“Can I ask you something?”
“Su…sure.”
Pablo didn’t utter a single word for a few seconds. Instead, he bit his lower lip and avoided Keenan’s eyes for a brief moment.
“Why do you dislike rich people?”
Keenan shouldn’t have been astounded by the question, but he was. A part of him knew it would come up in his and Pablo’s conversations sooner or later, but he didn’t expect the moment to arrive now.
“It’s…it’s my issue. It’s something I still have to work through.”
“Why?”
Keenan breathed in deeply before answering. “I used to envy those wealthy people, but there was nothing more to it. During my junior year in college, I dated this guy, Cooper. He was the prettiest man I had even seen in my entire life.”
“Was?”
Keenan cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck. “You’re much prettier than him.”
Pablo’s cheeks reddened. “Tha…thanks.”
