RAIN
We are seated on a bench in the backyard fit to be park. Liam's head is on my lap, his face pressed against my lower abdomen.
He is calming down, a little better as I rub his shoulder.
"Do you know the first time I met your mother was the night I almost lost you?" I lay back, eyes on the moon shining brightly in the dark sky. "I was scared shitless and I kept waiting for her to curse me out and tell me to get lost."
I don't expect Liam to respond; I'm content just talking to him like this. My heart broke into pieces when I found him breaking down here alone. I wanted to protect him and take away his pain, but I didn't know how.
I only hope holding him like this, talking about Lexie will relieve his anguish.
