I woke up to a sudden rain storm. I didn't get much sleep, but I knew it would have to do. I rubbed my eyes and got myself out of my sleeping spot in the tree.
I made my way down the tree carefully, since the branches were all wet I knew one mistake and I could end up tumbling to my death.
Thankfully I made it to the ground safely. I began stretching and checked the map briefly. After reorienting myself in the right direction, I began to walk again.
The rain was simply a light sprinkle under the trees, so I was walking with haste. I wanted to make it as far as I could while the rain wasn't too bad, and if I was lucky I could cover the final six miles tonight. I might even be able to find a place to warm up, and avoid catching a cold.
This world looked to be in a medieval Era, which bothered me slightly because the medical knowledge might be lacking. A simple flu could actually kill me here.
As I was trying to think on the positive side, I heard voices ahead.
"STOP RIGHT THERE! ANOTHER MOVE AND WE WILL SHOOT YOU DOWN!" A gruff voice could be heard.
I immediately stopped, and enabled Supercomputer. Although I wasn't able to see anything, I was able to tell the distance of the voice. Also, I was able to infer that the voice was turned away from me, so it wasn't me they were talking to. I took this chance to creep up slowly on the foliage before me that obstructed my view.
As I quietly pushed through the bushes, a clearing appeared before me, where I saw two groups having a standoff.
There were around 12 men and women clad in plate armor, surrounding a single man who was wearing a business suit.
A suit from my time, from my world it seemed.
"Wait, wait wait, I don't know what is going on here! I fell from the sky and just landed in some field!" The man in the suit said, pleading desperately.
"We know where you came from... However you stand a potential threat to the King of Demons. Lord Lucifer. For that, you will die here." A tall man, who seemed to be the leader said, before signaling for his men to open fire with the crossbows they had pointed at the man.
"WAHHHH! GUUH!"
*phwish*
*thwock*
His body was turned into a pin cushion for the crossbow bolts. He died immediately, since it looked like two arrows his him in the heart.
"How many other lights did you see fall in the area?" The captain said to a woman standing next to him.
"Just one, Captain Ferguson, it should have landed deep in the forest." The woman said. She was a short-haired blond, and about the same height as the tall captain.
"Then we head into the forest. Anna, you take body back to the castle, and wait for my orders there. The rest of you, follow me! We will hunt down this 'hero' sent by that bitch Goddess, Gaia!" Captain Ferguson shouted, rallying his men once more.
I stayed hidden in the bushes until the entire group was gone. Then I turned off my Supercomputer skill, and processed what I just learned.
The people who fall from the sky, like me, are the heroes summoned by a Goddess named Gaia. Their objective is to stop the Demon Lord, Lucifer, and it seemed that he had significant influence in this area.
"Ah fuck... This is such a bust. I have no skills, no special cheat, and I only have an ability that makes my head hurt something awful. There's no way I can defeat the Demon Lord, I should find a nice quiet village to live in..."
I said outloud. I walked the same direction the female knight had gone, since she was ordered to go back to the castle I figured I would follow her there. I also began thinking of what to do about my clothing, which made me stand out if everyone was wearing robes and cloaks, with thick linen shirts.
I continued walking and eventually saw the large drawbridge entrance in the distance. The walls seemed to block out the sky and horizon past it, now that I was closer.
I began to look around from the bushes near the gate, and saw that there were a bunch of caravans trying to get into the city. They were lined up and going through a toll paying process, to which I quietly approached the carts towards the rear.
As I approached the first one I saw, I noticed an old man driving the cart, with a young woman seated in the back.
"Um, hello sir?"
The man turned to look at me from the coach's seat.
"What can I do for ya little guy?"
I was annoyed by him calling me 'little guy', but I simply moved on.
"Is there any chance you can... help me get into the castle? I don't have any money..."
I said, while turning my pockets inside out, and looking down in embarrassment. I hadn't gotten a good look at myself, but my clothes were a little tattered and looked worn because they were wet.
"You're trying to sneak into the city? You some sort of criminal?" The old man said in a hushed tone.
"What? No! I left my village because of bandits, and I know that the city won't let me in even if that's the case. I could work for you to pay you back, I'm a hard worker and I am diligent." I tried up-selling myself.
The truth was I had never worked a day in my life, and to call myself diligent? I mean I had spent years of my life dedicated to video games so you could say I am a little diligent...
Okay, fine, I had no redeemable qualities, but I was serious that I would work until I pay him back. I at least kept my promises and repaid favors.
The old man looked at me, noting my thin figure.
'This kid hasn't worked a fucking day in his life, who is he trying to fool with that build? But... he looks the same age as Myra... Sigh.'
"Okay kid, climb in the back, I will claim you as a worker of mine. Don't touch anything though!" The man said, point his thumb towards the back of the cart.
"Thank you!" I hurriedly climbed into the back, where I saw the girl from earlier. She had long brown hair that was put up into a simple pony tail, but her eyes were a deep blue that pulled your attention into it.
'She's really beautiful... God's what am I thinking?! Her and her grandfather just saved me. I can't repay his kindness with thievery.'
As I was battling impure thoughts, our cart arrived at the front of the queue.
"What are you bringing in?"
"Vegetables, sir."
"Alright. How many people?"
"Three, sir."
"Right. That'll be... 1 silver and 30 copper."
The old man didn't look too happy, but he paid nonetheless.
As we went past, the old man began mumbling to himself.
"This is highway robbery! One whole silver to transport my goods into the city just to sell and only make a little more than four silver! I can't live off this shit!"
"The whole city is corrupt. Listen here boy- wait, what's youe name by the way?"
"Artemis, sir!"
"Ain't that a girls name..."
