Chapter 25

Tara

THERE was nothing sadder than looking at happiness and knowing that you would never have it. I thought there was a time that I could get to that point, that point in life when I would finally be happy.

My father died when I was young; I never even met my mother. I was left with my aunt to be tended. She was the only family I knew, but that was short-lived as she died five years ago. Since then, the only people I knew I had were the pack members of South Forest.

“Luna, are you alright?”

I looked up to see Isabelle standing a few feet away from me. We were just outside the infirmary. I was supposed to go in, but I got scared. It has been some time since I last helped in healing wolves.

“I’m good,” I answered her and smiled.

“You’ve been standing there quite sometime now.”

“I was admiring the architecture.”

I saw her smile at my answer. It was a pretty bad excuse. The infirmary was just a white box.

“Are you looking for the Alpha?”

“No!” I answered immediately.
