Grant looked at the king, his heart breaking for the hundredth time, but the words the king spoke next shut him up, and sent him into shock for a few seconds. Maybe because he wasn't expecting that as soon as power was handed to him, he would already be having competition.
"We all know I'm dying and we will need someone to keep the kingdom the same. I won't put it to a vote, because I already chose the perfect man for the job. As for the moment, Grant, you will be running the kingdom,—
"— until my son comes of age to take over from you," the king said, and once again the throne room fell dead silent.
No one had expected that Cassius had an heir, much less a son that was in Acrod with them. This had to be some sort of a prank. Maybe he was thinking of Grant as his son, right? But that just didn't make any sense.
