Sienna Lawrence's world shatters when her beloved adoptive family perishes under mysterious circumstances, leaving her as the sole heir to their business empire. With the Lawrence legacy in her hands, she faces a daunting challenge: not only must she protect herself but also safeguard the family's assets from those who seek to exploit them. The catch? To claim her inheritance, Sienna must be married. With her trusted boyfriend revealing sinister intentions and danger lurking around every corner, she embarks on a quest to find a husband. In a moment of desperation, Sienna turns to a stranger she meets by chance. “Mister, are you single?” she asks. “Huh?” The man looks at her, perplexed. “Are you married or in a relationship?” she clarifies. “No,” he replies. “How about a crush?” “None so far.” “Good. Where do you work?” “What?” “Forget it. It’s not important. Do you know how to cook?” “Yeah.” “Is your cooking good?” “I guess so,” the man answers, still puzzled by her questions. “Perfect. I’m single, you’re single. Do you want to marry me?” Sienna asks boldly. “I never expected to be proposed to by a stranger all of a sudden. I don’t…” “If you’re not willing, I’ll look for someone else. No pressure.” “Who said I’m not willing? I’m more than willing,” the man replies without hesitation. And so, Sienna ends up with a husband just like that. Things take a drastic turn when Sienna discovers her real parents, leading her to unravel a conspiracy that could potentially turn her world upside down. What connection does her husband and her real family have? Why is the man turning more mysterious as time passes?
Although Sienna relied on the nurse to take care of her medication and food, she didn't consume anything she or anyone else other than Frank or Agnes brought for her. Her recovery was important, but not at the cost of her life.
So, everything the nurse handed her was thrown away discreetly and nobody knew about it except Frank. A few hours had passed since she gained consciousness and fatigue was setting in on her. Sienna's wish to have the power to ward off sleep was stronger than before.
Alas, she was after all a mere human, and eventually, under Frank's watchful eyes, Sienna succumbed to sleep.
While Sienna drifted off to sleep, Frank kept vigilance, guarding the ward from any perpetrators. Sienna was the last remaining Lawrence. Even though she was adopted, she was still a Lawrence and it was his duty to protect her. It was what he lived for.
Nothing happened for a few hours and as time passed, he too relaxed. The night had set in and the crowd in the hospital had reduced. However, that didn't stop Frank from remaining alert. Now was the perfect opportunity to attack Sienna when there were fewer eyes. He couldn't lower his guard.
Frank stood by the door and looked out through the glass pane on it. Since it was a VIP ward and their men were everywhere, he didn't find anything usual. Only a few people had the opportunity to attack Sienna and the most possible ones could be from among the guards outside the ward.
Frank observed them from where he was, but couldn't find anything amiss. Frowning lightly, he returned to the chair and took his seat while he waited.
At around 3 a.m., the ward door opened and the nurse entered with a medicine tray.
Frank stood up instantly, his eyes boring into her as he observed her every move. His gaze was so intense that the young nurse almost dropped the tray in fright. Only she knew how she had managed to reach the bed without her legs giving away.
"I'm here to give Miss Lawrence her medicines," the nurse explained. But Frank didn't react and continued to study her.
The medicines were untampered and they were the ones the doctor had prescribed. There wasn't any foul play. Yet, Frank didn't allow the poor nurse any leeway and didn't move his gaze away from her until she was out of the ward.
Being a trained guard for years and a trusted aid of the Lawrence family, his aura was no less formidable. The nurse had no way of escaping from him.
Frank only relaxed when he ensured that the nurse wouldn't be returning for the night. He checked on Sienna who was deep asleep before returning to his chair.
Time passed and nothing happened, not at night or dawn. There was no action even until Sienna woke up in the morning.
Sienna felt refreshed. It was the best sleep she had had since her family was murdered. If not for the agony in her body and her heart, she'd have assumed everything to be a nightmare.
Blinking her eyes open, she waited until her eyes adjusted to the light before searching for Frank. The poor man was dozing off in his chair. His plight distressed her, especially when she saw his awkward position.
Frank's entire body was tilted to his right as he supported his head with his hand. Sienna felt her neck and wrist ache just by looking at him.
"Frank!" Sienna's one call was enough to wake the sleeping man and he jumped to his feet immediately. Even the tingling sensation in his neck and wrist didn't hinder him as he looked around the ward warily.
Only when he was assured that there was no danger did he relax and focus on Sienna who was staring at him in amusement.
"Are you okay?" Sienna hid her smile and asked in concern.
"Yes, Miss. I'm fine." Frank didn't know what Sienna referring to. But he didn't dwell on it and answered honestly, ignoring the numbing pain in his wrist and neck.
"Well, that's great then." Sienna didn't know what else to say. "Looking at the situation, I presume nothing happened last night."
Frank nodded.
"As expected. The perpetrator must know that we are cautious. So, they didn't take any action," Sienna analyzed as she tried to sit and Frank rushed to help her.
"That could be a possibility, Miss. What do we do now?"
"Let's wait until evening. If nothing happens until then, let's leave. I can't wait for them forever. I have a lot of matters to handle."
"But Miss..."
Sienna raised her eyes at him and Frank shut up instantly. What a scary look! He hadn't seen such an expression on her. However, it wasn't as if he hadn't seen the expression at all. He was instantly reminded of Sienna's father, Warren. In his prime, he too was a force to reckon with.
Frank didn't try to persuade her anymore. Anyway, Sienna wouldn't listen to him. Moreover, the company needed her more. The shareholders were close to causing riots and she had to come up with something soon to appease them before things went out of control.
"I understand, Miss." Frank relented and went to the washroom to freshen up.
Sienna waited until the man was out of sight before she dropped her expression. How difficult was it to persuade people when they were worried about her? However, it wasn't the time to worry. It was time to act.
Sienna picked up her phone and went through the messages one by one. Esme had mailed her the details regarding the Production House and the Clean Energy project her sister was handling. The detailed plan showed her the path she was searching for and she tapped on her phone thoughtfully.
The Production House was her first target and she sent orders to buy it right away irrespective of the cost. The Lawrence empire wasn't involved in the entertainment business. This could be their first step.
"Miss, I'll be back soon with the breakfast," Frank said as he approached the door.
"Frank, did anyone enter the ward the previous night?"
"Yes, Miss. The nurse was here with the medicines."
Sienna nodded and lowered her eyes. Since Frank was calm, there wasn't anything suspicious about the nurse.
"Fine. You may go," Sienna ordered and returned to her phone. There were quite a lot of work emails that needed her immediate attention. But Sienna took her own time to study them first before responding.
Her fingers stopped when her phone dinged suddenly. The hidden number didn't surprise her. But the content of the message shook her to the core.
'If you want to know who murdered your family, come to the planetarium on Saturday at 3 p.m. And come alone.'
