THERE was never wasted time for me. I believed that every second that I should do must be of something important. Work was always to be serious, may it be related to the pack or the company.

I scowled when Tara got up and carried her plate with her to the kitchen. I wasn’t mad anymore, just disappointed. Being a trained observer, I knew she was trying to give me space. And I hated it.

One rule of living with your mate included admitting defeat.

“Tara, look,” I started when she returned from the kitchen.

She glanced at me and took the glass of water from the table. “What?”

I cursed under my breath, not knowing what to say. When Tara turned and moved to leave for the living room, I stood up and caught her arm. I heard her sigh before looking back at me.

“I’m sorry, Connor. I wish I hadn’t made you feel like I was going against you and your family.”
