It didn't take long for me to return to the DMLE with all the papers and a new mission. First things first I have to get Sirius a trial he is innocent and needs to be released. Once free he can claim guardianship of Hyacinth from Dumbledore. This will allow me to get him brought up on charges with the ICW and the Wizengamot. So much to do but if I do it right all will fall into place without Dumbledore even knowing what hit him. It just pisses me off that I can't get Hyacinth out of that house sooner. Stupid Dumbledore and his claim as her guardian.

Sirius was brought into the DMLE office for interrogation, no conviction means he has to have a formal interrogation first. A trial will follow with a testimony under Veritaserum. Sirius looked horrible long unkempt hair, baggy ripped clothes and a smell that was putrid at best. Administering the serum was easy Sirius was practically begging for it. Stealing myself I looked him in the eye as they glazed over showing the effects of the serum worked and asked, "Did you join the Death Eaters and betray the Potter's?"

He chuckled in a tired sort of way and said, "It took how many years in that hell hole for someone to finally ask that question. The answer to that question is no by the way. I would rather cut off my limbs and gouge out my eyes before I would have ever betrayed James and Lily. They were my family, Hyacinth is my God daughter for crying out loud. It's impossible for me to betray her."

With that question out of the way I moved on to the next question. "Did you fire a spell at Peter Pettigrew that caused the death of him and 12 muggles?" 

Sirius with a dull look in his eyes responded, "No, I did not fire the spell, Peter did." 

That was all it took for me to have the reason enough to submit for a expedited trial to prove his innocence. 

Next Day Emergency Trial  

Minister Fudge came barreling through the doors of the trial room almost lunging at me. "What is the meaning of this Madam Bones? Why have you called for an emergency trial and not even notified myself or the Wizengamot who is on trial?"

I sighed and said, "I haven't notified anyone of the person on trial because I have reason to believe there is someone who wants to keep him locked up for their own benefit. I have questioned him under Veritaserum and he has been wrongfully and illegally locked up in Azkaban for the last 11 years. We must correct this Minister Fudge. He is a Lord who was given no initial questioning and no trial before being locked away. The other Lords and Lady's would have been beyond furious if this got out and we did nothing. This way we come out looking like we are trying to right the wrongs our predecessors have committed. We only have what's best in mind for our society after all." 

It took a minute for what I said to sink in before Fudge nodded sagely and said, "You are quite right Madam Bones I will support you all the way." At this he turned and walked away to take his place. 

I took my place after all the Wizengamot had gotten there minus one Albus Dumbledore who had sent a missive that he was unable to attend due to prior obligations. Lady Longbottom taking over his role in the interim. I looked up at them and began with the small fib on the goblins request.

"It started with a request from the Goblin Nation after an investigation into the inheritor of the title of a Lord when they pulled the records they realized that he had been sent to Azkaban without questioning or a trial. This caused an issue because no one could inherit the title but him unless he died or received a guilty verdict. The Goblins could due nothing with the accounts due to the limbo the Lord was in called me to report the lack of trial and conviction. So I pulled the Lord in for a formal questioning under Veritaserum due to there not even being one of those on file. What I asked is in the files in front of you I also have the memory of Auror Shacklebolt of said questioning if you need to see it. He answered no to both counts against him so here we are so he can be asked and tried fairly by you the Wizengamot as a fellow Lord he is entitled to fair due process and compensation for the wrongs against him and his house." 

I stepped aside to allow Shacklebolt to bring in Sirius Black and the noise in the room grew. Murmurs and fingers pointing at him before Lady Longbottom said, "Quiet, we will now question the accused Madam Bones administer the Veritaserum."

I did as told and watch for the glazed eyes before saying, "He is ready for your question Lady Longbottom."

Lady Longbottom took a breath before asking, "Did you Sirius Orion Black join the Death Eaters and betray the Potters which led to their death?"

Sirius' voice was emotionless and dull with his response, "No, that would be impossible. I can't betray them because I was James' oath sworn brother and Hyacinth's oath sworn Godfather."

More murmurs before Lady Longbottom continued, "Did you fire a spell that killed Peter Pettigrew and 12 muggles?"

Sirius continued dully, "No, I did not." 

Lady Longbottom then asked, "Then what happened that night Lord Black?"

Sirius said, "I had gotten back to my apartment when I saw the clock showing that James and Lily were in danger so I rushed to them. When I got there James was dead by the stairs, I rushed up them only to find Lily dead in front of Hyacinth with a pile of robes in front of her. Hyacinth was crying I picked her up and tried to sooth her through her tears and mine. I took and wrapped her in a blanket and left the house with her in my arms intent on taking her to a healer for the cut on her forehead. That's when Hagrid showed up and said he had orders to take Hyacinth away. I fought with him of course was my God Daughter, but he told me Dumbledore had ordered it. I gave in and figured Minerva would watch her and keep her safe at Hogwarts while I hunted Peter. I figured after I caught him I could go get her and bring her to St. Mungo's. I tracked Peter and corned him but before I knew what was happening he fired a Confundus at me and then yelled something followed by a Bombarda. Everything exploded after that I think he hit a muggle gas line, Lily used to tell me about stuff like that. Next thing I know I am being dragged away by Aurors and dumped in Azkaban when I have been until Madam Bones brought me out for questioning." 

Lady Longbottom called for quiet after the noise became to load and said, "All those who find Lord Black guilty raise your hands." no one did "Then I Lady Longbottom Interim Chief Warlock Find Lord Sirius Black innocent on all counts and offer up 5,000 Gallons for each year he was wrongfully imprisoned in Azkaban without trial. I will also personally make a public announcement to the Daily Profit stating all of this."
