back to my feet. "I'll explain everything after." She grips onto my hand and though reluctantly and I pull her to her feet.

"Ok." she answers her voice barely above a whisper while clenching her staff close to her black tattered cloak.

I'm still on level one, plus have no clue on how to use my current abilities, while she is only on level five and can barely use her abilities as well. Our only choice is to run. But-
