A Day In The Fated Future
Location - Unknown
(Dazai Crowley's POV)
After taking in the otherworldly sights from the other side of the window, I felt incredibly nauseous. A dreadful sense of homesickness washed over me when I felt so out of place in this odd environment.
Putting aside my amnesia, I wanted nothing more but to go back home, my real one mind you. We already established that this place is just a cheap imitation of my memories, or rather the fragments.
All the more reason as to why I don't feel comfortable here, especially while Blair is here with me. The reason why I say that is because there's nothing more unpleasant than being locked in a room with a person you know you can't trust.
Speaking of being locked, I glanced over towards the nearby window and door before appraising them. As much as I hoped for my brain to have been playing tricks, I saw the invisible barriers protecting them. No doubt about it, they were enchanted with magic to keep others from entering or exiting.
Another thing I noticed was that the inscriptions were on the level that only an expert could perform.
Of course, that was just a guess on my part. My knowledge about magic is still limited until I fix my amnesia. Till then, I won't know how effective these spells are without personally interacting with them.
Though, unlike the blinds I touched earlier, something told me that messing with the door might not be a good idea. It looked as if it was ready to attack anybody that dared touching the knob.
I mean with the amount of magic I felt from the invisible magic barriers, I wouldn't be surprised if it was capable of lavishing me with unfortunate scars.
Wait, scars? Hmm, I wonder if….
Ignoring the mysterious magic for now, I look back towards Blair who, up till now, had been enjoying reading the books she borrowed off a nearby shelf.
To be honest, I found her actions to be suspicious, or rather, what she "wasn't" doing. She showed no signs of concern or even care for our situation.
Nor did she bombard me with any questions or participate in any small talk without a bit of initiative on my part. Not to mention explain why she kissed me earlier. Her attitude didn't match the natural reaction of a person who awoke in a strange room. It was as if she fully accepted the situation.
The idea of her also preferring silence didn't feel right considering her personality, and with the fact how she thinks the two of us are married, you would think she would embrace her company. Yet despite that, there was still a bit of distance between us.
I wonder. Was she waiting for me to talk to her?
If so, I can kind of understand why. Last thing you want in a situation like this is to be pestered by someone else you don't know. She probably was keeping some distance between the two of us, allowing me to take refuge in my own personal space before reacclimating to my surroundings.
This way, I can rebuild my comfort zone and handle things at my own pace rather than forcing my cards to match that of my company.
In other words, she was minding her own business and awaited the moment for when I was ready to talk to her. Honestly, if you think about it, that's pretty endearing in its own right.
Thinking about this while giving her silent gratitude, I walked over to her, making sure I was outside the reach of her arms or any of her concealed weapons. I did this all the while thinking carefully of my next set of words. After all, what I was about to ask her would make or break my perspective on her.
"Hey Blair? Do you remember who you are or did you forget your memories like me?" I asked.
"Hmm." Although it was for a mere second, there was a subtle pause in her movements as if indicating she was taking a moment to think of a response.
"Memories, huh. You could say I more or less have them. I probably know more about myself than you know yourself."
Was that supposed to be some sort of weird flex? No, wait. If you ask me, I think she was merely using me as a comparison to measure her own self awareness.
Even still, as unintentional as it was, I can't help but wince from the insult to injury. But I must press on nonetheless.
"Mind telling me more about yourself then?"
"Sure, but please don't expect anything too specific. Some things are still a little hazy for me after all."
"That's fine. I just want to know more about my wife, no matter how trivial the details may be."
"Ohoh!?~" Saying those words, Blair's expression swiftly changed to that of possible excitement and even a hint of embarrassment. She even pursed her lips, just to add that extra spice of naughtiness.
I mean yeah, I had prepared to use a line like that a few minutes beforehand, but it was nothing more but simple dialogue that would give the illusion of me playing alongside her antics.
Not to mention build some preemptive forms of preparation or defense depending if she was truly my wife, or just some deranged serial murderer. Of course the latter would mean I'm giving the impression of being none the wiser to her words.
Well, regardless of who she truly was, despite me placing little effort in the delivery, my words were more effective than I thought given her expressions.
"Let's see. Geez, where do I even begin? I can't say I remember exactly everything about myself, but I atleast know my purpose in life."
"What, like some sort of goal?" I asked, but she paused yet again. Her reply was not immediate, but eventually it came, just in a tone I could barely hear.
"In a way, yes, but it's more so a mission if anything."
From afar, her purple eyes were vacant as she stared off into space without so much giving me a glance. But for some reason, I sensed this incredible sense of determination and resolve hiding deep beneath her surface. It was as if it was lost in an area in which I cannot understand.
After Blair said that much, she fell silent for a small moment. Curious, I perked my eyebrows up before getting ready to ask the next question. But before I was able to speak, she got herself up and began walking towards my general direction.
Until further notice, I had planned to keep as much distance as I could away from her. But if she saw me intentionally create any suspicious amount of distance, who knows what idea she might get. Especially since I'm trying to give off the idea of me being comfortable around her.
Thankfully, she appeared to be walking towards the window a few meters away from me, so all I had to do was skillfully move out of her way, giving her the chance to relax and take in the mesmerizing sights.
"My purpose in life. The mission that I was entrusted with…" Gazing outside, Blair stared at her hand in the reflection before bawling it into a fist.
"That's right. I was a teacher."
A teacher huh. Well, atleast now I know just a little more about who I'm dealing with.
