For vampires, the north of the line belongs to House Ashama, the south to House Bruch, and the subtly neutral House Giovanni, which is just inside the canton of Meno.

Each vampire family has a headquarters hidden deep in the woods, covering a considerable area, and numerous smaller branches within the family's sphere of influence, both Ashama and Bruch being no exception, except for the Giovanni, who, due to their small numbers, have only a handful of branches outside their headquarters.

And the last time Lestat had told Alice that there were over two hundred people in his family, she now knew at last that that was not the true number.

Ivan said that the Bruch family consisted of internal members made up of older vampires and children born of vampires, new members developed later and peripheral members made up of humans who served the vampires, the exact number he didn't know, but it was definitely in the tens of thousands.
