The Team

In a room of 10 square meters resided a dozen monitors which gave it its only light sources. Two men sat on opposite corners of that dimly lit room producing sounds of clickings as they type lines of codes unreadable to any normal person. A third person lied on a bed in another corner wearing on her a kind of headset that covered the upper half of her face.

Attached to it were wires connecting the headgear to a personal computer. "Stay still, they are very near" one of the men said, staring attentively at the monitor in front of him which displayed a video of a girl crouching behind a large boulder inside a wood. Her right hand rested on the pommel of an arming sword on her waist. She had on her a black armor with golden designs.

"Where's this goon?" she asked, looking at the camera as if breaking the fourth wall.

"Don't get hasty. I'll teleport a suitable spell over there" the man answered as he resumed coding. Lines of green texts appeared on a small window in the corner of the screen.

"I can just disable him real quick. No need for the hack"

"Don't, The Fine Brothers isn't the type for us amateurs to fuck around with"

"Aight" the girl said, peeking her head out from her hiding spot to assess the situation before resuming to hide and wait patiently.

"There, M" as soon as the man announced, the silhouette of a small box formed by a dozen green lines appeared out of thin air next to the side of the girl. New lines continued to get hatched before a green box was formed. A parchment came into view from the inside as the box began to dematerialize.

"Thanks Gary" M expressed her gratitude before taking the parchment to examine its content.

"Use abbreviation" the man expressed his unneeded concern of being taped by hackers.

"My bad G" M spread the parchment on the ground then pressed her palm on the center of it. "0x23rO" she casted an unknown spell conjuring up a gray robe before putting it on.

"E, you got the whole area mapped out?" G asked the man in the opposite corner of the room.

"Ya, I'm sending the data to you"

"Alright, M do not engage with the guard, sneak past him"

M began to move away from the boulder and headed south. Deep in the wood, a stone mansion came into view. Its monumental size and the fact that it wasn't even the main base demonstrated the wealth and power of The Fine Brothers.

Stone walls on which magic circles were carved surrounded the massive structure and beside the entrance stood a figure resting a spear on his shoulder. A golden magic circle mechanically rotated behind his head.

The circle indicated that a spell was in effect. Third Eye, an advanced spell only intermediates could use, functioned in a way similar to that of a radar. It allowed users to detect and identify any living being in a 30 meter radius.

M continued walking toward the walls' northern gate while clutching the hood of the robe to cover her head. This was to stay undetected.

Assassin's Robe was a beginner item that allowed wearers to become invisible, though it only worked on low level monsters. The item proved to be effective against goblins as wearers could sneak into their base without being detected but any humans with their naked eyes saw only a person in an ordinary robe.

But by tweaking it a bit through the systems, it could also become unperceivable to some specific humans. In this case, the robe had been modified so that the guard and his Third Eye could not spot M.

Though the item was in effect, M still needed to stay cautious as even if she was invisible she wasn't inaudible, as did the environments around her. Should she step on a twig, the guard would summon the whole sky upon her.

There was no item to omit sounds, not any that worked on humans anyway. No amount of hacking could make one come into existence. G had tried many kinds of exploit he'd learned from forums and associates but none was of use.

"Yabbadabadoo" stealth proved to be M's specialty as she easily snuck past the guard and made it into the inner part of the walls.

"Alrighty, the storage room is on the Eastern side of the house. Head over there" as M proceeded to follow G's order, he began reading out the exact coordinates on which he needed her to stand.

When she got to the designated spot, M pressed her back against the side of the wall. "This good?" she asked for confirmation.

"Stand still, E" upon G's cue, E began typing swiftly. On his monitors, dozens of windows with complicated codes appeared and disappeared. Slowly starting from underneath her boots, green lines engulfed M's whole body in a matter of seconds. And in the same manner, it vanished bringing along with it the content inside.

On the other side of the wall, a silhouette formed by green matter slowly materialized. Similar to how they were formed, the matter diminished, leaving only the person it had been concealing.

M opened her eyes. In front of her was a room with darkness being its defining characteristic.

"G, I can't see shit" she complained, trying to get her eyes to adapt to the sudden change of environment, which proved to be useless.

"Hold on. I'm equipping you with the NV" G began inputting new lines of codes, which caused his computers' fan to whiz in a violent manner.

A magic circle with missing symbols and glitched out numbers appeared behind M's head spinning slowly. Feline's Sight was a spell that allowed users to see in the dark. Since only veterans could use this spell, G had to tweak it a bit to make it possible to equip it on M.

M saw the room slowly brighten up, ridding it of all obscurity. Her eyes widened. Stacks upon stacks of silvers and golds laid bare for her to behold. Surrounding them were what looked like stone bricks to naked eyes but they were in fact made of materials harder than steels. True to the information provided by the whistleblower, the room had no entrances or at least tangible ones.

This was indeed a secret room only long time members of the group knew of. Getting inside here by any normal means would prove to be quite impossible. As this was The Fine Brothers' domain, members might be coming in and out of the room using teleportation circles. Ones that outsiders could not use.

 "Jesus"

"Haha! We're eating good tonight" shouted E in delight.

Everyone could tell this was no small amount of money. A faction of what was inside this room could buy an entire village. This was a reminder of the wealth The Fine Brothers possessed and of the risk the team was putting themselves at by being here uninvited.

"We ought not to stay here for long. Take as much as you can and get out of there" said G. His unease wasn't for nothing. Though unlikely, there could be spells that could detect M's presence in the room. Of course, G was more than capable of knowing whether there was one or not. He knew there was none present here but it was better safe than sorry.

G began coding and green lines appeared out of thin air knitting each other into a large box. As soon as the box was formed, the outer layer slowly disappeared revealing a wooden chest with a ruby crest in the center. It was simply an ordinary chest.

"Aight, time to get to work" M began scooping handfuls of gold coins then putting them into the chest causing them to rattle as they hit the bottom. She continued doing so until the box was filled to the brim prompting her to close it before the wealth could spill out.

Green lines once again appeared from underneath the chest then began making their way upward to engulf it. The sequence of actions took no longer than five seconds, after which the green matter disappeared along with its contents. Not long after, green lines began appearing out of thin air again knitting itself into the shape of another box. Even before it could reveal a chest identical to the one from before, M had already begun scooping another load of dough priming herself to fill yet another chest with assets. The cycle repeated itself until the amount of valuables in the room was half of its original weight.

"That's all we can take for now. My processors are beginning to melt. Had I known there would be this many loots, I'd have prepared more computers" G said regretfully with his tone clearly expressing his dissatisfaction.

"That so? Damn, what a shame. I doubt we could get inside here this easily next time around." M shared the same sentiment.

"Come on. We ought to get her outta there asap if we're done" suggested E, perturbed about the fact that M staying in that room for any longer than necessary.

"Yeah, you're right.." replied G. "..alright M go to..." he then told M to go to a specific spot by giving her some coordinates.

She walked alongside a wall while constantly paying attention to her footings before pressing her back against one particular spot just as she had done so on the other side.

"Aight G, work your magic" by the time she said that G had already finished typing out the codes. As soon as he pressed enter, random windows started getting opened and closed automatically.

 "Huh?"

 Suddenly, a loud bang.

 "Oh fuck"

It had come from inside one of his PCs.

 "What was that sound?"

"Bad fucking news, M. My computer exploded. I can't teleport you out of there no more" G said.

 "For real?"

One of his monitors went dark with the only thing left on it being the reflection of him and E peeking his head out from his gaming chair with a face that inaudibly said "Well, that just happened".

"Hold on. Let me try to figure something out"

"Nah, it's alright. I'll just do the usual stuff"

"You sure? Don't you have a lot of Angel's Dust on you right now?"

"It's fine. We can always hire someone to get new dust for us with today's haul"

 "If you say so"

As soon as he said that, M began walking toward the center of the room while carefully unsheathing her arming sword. As she walked across the room, she knocked some loose coins with the tips of her boots causing several to be sent flying and making clinking noises as they hit the ground.

Once she reached a suitable spot, she stopped then pulled her sword all the way out from the scabbard. For the first time since coming here, her blade bore its razor-sharp fang but the first blood it was going to draw would not be from a foe. M lifted up her tapered steel and pressed its edge against the left side of her neck.

Then, without an ounce of hesitation, she dragged the blade across the surface of her frail skin. Thick crimson liquid spewed out at a rapid pace dyeing M's robe and the floor beneath her feet with hue of gore. With half of the muscles of her neck lacerated, M's head tilted to the right in a disturbing manner.

After a succession of swift motions, M's body began to go limp. The first thing to give out was her knees, which quickly bent forward in a violent fashion. M's body collapsed under its own weight, slamming straight onto the floor with a loud thud.

As blood continued to spill out from the gaping gash, M lied face down on the floor, her composed eyes expressing no concern over the wound on her neck. A pool of blood began to expand, flooding the crack in the fake stone bricks and the remaining metal coins nearby.

Soon, the altered magic circle, which was still slowly rotating behind M's head, began to fade out. Halfway through disappearing, it began to flicker, a behavior only present in modified magic circles, and after a short amount of time it vanished completely, signifying the death of M's.

G, meanwhile, was producing complex lines of codes, paying no heed to the intense sounds the computer fans under the table were making. He could feel the heat leaking out from the processors and enveloping his entire lower body. He brushed it off by thinking of them as just some cheap pseudo heaters. As soon as he finished typing out the codes, he began running them prompting the sound of the loud fans to intensify.

While his monitors were having a seizure, green lines began to materialize next to M's motionless body extending themselves directly toward it. Similar to before, the lines set out to swallow her body along with the pool of blood on the floor. As usual, the green matter would engulf her whole before teleporting her away from the room.

 Teleportation.

It was a skill that allowed users to go from one place to another almost instantaneously. One could use this skill by doing as follows. Step one would be to create magic circles. At a minimum, basic teleportation magic required two large circles which functioned as portals connecting one another to produce a loophole. Step two would be to make contact with one of the magic circles and cast a specific spell. Through performing these steps, one could break spacetime and travel at lighting paces.

By messing with the systems, skilled programmers could cheat and effectively omit the first step altogether. Though, this cheat was only reliable when used to send inanimate objects back and forth. Transporting living things on the other hand required an enormous amount of processing power and the distance it covered was only a few feet.

After one of his PCs crashed, G was now unable to transport M to the other side of the wall leaving her stranded inside an almost indestructible room with no exits. Sooner or later, someone from The Fine Brothers would visit this room and notice the sneaky thief inside it. One could easily track down the group behind the theft using the corpse of one of its members. If that was to happen, the whole team would be screwed, therefore, they ought to get out of there as soon as possible using all means necessary.

After killing herself, M herself became an inanimate object, enabling G to teleport her out of there with ease. Without her body, it was impossible to track down who was behind the plundering.

After a few moments, the green matter vanished bringing along with it what it was enveloping.

 "Phew"

"Great work, Elvin" said Gary as soon as he shut down most of his computers. "I will give you your share once I finish trading the loot for real papers".

"Ya, thanks and uhhh..." Elvin's eyes drifted downward "...hey I think one of your PCs is leaking smoke" he then pointed to a computer that looked like it had a steak being fried inside.

"Ah fuck" Gary leaned down then unplugged the cables of the cooking hardware before opening the windows to let some fresh air in"

"Call me if you need anything, Gary"

 "You going already?"

"Ya, got some work. Say goodbye to your sister for me." said Elvin as he began leaving.

"Alright, see ya" responded Gary as he used a small electric fan to direct the smoke toward the windows. "Oh by the way" he added "We need dust, you know what to do".

"I know, I'll find someone for that...alright bye" said Elvin before bidding goodbye making his way to the exit.

 "Bye"

Elvin closed the door behind him with a thud as he left the small apartment. Gary began organizing his messy desk with one hand while the other was still holding the electric fan. Clearly uncomfortable, he pulled a nearby table right next to the windows then put the fan down.

He took out a plastic bag from one of the drawers before sweeping his hand horizontally on the surface of the desk to shove some broken USBs and disks off the edge causing them to drop into the bag. After neatly tying a slip knot, he clumsily threw the bag into a can causing it to slightly wobble.

"Woah" Gary instinctively reached out to the trash can before stopping when he realized it wasn't doing to tip over. With his desk tidied up, he started crouching down to look for his mini vacuum cleaner before halting as he just remembered he had thrown it away this morning because it was broken.

"Fwoooo" a sound came from his left side. He tilted his head to see that the girl lying on the bed had woken up and was taking off her headgear.

"Huh, Mary. Out already?" he asked.

"Yeah, got my stuff back real quick. I spawned right next to Largville. Lucky me"

"That so? Come one, help me clean up here"

"Aight...." Mary stopped for a bit "...Jeez, why is the room full of smoke?" she covered her mouth and nose with one hand while waving the other to divert the smoky air.

"Ah that's right, could you use that fan to direct all this smoke to the windows?" said Gary as he pointed to the electric fan vibrating on the table.

"Cough...cough.." Mary got off her bed and began making her way to the windows. Grabbing the handle of the fan, she swung it around as if it were a sword.

"Jesus, be careful" he tried to warn her but before the words could reach her ears, she stepped on a can of soda then tripped over flinging her imaginary sword out of the windows.

"Ack!" Mary's whole body slammed onto the floor causing it to slightly shake. "Urgh...my back.." she curled up with one of her arms tucked behind to grasp her buttock.

 "AH! My fan!" shouted Gary.

The fan flew out of the room in a comical fashion. Like an attack helicopter, its blades spun but with batteries smaller than a thumb it was inevitably going nowhere but downward. And so it did.

With the room it had flown out of being on the seventh floor, this little chopper had one hell of a fall. It dived for a few seconds before making contact with the ground crashing, which caused all of its parts to be sent flying in different directions.

The crash made a loud sound, signifying the end of yet another fruitful day.
